As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

What do I do now? I haven't flown since '95 and I'm nervous enough already without having to worry how my bags are going to get to our resort. I've called Disney a couple of times and all I get is a let's wait and see answer. Has this happened to you?

We just received tags for our trip on Tuesday. We fly out this coming Monday. I've been really busy with work and other things and had not actually noticed that we didn't have our luggage tags. I know these last minute glitches can be nerve racking but everything will work out. Enjoy the extra time you get by flying instead of driving and have a wonderful vacation.
Like others have mentioned, even if they don't arrive on time you can still use the DME. This happened to friends of ours and they were still able to locate their luggage using the baggage claim info. No worries they are awsome.
Hi everyone and thanks for your reassurance.I did call DME yesterday(thank you karen63)and gave my info to a very nice cm who easily found my ressie in the system but no knowledge of DME.He told me he would send out my packet and I should receive it within 7 days. Here's hoping. I'll let you know how this plays out.
Oh Susan....not only am I jealous you get to leave before we do (our trip starts on the 29th)....but you are going to be in Bay Lake Towers....OMG! We took the Vacation Club tour of it and all I can say is WOW! We are still on the fence about becoming DVC members....but if it was up to me I would move in permanently to the Bay Lake Towers....enjoy!
Please don't be disappointed or freaked out if you don't get your tags!! Go to your local hardware store and buy some yellow duct tape. Cut a piece about 12 inches long for each suitcase. In the middle, fold it in on itself the "long way" about 1/3 of the tape. Then put it through your luggage handle and tape either end to each other so that you make a "tag". Write DME in big black letters with a sharpie on each side.
It has happened to me several times. DME will tell you they are sending out the package, but it won't come. They need more than a 2 week turn around time to get your yellow tags printed!! I don't know why they don't just tell people this UP FRONT! They told me, after I called in complete hysterics when my tags didn't come- the first time it happened. I called at the three week mark when I hadn't received them yet and was reassured they would arrive. When they weren't there three days before, I called back and that's when they said they needed a minimum of two weeks for just the printing time!
I'm not telling you this to freak you out! Just take your check luggage tags to the DME desk and give them to the clerk. Having the yellow duct tape just helps them find your bags easier! Make sure you know what kind of luggage you have! (Sounds silly, but a lot of people say "oh, a big black one"!
Good Luck! Hope you don't need this helpful tip and you get your tags in time!

As I expected the seven days have passed. Made another call to DME who "checked" into it and said, they went to the printers last Wednesday and are apparently in the mail. Give it a couple of more days she said. We leave next Tuesday but I decided that I'm not going to worry about thanks to your advice. I'll let you know if they ever arrive.

I really would like to know if you get them! It would be nice to know if DME has the "bugs" worked out for when the tags don't get sent and they can actually get them out to people "last minute"!
We had not received our DME documents for our trip back in June, so I called DME exactly 2 weeks before our arrival date. DME said that my documents had been sent to the travel agency, but the agency had not received them. DME was able to reprint the documents and send them directly to me. The person I spoke with said that the documents would go to the printer that night. I can't remember exactly how long it took to get them after that phone call, but I did get them in time.
Hope you get yours soon! It's not the end of the world if you don't, but it does make the process easier if you have them.
Seeing this post I just realized I didn't get anything from them either and I leave next Thursday. I don't need tags as we are only going down for the weekend and doing carry on's but I need a booklet don't I?????
I am very happy that someone posted about this -- I have been wondering about this myself.
I booked our DME reservations about 2 weeks ago; our flight to Orlando isn't until December 2 (51 days away). Members of our group are flying to/from four different airports (all on the same reservation!), and certain people are flying in / out on different dates. So I was very concerned about getting all of the details right. Once I receive the tags and other information, I will need to mail it out to the others in our group, and so I will need some additional lead time (a week or less won't cut it!).
Does the fact that I provided my details early have any impact on whether I can expect the DME people to get our packet to me early? I remember hearing that they mail out the packet 42 days prior to your check-in date... Is this true? If so, they would be mailing my information out next Friday (10/21), and I should receive sometime that following week.
I know that it's not the end of the world if we don't receive the tags... But it would just be so much easier if it works the way it's supposed to, you know?
TIA!
Brad
