As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hi, gang. only 3 weeks to go! we're barely getting started on summer, so that seems to be coming too fast! anyway, here's what my rough idea is. I'd love your input on changes and whatnot, or places to stop and be sure to see...
Sat, June 28th, drive to Merrimack, NH for 2 nights - late afternoon shop
Sun, June 29th, Water Country, shop, and / or Canobie lake (did before, but we should have an after 5pm discount with NH discount coupon)
Mon, June 30th, LEGOLAND Boston, then possibly to Boston Garden for Earl of Sandwich
head to Warwick, RI for Homewood Suites...
Tuesday, Roger Williams Zoo
Wed, Mystic Aquarium with picnic at that caste place?
Thursday??? Water Wizz or make the trek to Lake Compounce???
Friday, July 4th - Children's Museum plus beach or whatever festivities??
Sat, drive home : (
the big question is whether to make the trek to Lake Compounce. I would like to hit at least one real theme park!
Bummer that you will be in Mystic while we are in Disney
If you are talking about Gilette Castle for picnic.....that is a good 30-40 minutes from the Aquarium. There are lots of great places to eat in Mystic!

Thanks - so do you mean it would be 30-40 mins out of our way or is it on our way to / from RI? What places do you rec for eating and exploring in the area? We are super healthy eaters! I'm guessing the aquarium won't take a full day?
Is lake com pounce way too far?
What about Jiminy Peak. I have to find a climbing / zip lining place for my hubby and 8 year old daughter.
PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.

Yes, Gillette Castle is about 30-40 west of Mystic.
If you like Lobster Rolls, the BEST place in Mystic is called Fords Lobsters. It looks like a hole in the wall type of place, BUT it is the BEST!!! And it's also BYOB! There is also a great sushi/Asian sit down restaurant right across the street from the Aquarium, Peking Tokyo.
Not sure about Jiminy Peak. I know there is a zip lining place in Middletown, again about 30 minutes from Mystic, but also close to Gilette Castle , I believe it is called Brownstone?

Remember Earl of Sandwich is on he Boston Common/Public Garden. To those of us old timers, the Boston Garden is where the Celtics/Bruins play. You don't want to end up in the wrong place and while they are not too far apart, traffic between them can be terrible.
Enjoy the outlets. Last time I was there I picked up sweaters at the Loft for DD and I for $1.88 each. I am abstaining for a few eeks though.
In Merrimack, the Disney store is priority 1 ! And yes, fortunately I do have it straight bt TD garden and public garden. We saw Disney on ice at TD in February.
We still could end up coming back into Boston on a different day.
There are 3 routes, each will take almost 2 hours from your hotel. Only you can decide if it is worth it. Interestingly, Lake Compounce is introducing on-site accomodations this summer -camping or cabins. Don't know how you could make that work with your current itinerary but here's the info. https://www.lakecompounce.com/bearcreek
Also want to add, if you do book an overnight with Lake Compounce, it looks like you can save on tickets -$9 each one day ticket. Or you can get two days for the price of one regular day ticket -$39.99.
I'm not sure Lake Compounce is worth the trip. I don't think of it as a "real" themepark, although maybe because we've been there many times and it's close to us. It's not all that big, probably the same as Canobie Lake. I tend to think of Six Flags as more of a theme park, if you want more thrill rides (there is one in Agawam MA). If you don't want all the thrill rides, then LC might be for you! They also have a waterpark at LC.
I don't think you want to come out to Jiminy Peak for climbing. That's in the Berkshires, and doesn't seem to be in the area of your touring. If you want an adventure park, I'd look at the Storrs Adventure Park near UCONN in the eastern part of CT. About The Adventure Park at Storrs | Storrs Adventure Park

Thank you. That's very helpful! I did look at six flags, but my gang don't go for thrill rides and admission is pretty steep. We did enjoy canobie two years ago for one day, but don't care if we go back. We will miss santasvillage village, but 6 summers in North Conway was enough!
Well Holly, is it a worthwhile park to visit? We usually are willing to drive up to two hours each way for a day trip.
While I've enjoyed my visits there, there aren't a ton of attractions that I, personally, will do. I also spend a good deal of time thinking, "Disney wouldn't do it like this" but that's a hazzard at any park. They are well known for Boulder Dash -a roller coaster that runs through the woods. I have not yet ridden it, so I can't comment on it. There is a raft ride similar to Kali with much less theming. I certain come off just as soaked!!! The best part of Lake Compounce, IMO, is the water park portion.

I agree that Jiminy Peak is too far from your touring. The Storrs Adventure Park is brand new and very close to me. I would estimate a little over an hour from your hotel in RI. Haven't been yet but have heard from others that they have really enjoyed it. Check Groupon before you go.....there have been offers on there periodically. And if you choose to go, MAKE SURE you get ice cream at the UCONN Dairy Bar on campus. Yum !
I haven't done a lot in Rhode Island, so not much help there. You could head to Newport and tour the Mansions. Or if you have a whole day, take the ferry to Block Island from Point Judith, rent bikes and tour the island for the day, and take the ferry back that night (leave the car at Point Judith).
