Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Another roller coaster question

I'm basically a big chicken (can you hear me clucking?) But, I really am trying to takes steps (albeit baby steps) outside my comfort coop ..er..zone. Last summer I took the plunge and road Goofy's Barnstormer.....(giving you time to catch your breath from laughing at me)......yes - I am proud to say that I road the barnstormer and survived to consider moving on up...not to the east side but to the mountainside. The Big Thunder Mountain side to be specific. I want to know if I can really handle this or if I need to call 911 (bring clean undies and the shock paddles please) in advance of my riding it. How does it compare to Goofy's BS? Is it similar in speed and style (no big drops please?) I'm sure some of you coaster folks can enlighten me.
Thanks
Kat

Re: Another roller coaster question

Kat, I can do them all except I don't like Space MT. I am not a ride person of the coaster kind but Big Thunder Mt. is fun! If you can handle the barnstormer you can handle that! I don't like Space Mt. because to me it is a bit rough.

Now you have to try RnR!!! I have such a great fear of these rides that I never would ever get on them.... actually RnR is the first one of this type of coaster I have ever been on. VERY SMOOTH just have to keep your head back. The first time I rode this was with my DH and I kept my eyes shut the whole time and also did however long the ride is of praying! I lived to ride it again but this time with my eyes open.

Now if I, one who can't even ride the carousel without getting sick can ride Big thunder Mt, Splash Mt, RnR & ToT, YOU CAN TOO!

Hey, you only live life once! Go for it! I did and had a great time!

This is from one cluck cluck to another cluck cluck!

HAPPY PLANNING! &

Re: Another roller coaster question

Hi AuntKat.... Big Thunder Mt is a longer ride & the drops are not very big. But the ride is rougher than BS. You do some quick turns. Over all its an easy ride to take & would be the next step in getting past a fear of Roller Coasters.
My fearful 9 yr old Nephew loved it. His 8 yr old brother would not go on ( learned at DIsney he has a fear of HEights) This year the youngest( he will be 8) & bravest goes. I plan to start him off with Splash Mt, Then Thunder Mt., if he really likes them then we will go on Space Mt. If he really like that then we will go on RnR Coaster. But I would suggest ride Barnstormer again, then try Thunder Mt. to get you ready for it. DO you like Splash MT.

Re: Another roller coaster question

Yup, Big Thunder is definitely the next step, and being a guy who doesn't like coasters I can tell you that you should be ready. Big Thunder is of course bigger, faster and rougher than Barnstormer, but there are really no drops to speak of on Big Thunder (it is a lot like Barnstormer in that respect). If you are prepared to just hold on a little tighter, you'll be fine.

Even though I am not a coaster person I always enjoy both Big Thunder and Barnstormer, they are perfect for "my speed". Space Mt would be the next step after that, but it does introduce some medium drops and is a little rougher than Big Thunder. Personally I don't like Space Mt., it give me a headache and I don't like the drops (my fear of heights).

Hope this helps...

Re: Another roller coaster question

I was absolutely TERRIFIED of roller coasters until I was 17 y.o. I then went to a local amusement park with my friends who pretty much had to force this big chicken to go on the rides. Know what?! Once I actually did ride the rides, I LOVED them! Now, I ride any coaster, any ride -- you name it, I ride it!
I think you will do fine on BTMRR. This is such a well-themed, spectactular ride. It really is not much "faster" or any more "wild" than the Barnstormer. It is, however, a longer ride. The Barnstormer barely lasts 30 seconds!
I think you will have an absolute blast on the rides. After BTMRR, comes SM... then RNR... then TOT! Woo-Hoo! Soon you will be a Coaster-Ridin' Maniac!

Re: Another roller coaster question

I am definetly not a coaster person, but BTMRR is one of my all time favorites. It may take a few minutes for me to get my "legs " back afterwards but I really enjoy the ride. GO FOR IT!!!

Re: Another roller coaster question

AuntKat, thank you for making me laugh with you!

I think Big Thunder would be fine for you. It is a longer and a little faster version of Barnstormer. Just don't ride it in the rain - it can be painful.

Re: Another roller coaster question

Big Thunder may be the "wildest ride in the wilderness", but the ride it has always most reminded me of in terms of movement is the kiddie coaster I used to ride when I was small. Actually, I think the Barnstormer might be a bit hairier as a coaster (albeit shorter). Big Thunder has no big drops (although be warned: the ride is designed to fool you into thinking it has them--it may look like you're about to rocket down a giant drop, but don't worry, it never materializes). The movement on BT tends to be more of a side-to-side kind of motion, and the train alternately slows and speeds up, so you have time to catch your breath between rough spots.

I think you should try it...and if you live through that and want to go to the next level, consider Splash Mtn. (Obviously, I like this one best!) The drop is HUGE, but the rest of the ride is worth the 2 seconds you spend shooting into the briar patch. My brother (Kag) is not a coaster person and hates thrill rides, but he rides Splash anyway and gets into the crash position when we go down the hill...

Good luck!

Re: Another roller coaster question

I love the Barnstormer because it goes so fast that I can't get sick! The drops don't bother me at all but the turns on Big THunder Mountain do me in every time. I even tried it with dramamine to no avail. Sigh.
