Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Personalising your Passporter?

I'd love to see people's tips and tricks for personalising their PassPorter's. This is my first year having one. I've actually bought 2. One 2016 which I'm going through and marking our with post it tabs and highlighter tabs for my Mother-in-Law, and the other is a cheaper 2yo Deluxe version I picked up off eBay so I've got my own reference later after I give her her copy. I'm up to date with the changes and it was more important for her to have the current one (and I wanted a Deluxe to be able to pull the maps out of, and just because I love the idea of the Deluxe).

DH and I have booked a trip for her and I (unbeknownst to her) for her 75th birthday present. She's always wanted to go, the U.K. free dining deals were good, and I had a free British Airways companion voucher and enough Avios, so we're doing this, but it's going to be a short 5 night trip, so I want to give her as perfect a trip as I can in the short time that we have.

As part of the reveal we have planned a little game with several clues and gifts to go with them, and the last one will be the Passporter. I've used post it tabs to mark important pages (our resort, the main park pages, the pages with restaurants she might like), then with the see through sticky highlighter tabs I've marked the rides she might like in one colour, FP+ ones I'll be booking in another, QS she might like in one colour and ADR table service I'll be booking in another. My thought is I'm sure she will love it as their whole family are planners when it comes to holidays, but it can be so overwhelming with so much information. So I thought that if I broke it down this way she can have a look and research as much or as little as she likes before we go. Her birthday is early December, we're going the very end of Feb into March but we will give her the gift and tell her at the end of September so she has time to research and be part of the planning as much or as little as she wants. Our original plan was to not tell her until we got to the airport, but we decided that was unfair as part of the fun is in the planning and the anticipation. Then we were going to tell her on her birthday, but we are having trouble keeping it secret, and we want her to enjoy it, so we decided to compromise and tell her when they come for a visit in Sept. Then when we go down for her birthday she will have been reading and we can chat in depth about it.

Sorry I've babbled, but I'm so excited about this trip and there are so few places I can talk about it or people I can tell because we want this to be a complete surprise. The one thing we are leaving as a surprise till the airport is I had enough Avios to book our way there in Business Class! She will LOVE that!

Anyway, here's some pics with a sample of how I've marked it out for her. Please excuse the dark grainy iPad photos. I was too lazy to get up and turn on the overhead light. I would love to see pics of how you use it to plan or customise yours

I have the deluxe which is a binder style version. I order two refills every year so I can organize it how I like it. I have labeled tabs for each section & my sections in order are: Animal Kingdom, Animal Kingdom Dining, Epcot, Epcot Dining, Hollywood Studios, Hollywood Studios Dining, Magic Kingdom, Magic Kingdom Dining, Disney Springs, Disney Springs Dining, Resorts, Resorts Dining, General Dining, Miscellaneous & Index. I also happened to find a Minnie Mouse book cover a few years ago that I bought & put on the binder.

Oh cool. I like the idea of having the parks and park dining sections together.

I really like having organized that way. The only downside is that I have to order a second refill for less than a dozen pages & end up with almost an entire book plus some because of it. But it just makes it so much easier to figure out dining & find what I want that I do it. I do however keep the extra pages because every so often I end up wanting a piece of information that's in those pages I didn't include or is on a page that I'm not sure I included which means I end up looking at the extra pages. I might make an index of pages that I've included. I also have a resort index in the resorts section that tells me what pages each resort is on since the resorts aren't organized alphabetically but by park area I find it hard to find the resort I want without an index. Having a resort index at the front of the resorts section just makes so much easier to find the resort I want.

Thanks Ginger. I'm really looking forward to it. DH is really disappointed he's not coming too, but someone has to stay home and look after the dogs.

Everything's now done and planned that can be. Now it's just waiting to book ADR's, and then the day to let her in on the secret!! It's a few months yet before we tell her and we're already busting.
