Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Tweens basket ideas

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but do you have any basket ideas for tweens? We went on the Fantasy in September and my DH made awesome homemade treasure chests with gold dollar coins and gems and things. We are going to WDW this fall and I am at a loss at what to put in there baskets. Last time I made WDW baskets it was 3 years ago. I have a 11 y/o son and 10 y/o daughter.
Thank you so much!!!

My kids are 13 and 11. They still like those glow bracelets. Michael's used to sell a tube full of different colors. Disney gift cards are always popular with my two. Small Lego sets to use during down time in the room. A pre -loaded arcade card from the resort arcade is another idea, if you you have some free time at the resort. My dd(11) still loves small stuffed animals. ( Those Tsum Tsum Disney characters are popular now.) Snacks!

I guess it would depend on what your kids like. I have 2 girls ages 13&14 and they do not like anything the same. My oldest likes Ninjago legos and art stuff and my youngest is a girly girl. At this age it is better just to give them a gift card and let them pick out what they want. I keep thinking about it and got nothing. Just let them pick out their own stuff.

You could put a Disney t-shirt in the basket. Maybe a new book if they like to read.

Really depends what they like to do ... and what they already have.

For example ... do they have their own cameras, yet? You could get them each a "starter" camera, an inexpensive one meant for kids around their age. Amazon lists hundreds of cameras $25 and under ... some of them as low as twelve or thirteen dollars. One $13 example here. Or, if you don't mind buying used cameras, you can get some pretty good bargains, like this Nikon Coolpix 4600 (for $10). Either one would be pretty cool, I should think, to a 10- or 11-year old, provided they don't already have digital cameras of their own. Add in some smaller memory cards (8GB should do fine), maybe cases to keep them in, and ... maybe $25 to $30 total, per kid, for a basic "starter kit" for taking their very own vacation photos.

...

Maybe a card for the resort arcade would go over well?

If you haven't done the PP Disney Scavenger Hunt before, that might be a fun book to put in one or both baskets. And, speaking of scavenger hunts ... you could make your own, for them to use those cameras on, if you go with that idea!

So now we are driving down from LI,NY and we are taking the auto train back (which we've done a few times before and had a great experience)
I know I asked for ideas for the baskets but any ideas for gifts or things to do on the long ride. The kids are 11girl & 12 boy. I have some ideas that I got from here but I'll take any ideas anyone has. I have always found this community to be so helpful. We will be traveling mostly at night so I hope they will sleep but I wanted to have some small gifts on hand for them.
Thank you!!!!

My kids are 11 & 14 and we drive. They still love their character blankets and they come in handy both in the car and at the hotel.

If the family has an iPad or a Tablet, and the kids both like similar boardgames (or dice-games like Yahtzee), that's always an option. There are many that can be done as a "pass-and-play" thing, so a pair of tweens sitting next to each other could easily play one of them. Some games I myself particularly enjoy, to compare to their tastes/interests (and attention span):
  • Ticket to Ride (Pocket Edition) - has expansions to buy; Trains / Railroad theme
  • Suburbia; City-planning theme
  • Carcasonne; Medieval theme
  • Eclipse; Space / aliens theme
  • Galaxy Trucker; Space theme
  • Lords of Waterdeep - has expansions to buy; fantasy medieval theme (Dungeons & Dragons, specifically)

Bonus, for night-travel: each and every one of those can be played by ONE person (with computer opponents), and none of them require any sund, not even through headphones .... so if only ONE of the kids is awake and bored, they're still an option.

Never took that long a ride when my kids were young but we often played travel games in the car. I would do a search and see what non electronic games are available-I found a magnetic version of the old licence plate game.

Also puzzles or brain teasers, word games books and perhaps even an adult coloring book and colored pencils.

Games

I would suggest looking on Pinterest I found several car/line games including a vertion of would you rather with Disney questions. Also some Disney playing cards always come in handy. How about some headlamps for night reading/game playing. Disney ears are always nice, t-shirts, ponchos for rain days. We did some safari hats and painted there favorite characters on them. Disney temp tats , if they don't want bibbidy bobbidy boo. There's the pirate theamed place(can't remember the name) but you get dressed like a pirate or mere maid even adults can get done up there! Don't forget you can always stop in the Main Street barber shop they will pixi dust your hair for free. Small Kleenex packs for purse or pocket and wipes for a quick wash after a snack come in handy. A good idea is give them each a fanny pack take boxes of snacks they can pack what they want. And carry them there selves that way a snack is always there for them! Enjoy!
