Questions about the Septeber Value Package? Hurry! - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Questions about the Septeber Value Package? Hurry!
I think I have encouraged (coerced? ) a friend to go with me in September to take advantage of the Package WDW is offering from late August through September, which includes 5 nights/6 days at a Value resort and the dining plan. YAY! i MIGHT BE GOING TO WDW!!! But I have some questions:
We'd share a room, but we're each paying our own way. Can we spiit the reservation and each put it on our own credit cards?
I know you can use your room key to charge expenses back to your room throughout the parks, can 2 people sharing the same room have different accounts linked to the same room key?
How much is the deposit, and when is it due? The rest is due 45 days out, right?
Can you upgrade the tickets included in the package to park hoppers?
Sorry to ask so many questions at once, but I need help a.s.a.p.! We've got to call by Wednesday to make the ressies before I leave next weekend for NYC!
Re: Questions about the Septeber Value Package? Hurry!
I hope you can go! Cheryl answered most of your ?'s. The only other thing to add is when I went for a business trip and shared a room with a co-worker, we could only use one credit card on the room passes. They give you an itemized bill at the end that you can split or your friend can use her own card in the parks for things other than food (since you'll have the dining pkg.) As you pay for the room however, you can put those on two different credit cards. I hope this helps! Have a good trip!
Re: Questions about the Septeber Value Package? Hurry!
as far as splitting the cost of the package, this should be doable. i believe anytime you make a payment (and you can make as many as you need), you can use any credit card you wish.
i think the deposit may be for DTC specifically. payment and cancellation details may vary if you book through an alternate TA
Re: Questions about the Septeber Value Package? Hurry!
Hey Lisa! Yes you cn each put the $100 deposit on 2 seperate cards and each make payments. As far as the charging priveledges last time I checked you can not have 2 seperate accounts there. And it does have to be booked by June 4 for free dining. I hope this helps.
Re: Questions about the Septeber Value Package? Hurry!
If you know about how much you want to spend on "stuff" maybe one of you could add your credit card to the room for charging and the other could pay more of the room on their card) You would maybe end up owing one or the other at the end but it would make it so you could use just charge cards (like if you think you will spend $300 in charges over the week you pay an extra $300 on the room on your card then she "owes" you $300 that you can use on her card that has charging allowed I suppose thgis would only work if you are really good friends and have similar intrest rates?

Sheana and I shared a room when we went on our Girls Trip! I was in Houston for a weekend so we called and made the ressies. The deposit was $200 and they let us split it all. I put down a $100 on my card and she did the same. Then we took the remaining balance and split it down the middle. We had to have the remaining balance paid in full 45 days out.
I don't know about room charges and how that works. I took cash and my debt card and she did the same. We didn't use a card so we could have spending privelages.
I don't see you running into a problem with upgrading the tickets to hopper. They are usually very accomodating in situations like that!
Re: Questions about the Septeber Value Package? Hurry!
guys! I knew I could count on my Passporter friends to know the answers I needed! My friend Kelly and I are getting together on Tuesday to go over our plans and make some decisions. I told her I'd do all the planning and that all she'd have to do is come along, pay her own way, and have fun. I will probably buy her a Passporter too, so she can do some research. Am I a great friend, or what?! Now, we just have to decide when exactly we're going and which value resort to stay at. I'll post about that over in Staying in Style.
Re: Questions about the Septeber Value Package? Hurry!
hey Lisa - Just wanted to let you know that although you have to purchase the same ticket from WDTC for the package deal - once you get there, you can upgrade any of the tickets that you need to.
In December - we had purchased one day tickets so that we could use the dining plan. Sarah still had plenty of old kid days left on her park hoppers - so she didn't need more days - but I did. So - I went to the MGM Guest Services window, and upgraded only mine to a park hopper multi day ticket.
Re: Questions about the Septeber Value Package? Hurry!
I did this with a friend last year. She paid for part of the room cost on her credit card and I paid for part of it on mine. You cannot use two credit cards for charging back to the room, so one of you can use their cc for charging priveledges and the other will have to use their credit card directly for purchase or cash to buy things on the vacation.

Lisa, I just wanted to mention that you can get the free dining with less days. Before I booked my package, I went over to DIS boards (shhh) and read about people who were booking 3 night stays. I'm not sure if that's the lowest you can do or if that's just the lowest anyone did. I hope that makes sense.
Re: Questions about the Septeber Value Package? Hurry!
you do not have to have charging privileges attached to your room key. what you could do is have one room key have charging privileges and the other card does not. whoever has the card that can not charge can just use her own credit card, easy as that.
YEs you can upgrade to park hoppers, just call and let them know of the change.

Re: Questions about the Septeber Value Package? Hurry!
once again for everyone's help! We have made our ressies and are officially going to WDW from Sept. 19-24, staying at Pop Century.
We were able to split the deposit on two seperate credit cards, and the remainder is due in August. I'm so excited! And I found out Kelly has NEVER been, so this will be so fun, showing her the WDW magic. Now I have to start planning in earnest, figuring out which days to go to which parks, etc. We're both Pooh fans, so I definitely want to dine at Crystal Palace one evening, and probably the Fantasmic Dinner Package one night. So much fun; poor Kelly has NO idea what she's in for!
