As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Bill and Jan\'s Mousefest Adventure!!!!! THREAD 2 Closed
[b] This is the second thread of this trip report. If you’re just starting, you need to start
here
Day 3, 11/28/2005 EPCOT
Late night last night=sleep in for someone this morning… Makes sense, right???
Well, I’m up at my usual butt-crack of dawn so I organize pics, post a “semi-live” update and get ready for the day, run and get coffees and danishes for breakfast…
Around 10:30 we head for EPCOT…
My one rant for this trip
Okay, I’ve been to WDW at least once a year since 1999 and more like twice a year for the past 3 years. I’ve always carried a pocket knife clipped to my right front pocket. The blade on this knife is 3.5 inches long. The “common sense” rule is that any knife with a blade over 4” is acceptable.
We get to EPCOT and I go through the bag check in a line. As I exit this line and am grabbing for my pass to go to the entry gate, I get called over by a security guard a couple of lines over. He asks to see my knife. I ask him to step over out of the way of those entering the park, he won’t. I show him the knife and he states, “that’s not legal here, you’ll have to leave it.” Excuse ME!!! The blade is under 4 inches… “anything over 3 inches is not allowed in the parks.”
Now, I guess I should tell you that this guard is Hispanic with one of the thickest accents I’ve heard in years. His American isn’t too great. Even though I grew up in that environment, I’m having just a little bit of a problem understanding him.
So I ask him, where does it say that anywhere. I’ve checked and have seen no guidelines, as such, other than to not bring guns, bombs, hand grenades, etc… “Do you want to talk to a supervisor?” Yep, bring one on. I’m not real thrilled with his approach, delivery, or manner about this… The cop in me is saying there is a better way to handle this and as a money paying citizen, I’m not real happy…
So the supervisor shows up, talks to him for a minute to see what the problem is (like she should) then talks to me. First thing out of her mouth is “the knife’s not legal in the park.” Okay, this knife is legal in the State of Florida so same question, where is that posted so people know? “It’s private property, we don’t have to post anything, but I’m sure it’s somewhere.” Okay, I’m not going to even go into the legal or ethical issue of “publically accessible private property” with these two.
Okay, I’ve been carrying this knife for the past 3 or 4 years and I’ve never been stopped before at any of the parks, and I’ve been through all these gates hundreds of times, why now? “If we see it, we have to do something about it.” So, if I’d had this knife inside my pocket, we wouldn’t be here? “Yes, if we don’t see it, we can’t do anything about it” So, being a cop, if I have my ankle gun on and no one sees it, I can carry it in the park, or even worse, if I’m a bad guy and have a gun on my ankle and no one sees it, it’s okay. “Well, it’s not okay, but we hope people aren’t doing that.” Needless to say, I was not a happy camper at this point… I left my knife with them in a plastic bag to be retrieved when we left the park.
RANT OVER
Through the gates, go to my happy place, life is good before I hit the globe. I refuse to let them ruin my day!!!
The parks weren’t too bad, so far…
We stopped by Pin Central and get a few pins and head for Mouse Gear to look around.
This is where we found the evil looking Donald (maybe they took his knife too )
After Mouse Gear, it was lunch time. Cantina, here we come… Jan had a salad, I had the combination and we both had Churro’s. While sitting there, I took a picture or two
Other countries we would visit today…
Some of the locals
Trying to mooch some food from us (we DO NOT feed them, it’s not good for them…)
Friendship’s were running…
We finish lunch (still no food for the locals. How can we deny those cute little birds, easy!!! We’ve raised children and big brown-eyed dogs )
They’ve changed the display inside the Norway Stave Church, they have “famous” Vikings displayed in there now…
Erik the Red (950-1003)
Rognvald (Late 800’s-ca. 926)
Olaf II, King, Patron Saint of Norway (ca 995-1030)
From here we wandered through China and in that direction… and I took a few more pictures
We stopped here and got a few things…
NEXT: Germany and the rest of the world…

Re: Bill and Jan\'s Mousefest Adventure!!!!! Day-3 Part-1 Updated 12/18 THREAD 2
So....let me get this straight....if they can't see it, it's OK to bring into the park? Interesting...and it does not make me feel any safer...
Great pictures, as always! We didn't get to see many of the countries this trip, including Norway, so that will have to be on the list for March!

Sorry about the knife thing!
Great pictures! The Evil Donald really freaked me out, as it did in your live update. Those Disney Cuties characters are not my faves.

Re: Bill and Jan\'s Mousefest Adventure!!!!! Day-3 Part-1 Updated 12/18 THREAD 2
Andy and Mark were fussing at breakfast our last morning about how stupid the bag check line was. I mean, they only look in your bag, they don't check anything on your body. Mark then told Andy about your knife experience and he couldn't believe that. It's like Andy said, if they're just glancing in your bag then they're only really checking for a bomb. Which is stupid, cause you could do just as much damage with, like you said, a gun on your ankle that they can't see.
I hope you told them you were a cop!

That knife policy is just beyond belief! Sadly we also encountered some terrible security guards and the CM's on the gates weren't much better. I'm glad you didn't let it ruin your day.

I did.
And if I was gonna be carrying a bomb in, I sure wouldn't be doing it in my bag
As for the knife, I could do more damage to someone using the plastic utensils they provide to eat with, they leave a nasty cut that almost always get a serious infection...
It's just a dog-and-pony show folks. Like locks on the doors to your house, they keep the honest people honest, the bad guys are going to do what they want anyway...
On a brighter side, it was a great day and I'll post more of that later

Great update Bill!! The photos are gorgeous as usual!! That whole knife incident is ridiculous!! So strap a knife around yourself under you shirt, and that's ok, as long as they don't see it?? Makes no sense! Can't wait to read more!!

Sorry about the knife thing! Their little "policy" about not seeing it sounds pretty dumb to me!!!
I took the SAME photo of evil Donald at one of the shops at MGM!!!
More please!

Sorry to hear about your knife. It reminds me of my son's experience with the airport security---they took his finger nail clippers...they were a weapon they said..some weapon they wouldn't even cut fingernails very well. The security at Disney is more for show and for real.

Yeah, Disney security is pretty lame. Hope your experience with it didn't put much of a damper on your day.
That picture of evil Donald just cracks me up!!
Looking forward to more!!!

Great update. Can't wait for more. The knife policy is a little scary, not that the bag check ever made me feel any safer anyway.
