As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

who does NOT want to hear, read or see sneak peeks of a brand-new ride before I get to ride it? I want the whole experience to be new and a thrill when I get there, so I'm studiously avoiding everything except Disney's generic description of the new Pandora rides.
I did the same for Soarin' Around the World--no spoilers allowed!

I am that way too but I think a lot of folks who have claustrophobia issues and motion sickness would rather know everything there is to know about a thrill ride prior to committing to it. This ride sounds to good to pass up though, I even did Mission Space on opening day! And I loved Avatar!
I am with you for the most part GingerJ. I do want to experience it on my own, but when it comes to something that might affect my health or the way I react to a ride such as Mission Space than I do want to know others peoples reactions of the ride. I don't usually have issues with motion sickness so Flight of Passage most likely won't be an issue for me so my experience will be my own and that will be great. I can however understand those who do suffer with those issues needing reassurance from others before trying the ride themselves.

Anybody else doing this?
It depends on the type of ride. I have claustrophobia as well as motion issues so going in to a ride blind could potentially ruin the rest of my day. I had that happen with Body Wars -- felt ill the rest of the day (and we rode it in the morning....so basically my day was not good). I didn't really do any research on that ride before we went (this was back in 2001) and didn't really know what the ride was when we got on it. And it also happened Expedition Everest. I did do some research on that one -- but not enough. We watched them building this ride during 2 of our trips and I coudn't wait to go on it. I love roller coasters but I can't tolerate going backwards. I knew EE went backwards but everyone seemed to say that it was only for a "very short" amount of time. In my mind, that meant less than 3 seconds. I thought I'd be able to just close my eyes and tolerate those few seconds. Well, I don't know how long the backwards part really is, but I can tell you it felt like it was at least a minute long (I know it wasn't). I thought it would never end. I honestly thought I was going to be sick even though I hadn't had anything to eat or drink for about 2 hours. I spent the next 5 hours trying to not look at food. Apparently, all my friends who said the backwards part was short don't mind going backwards. For someone who hates going backwards, it really felt like forever.
I'm not concerned at all about the Na'vi River Journey, but I need to continue to keep an eye on reports about FOP as I could potentially have claustrophobia issues as well as motion issues on that one. I'd love to try it the next time we're there, but I'm not willing to ruin my day to do it. I've found that even when I do watch videos of a ride, it all still feels new to me when I actually ride it because I either don't pay enough attention to details or I simply forget them by the time we get there.
I don't really care either way. Although since I have severe osteoarthritis in both knees (going to have to have both replaced) a good preview of the ride vehicle or seating can help me decide if it's something I'll be able to do or not. I hate waiting in line and getting up to the ride vehicle only to have to take the so called chicken exit.
You're not the only one Ginger, but for me, inquiring minds want to know and I want to know as much as I possibly can. Not only for those in my family with health issues (I'm not happy with him at the moment so I'm not even mentioning his name) but also because if it's something I like the looks of online, it helps get me excited for any trip we may have coming up. I'm not into Avatar and unfortunately everything I'm reading and seeing about it does absolutely nothing for me. I was kind of hoping that wouldn't be the case - that Disney would come up with something to "wow" me into wanting to try these rides. I guess it's a good thing they didn't because from what I've seen of just the ride "vehicle" two of us won't be able to sit on it. One of us because he won't be able to get on it period and me because it will cause cramping and pain.

I don't watch videos but I have children who know what I can and cannot tolerate. So they go first and give me the run down. Seldom fails. Although my DD did convince me to do TOT. She told me I wouldn't like the drops but the rest of the ride would make up for it. She was son wrong.
Even though I do like to experience everything for myself, but I do like to read other peoples reviews of food and experiences on rides. I just get get enjoyment out of reading about anything Disney related so it is all good for me. The reviews usually don't sway me unless it is something that is a totally awful review of food.
I purposefully did not watch any videos for Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey ride for this very reason and I found it THRILLING because everything was a surprise that first time around and I really had no idea what to expect. Just the other day I said to DH "Don't watch any videos about the new Pandora rides" because I want it to be fresh and exciting just as I had experienced Forbidden Journey.
This is something I am considering regarding showing my DS4 many of the available ride videos or videos I took while there last. I want him to have his own first moments seeing these things and not just a replay of what he saw on TV. I am still up in the air but I am thinking about maybe just doing some short snippets and then perhaps those that might scare him to avoid those tense moments. I would love to hear how others have handled this - I just want those first Disney moments as seen through his eyes.
I understand your point, but I like to know what I'm getting into. I don't really like thrill rides, so I like to know if I'm going to get sick or hurt. I wish I had watched a video of Space Mountain before I tried it. It could have spared me a lot of pain.
I never want to see a preview of rides before I try them. I want to experience the thrill of the rides and make my judgement all on my own.
As for shows like "Happily Ever After" I have watched the live stream of that and it was amazing. I also know the experience will be even more amazing in person.
