As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Child\'s age range to change
I just received my All Ears Newsletter and it says that effective July 1st, the age range for a child will change from ages 3-11 to ages 3-9 for table service, buffet, and dinner shows. Bummer. My 11 year old does not eat as much as an adult when we go to buffets. I guess I will be re-thinking some of those ADR's that was going to make.

Re: Child\'s age range to change
My question, I know the new policy goes into effect next month, but I made all my ARs at the 90-day mark before the change was announced. Will Carly be charged full price at CRT, CM, CP, and the Fantasmic dinner package? I know she's okay for Hoop, because I paid for it in advance.

Re: Child\'s age range to change
Is Disney trying to push people to go off property to eat? I can not see paying adult prices for my 10yo to eat chicken strips and fries. I think it is bad enough that at 10 you have to pay adult prices for park tickets, but now food. Pretty soon we won't be able to afford to go to Disney anymore.

Re: Child\'s age range to change
I think they should offer a junior price for ages 10-15.

I agree. I am going to WDW 2 weeks after my dd turned 10 and although she is a good eater I still shouldn't have to pay adult prices for her to eat mac and cheese and chicken fingers. My TA said if I made the ADR before it takes effect I wouldn't have to pay the higher price but she is looking into it for me because when I made the ADR and said 1 adult and 1 child they asked the childs age and I believe I said she would be 10 by then (it didn't matter at the time because the ages were 3-11). I hope I don't get hit for the higher cost at Beirgarden, LTT and Boma.

Re: Child\'s age range to change
I don't think it's right to charge a child who is over 8, adult prices. Most kids won't eat that much, although I am sure there are a few who could outeat any adult!!!

Re: Child\'s age range to change
I think you will get charged the price the day you eat since with ADR's unless it's the pay in full kind, it's just putting you 'on the waiting list' basically. Since there is no penalty for not showing up, etc...
I don't know if the hosts even know when you made the ADR's (90 days out or 2 weeks before you arrive??).

I can't say I'm surprised, as the park tickets are now reflect that, but I am disappointed.

That's a good idea. You should write and suggest that to Disney.

Re: Child\'s age range to change
I do not like this new policy. My DD is 10. I am scheduled for 'Ohana for July 1 (the day the new program starts ) and its a $14 increase for her!!
On our last trip, we stopped doing the buffets and set price meals because my older DD turned 13. I just couldn't see paying the adult price for her because she eats next to nothing. Her and my younger DD could share a kids meal and had a chicken strip left over. Especially if there was a dinner roll or bread involved at the meal because my younger DD could eat a roll and be full.
On this trip, since we are only doing 1 day at Disney post cruise, I decided to splurge and go to 'Ohana. We have Disney Visa Reward dollars so I felt like it was kind of "free" so it would be worth it. But now, this meal will cost us $130!!! I am not sure it is worth it. I am so sad.
Oh well, I guess next trip (hopefully next year) it will be all order off the menu prices again and we will continue to share. It's not so much the money (although some of these places are ridiculous prices for a 10 y.o.) but the amount of food. There is NO WAY my kids can eat an adult portion. Heck, I can't even eat an adult portion. That's why we share.
I just don't understand how they think people will be willing to pay $24.99 for a 10 y.o. to eat dinner??? I would be more than happy to pay junior prices.

Re: Child\'s age range to change
This is getting ridiculous. My 11 yo DD weighs about 70 pounds soking wet! She stil wears a size 10 pants! There's no way she could eat an adult meal at Disney. Their portions are huge! The only thing this will change is now she & I will share at Table Serice meals & they will lose the $ for her meal altogether. Looks like the end of Character meals though. Maybe just limited to one per trip. I can eat at a sit-down restaurant at home, order 4 dishes (2 kids, 2 adult) salads (for all of us) drinks, (wine for adults) and dessert and coffee and not spend close to what it will cost for us to eat one character meal! (2 adults, 1 8yo & 1 11 yo)
It's also irritating that they use the "junior" terminolgy in relation to packages i.e. the HCOE commercial states a family of 4 can go to WDW for under $1500....the family consisting of 2 adults, 1 child & 1 JUNIOR. But there are no "junior" passes & no "junior" dining...so what's the junior for then? ARGH! I'm really getting irritated with this all. How on earth do they think a kid is going to eat $25 worth of food? Does this mean at a regular sit down they would refuse to let her order off the kids menu & force her to order an adult meal? Much of that menu she wouldn't even eat.
Looks like DH is going to soon get his wish of a break from Disney. At least I'm on the meal plan (free) in August!!

I was wondering the same thing. My 10 year old DS is a very picky eater & definately could not finish an adult portion anyway. They will also make a mint off of him on a buffet.

Re: Child\'s age range to change
So what would be the best way to talk to Disney about this, email or phone call. I guess if enough people speak up, maybe it might help changing the policy. There is no way my son will eat some of the things on an adult menu. Already irrated about this and we are not even going this year.
