As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

So, we've been thinking that it would be better to do a land and sea to "test the waters" since none of us has ever taken a cruise?! I don't want any of the kids (or mom and dad for that matter) to become so sea sick they can't enjoy it!
Wondering about your thoughts on this matter and do you have a preference 3 days land and 4 days at sea vs 4 day land and 3 days at sea?
We did two 3-night cruises (one was our son's first cruise, and a few years later our daughter's first cruise) for exactly that reason -- we didn't want to be stuck all week if someone couldn't handle the motion. When we did our first 7-night cruise, we were amazed at how much more relaxing it was when we didn't have to pack just two days after we unpacked. So I can definitely see both sides here.
I think a 4-night cruise would be preferable to a 3-night, but you really would be rushed trying to see the bulk of the parks in 3 days. (Of course, if you book separately, you could do 4 nights on land and 4 nights at sea, if you have enough vacation time). The deciding factor in our doing the 3-night cruises was the schedule -- it worked out best for us to return home on Sunday night.
Really, I don't think you can go wrong with any of these options!
We personally prefer 7 night over shorter cruises. And we don't particularly care for Nassau specifically. Very few people really get sick, unless the weather is so c*** that the crew is carrying bags "just in case". I would check out meclizine (Bonine, only cheaper) to see how it affects you. Very few people have any problems with it. Mythbusters did a test last year and found that ginger was especially good. We usually have a couple of ginger snaps twice a day. When we go out on a dive boat, we'll take Bonine and a ginger capsule. Most people who take a short cruise say "why didn't we do something longer?" Of course, if you just have to visit the parks, that may be your limit.
I would also recommend looking at booking the two parts separately versus the price of a package. One advantage is that you can select the resort, including going with a Value if you want. They aren't available in the Land/Sea packages.

We tested the water too on our cruise and did the three night cruise and it worked perfectly for us. Our logic was that the three night cruise is at sea from Thursday to Sunday, meaning we could spend time at the parks on mainly weekdays, when they're usually quieter. It worked great for us.

I agree with the above quote, we are doing our first DCL cruise in September, 2009(4 day on Wonder), the week before we are staying at Disney. We are hoping they will offer free dining again, or 40% off promtions, so it makes it even more economical. My travel agent said she is doing the same thing this year, she is booking it seperate, because financially that is the better deal.
We are booked on the 4 night land/3 night sea in September 2009 for your exact reason. We have never cruised before, and if we get sick/bored/hate it for any reason, it's only 3 nights. We are also doing the 4 nights before the cruise and an additional 4 nights after the cruise. We already know we love the parks!

I would suggest a 4 night because you get a sea day and that is what you want to try. Can you deal with being up and moving during the day while the ship is moving? If you do a three day you don't have any "at sea" days.
Also agree...book the two parts on your own vice the package
If you can do it, book them seperately and try to do a at least a 4 day. You really only are getting one full day on the cruise if do a 3 day. We prefer no less than a 7 day cruise and find ourselves not wanting to get off the ship. I would do the land part first so you have the relaxing part of your vacation at the tail end. I think we are going to do 3 or 4 days at WDW next trip and follow it with the 7 day.
We are doing the 4 land 3 sea in July for the same reason (and DW promised to take her brother on a cruise and to WDW, someday). I'll let you know how it goes!
Our first cruise was the 3 night to see if we'd like it. we loved it, but really wanted more. it felt like we'd just gotten there when we had to pack up again. 2nd cruise was a 4 night because we got a killer deal. loved it, especially having the at sea day to relax. But again, we wanted more. So from now on we'll stick with 7 nights. if you're doing both land and sea, like most have said, book them separately and do the land part first.
