As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

couples trip: is ANYWHERE in U.S. as great as Disney???
seriously, I just can't get excited about pretty much anywhere other than living from Disney trip to Disney trip. I mean yes, we like our summer road trips in New England and look forward to branching out to Hershey, PA this summer. but what can we get enthused about for a couples' getaway? we don't drink or gamble, so Las Vegas just doesn't hold any appeal. we had tentative plans to do a 4-day weekend in NYC in May, but when we realized the cost would be upwards of $3000 by the time we fly there, it just seemed like wasted Disney money.
I don't think I can talk DH into going to Disney for a bonus couples' trip, as all he can think about is having the kids with us. but what about these other Disney resort areas? does it really feel Disney-ish? I'm hard to please, I tell ya. just back from Boston and that just doesn't do it for me.
we've contemplated doing a cruise, but I feel like we'd just be wishing we were doing our first Disney cruise instead of another run or the mill. and there's no we'd do our first Disney cruise without the kids.
help! oh, and not ready to go all the way to west coast yet, since we'd be leaving the kids.

early November for somewhere reasonably warm. even late May for anywhere else. yes, we like doing things outdoors to a point. I exercise all the time at home, so I prefer to scale it down a bit on vacation, except for all the walking at Disney parks : ) if California weren't so darn far....
what about Hilton Head, SC in mid May? but we don't golf. still a nice romantic getaway? where would we fly into? looks super crazy cheap. would we get that Disney feeling????

Why not try Universal parks for a quick get-away? If you like coasters...you'll love the parks. They're certainly not Disney, but WWHP is really cool, Despicable me is cute, neat techno shows like Terminator, there's Men in Black...think Buzz'z Ranger spin on steroids. Blue Man Group was outstanding. City Walk has tons of restaurants to try. At least it would be something different to try.

I don't know how Disney it feels, but it's a great place to visit. (Haven't stayed in the DVC there.) We've owned a timeshare there for 15 years and have visited frequently since to 70s at all times of year. This year we go in May. So many activities and great places to eat on HHI. We really love riding bikes on the beach and the islands extensive paths.

I think it depends on your interests, my husband and I have had great get-aways to Chicago and Pittsburgh. We looked at Nerw York but did not like the cost, we have done Disney without the kids too and loved it.

I was thinking Biltmore Estate in the NC mountains is a great romantic place to visit. Historical house, vineyards, and outdoor activities galore. And the Inn there is wonderful. Great rooms and dining. Fly into Asheville.

No place is Disney except Disney. But there are things I love about Disney that I can find elsewhere. We are not drinkers or gamblers but we love Vegas. It is so much more than gambling/drinking. Relaxation? Just plop me at any beach resort. I don't go in the ocean to swim but I love watching it, reading, and just enjoying some moments of calm. Hilton Head/Charleston/Savannah are great. Mackinaw Island for some romance, Chicago for some culture. There are tons of great places for couples. The hard part is figuring out what kind of vacation you want! Lol.
hmmm, I'd say we're kind of theme park junkies. no interests in most museums, historical things. sad, but true! I was thinking today that the one place I've always wanted to go is Atlantis. not U.S, but that's ok. I'm thinking mid November? we're not big beach people, but for a couples trip we can handle a day or two.
If you want a beach that isn't atlantis we decided on Clearwater for our family beach vacation this year. I've read that Clearwater beaches rival Aruba's beaches and we loved the beaches there so that sort of clinches it for me. I'd rather do Disney but I gave in to my DBF (yet again) but DS is excited about the ocean. It isn't too costly, and you could drive to DTD or a disney resort if you wanted to have dinner but not go to a park (this is our plan!) And maybe hit a disney water park. There is plenty to do without the drive up to Disney, beaches, water sports, lounging on the beach planning your next Disney trip....just an idea

Late May is a great time to visit northern Michigan, Traverse City all the way up the shoreline to Mackinac Island. TC has great restaurants and shopping and the scenery is amazing, take a drive out to the Sleeping Bear sand dunes. While driving up the coast Charlevoix and Petoskey are great places to stop along the way. Mackinac Island is an experience not to be missed, it's like stepping back in time, literally.
For a November trip I would recommend the FL Keys. Fly into Miami and rent a car and drive the entire way out to Key West. It is a gorgeous drive and very peaceful and relaxing. If you want to try your hand at fishing a stop at Islamoorada is the best place to start for that. Marathon has a beautiful stop at the Bahia Honda State Park with views of the 7 mile bridge. Key West has so much charm as well as things to see and do. Hemingway House, the Southernmost point marker, and the nightly Sunset Festival in Mallory Square are not to be missed.
If you had more than a weekend, I would do the Grand Canyon. Too beautiful for words. I also fantasize about doing a train trip across Canada, going from Vancouver East. Also not exactly a weekend trip.
I love Montreal and Quebec City. Are you in once of the French Speaking Provinces?
We also vacationed in New Brunswick a few times, it's beautiful. We are nature lovers so my suggestions may not be the best for you.

We enjoy parks too. If Universal doesn't flip your switch, you might also want to consider Busch Gardens, Tampa. It's a Beautiful park with great coasters. Plenty of neat shops and dining in nearby Ybor, City and you could hit the viewing area too for the Manatees. They come in by the power plant where the waters are warm and cozy in November. Last spring we did a combo trip...3 days at Universal parks, then 2 at Busch Gardens. We had a blast!
