As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

DD and I are on GF diets. we'll be headed to WDW soon, and I'd love to hear your experiences with eating GF at WDW. Which restaurants were exceptional? Did you have any difficulties? What were some of the choices you had? Thank you!!

We are not GF eaters, but a friend is. He eats at WDW frequently as he lives in FL, and normally has no trouble finding something good to eat. Note your special need on any ADRs you make, and remind your server when you are seated. Someone may come out to talk with you, and in the case of buffets, may actually walk you along the buffet to show you which dishes should be suitable. You can also talk with someone from the WDW dietary department on the phone in advance of your trip. At CS places, they should have a notebook listing the ingredients, and/or someone who can come out and talk with you about your choices.
Last trip, we ate with our buddy at Landscape of Flavors (Art of Animation). He enjoyed a bacon cheeseburger on a special GF bun, which the chef personally brought out to him. For dessert, we found an assorment of Babycakes vegan/GF mini-desserts in the baked goods area. The bakery itself is at DTD, inside the Pollo Campero chicken place.
I have Celiac disease, so have to be totally GF (and avoid any form of cross-contamination.)
I have to say, Disney is the ONE place on Earth where I don't worry about anything because the chefs and the restaurant staff take extremely god care of their customers with special nutritional needs.
Mark the GF requirement on all of your dining reservations, mention it when you check in to table service restaurants or to the CM at the order stand of all counter service places. This will trigger a chef or manager to come discuss your needs.
They will handle it from there and take very good care of you.

Just realize that many restaurants in Epcot and all in AK are not Disney-owned, but still do provide GF options. By either calling 407-824-5967 or emailing to the address above, WDW will send you an email full of information for GF dining
My daughter is a celiac and eating at Disney was a vacation in itself for her! It was so relaxing to not have to worth about her getting sick while we were there!

The chef who'll consult with you will be specific and helpful.
I was soooooo tired of flourless chocolate cake or crème brulee, usually the only desserts that are g-f that I begged our server for something different our last dinner at WDW on our previous trip. He laughed and said he'd see what the chef might be able to do and came out to ask if fresh fruit would be agreeable. I said, "YES!" and got a soup plate piled with lovely fresh berries topped with a big glob of whipped cream. They were absolutely fantastic!
Yes, Disney will take very good care of anyone with special dietary needs. You'll even find some packaged g-f snack options in your resort's food court if you'll be on the DDP and wanting to use snack credits.
If you like upscale dining, I found the dinner rolls at Citrico's really tasty, almost as good as wheat-flour rolls in texture and flavor. The chefs there are artists at concocting creative g-f meals and often can suggest adaptations if something not g-f on the menu is especially appealing.
Really, any of the signature restaurants will give you memorable g-f meals, so prepare to enjoy!
You'll have a detailed consultation with a chef before ordering, so be sure to indicate any personal preferences, too. They're very accommodating about fixing something to suit you and will leave out things you dislike.
Do try to get to the Babycakes bakery in DTD. Babycakes makes FANTASTIC vegan g-f baked goods.

If you're going to make a dining reservation by phone, just remember to mention it to the Cast Member; there's a space for dietary concerns online. For Counter service, the chefs will come out and confer with you; some of the restaurants have a binder that you can peruse.
1. My counter g-f experiences:
MK: Hot dog buns at Cosmic Rays; hamburger buns (and a fantastic fixin's bar) as Pecos Bill's (Columbia House, while a good space for eating, is disappointing for g-f options).
EPCOT: Chicken nuggets at Electric Umbrella; Pulled-pork sandwich at the American pavilion in the World Showcase.
DHS: ABC Commissary has hamburger buns, cookies and brownies.
AK: Pizzafari (cheese or pepperoni).
2. My Table-service g-f experiences:
Saratoga Springs: Good g-f options.
Boardwalk: Flying Fish Cafe had phenomenal food, prepared as you wish!
Wilderness Lodge: Whispering Canyon has great cornbread and, for breakfast, Mickey Waffles (it's also a hoot at dinner time, lots of fun); The other table service place at WL (I forget its name) had a chocolate dessert to die for!
Many chefs will tell you to order whatever strikes your fancy, and they will prepare it as close to the menu description as possible. Of course, some items are just not g-f-able.
Happy Dining!
(Now, I can't wait for my June trip to WDW!)

I had to do Disney GF a little while back and let me tell you, I STILL miss the rolls. No joke, they had the BEST dinner rolls ever. I inhaled at least 6 or 7 EVERY meal. My favorite places to go GF were the signature dining restaurants, Narcosses, Cal Grill, Hollywood Brown Derby, and the Coral Reef are the top I would recommend but they are all great!
At the counter service, the chicken fingers are awesome! My boyfriend liked them better than the regular ones. Just remember it will take a little extra time for your GF so don't go up starving, and dont go during a super busy time. Try to go a little earlier and you will have a much better time.
Some of my favorites were the sandwich I got at Beaches and Cream (turkey and cheese on bread but they melted it for me on a safe grill), Teppan Edo (the chef prepared my meal with gf soy sauce), Cape May Cafe ( the chef took me around the buffet to show me what I could have and found me gf donuts, and mickey waffles) , and the chicken fingers. It was a JOY to eat every meal in WDW!

I'm so glad I found this thread. I'm new to gluten free and I've been worried about our upcoming trip. I've emailed Disney special diets and asked them to add it to our ADRs (wasn't gf when I made them) and made a list of everything people have said. Maybe gf isn't as terrifying as first thought.
