As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I recently had a bunch of tests run and discovered that my cholesterol is high! My husband and I discussed the results. He really needs to lose a few pounds and we've decided to make a conscious effort to improve our eating habits.
Yesterday we went grocery shopping at Whole Foods and our local produce stand. Our total came to $120 without any meat or household items! Seems like, in the short run anyway, it's a lot cheaper to eat junk!
I was just wondering if any Passporters out there are interested in sharing recipes and shopping tips!
We keep saying we need to start a garden but never do. Down here we could probably grow salad stuff all winter, though not summers. I checked out a book called Square Foot Gardening yesterday. I keep meaning to read it but you know how it goes. Disney board are a LOT more fun!
I definitely need to start growing herbs in containers. Those things are crazy expensive!

Unfortunately that's our experience too. Despite the fact that I don't eat meat, so we order very little of that and only order a bit of fish, so most of our weekly shop is made up of fruit and vegetables, it always seems to cost us a fortune every week.
DH and I are starting the Flat Belly Diet on 1 Feb. You may be able to check the book out at a local library. It is a good way to lose a few pounds and get rid of excess fat...it really is a change in the way you eat. Good luck! You'll always have support here!
My mom and I are Weight Watchers and both LOVE to cook, so I would love some new healthful recipes to share. We love our fruits and veggies, the biggest thing we've realized with cost cutting is you have to really shop around. We check out all the grocery ads and check prices weekly to find the best deals. Also a less expensive otpion, though not as healthful but better than nothing, are frozen veggies, they are a great alternative, especially in recipes.
But if you do want gardening support as well, that is a favourite summer hobby here! Once you get your patch started its pretty easy to maintain, imho anyway. Every year we grow a few varieties of squash, tomatoes, eggplant and cucumbers along with lettuce and herbs near our back door, this year I think we're going to be adventurous and try onions and garlic as well! Good luck in your healthy new year!

Tonight we're having white beans (from the freezer, I'm sure they're made with tasso!), brown rice and carrots. Hubby is NOT a veggie person and carrots are on the menu. I think I'm going to try to cook them with a bit of OJ and see how that goes over.
I saw a link on the Flat Belly thread for a weight-loss support thread but I can't access it. Anyone know how?
Yea I am there too. I am trying to eat more healthy these days. But fast food is so much cheaper. Thats the problem. Still all in all McDonald's is not your friend. (Have you ever seen the movie Fast Food Nation??) I wish you luck. scott
Ive tried various things over the years, fad diets, Weightwatchers, etc. Everything seemed temporary until I decided just to get healthy. My cholesterol was high , I was borderline diabetic, etc. I decided to workout everyday (45 mins on the treadmill, some weights, stretching and ab work) and I cut out all the white refined stuff such as white bread, white pasta, white sugar. In a year I lost 25 lbs and did it the safe way...nice and slow. I can't say that I haven't fallen off the wagon but I don't fall too far before Im right back on it again. Ive found that when my mind set changed from being healthy instead of just wanting to lose weight, it happened for me.
That's what I want to do. I'm not all that concerned about weight loss, just want to get healthier. I've been able to get away with murder these past 48 years but it's catching up with me!
We have a great Farmer's Market around here. It's a small shop that has fresh fruits and veggies much cheaper than at ShopRite, which is where I shop for everything else. Yes, it's an extra stop and a little extra time -- and I don't do it every week -- but it does offer a nice savings when I go. Maybe you have some place like that around you?
I find great healthy recipes at Recipes - Eating Well and CookingLight.com - Eat Smart. Be Fit. Live Well.. I love my Diet and Nutrition magazine too...they have a website too! Eating healthy can be work. I tried several different stores for comparsions on produce as well as organics(if you want to try these and save money you can usually plug in organic grocery coupons on a search and have some luck saving a few dollars). Sometimes I find myself going to a major store for basics and then a local owned store for better-priced produce and local grown foods. You could try Local Harvest / Farmers Markets / Family Farms / CSA / Organic Food, but with this...healthy sometimes you do pay more...it's sad. It's cheap to be unhealthy. UGH!
Nutrition is my field. I worked as a registered dietitian before I started my own business from home. Anyway...the best advice I can give you in terms of getting healthy is get the processed, prepackaged food out of your diet. If God (or whomever) didn't make it, don't eat it. Cut back on or eliminate things like sugar and white flour that have no nutritional value.
In the summer, look for a CSA to join. Local Harvest will tell you where the closest CSAs, farmer's markets, and family farms are to your area. To join a CSA, you pay a yearly fee and then during the season you get a box of produce on a weekly basis. Lots of it is organic and all of it is locally grown. It's one of the best things we ever did.
My kids are all healthy eaters, so they keep me in line. Although it seems more expensive, I think in the long run it is cheaper. It really is the junk that costs a lot. I also shop at my local grocery. One friend suggested to just shop the perimeters.
One cheap quick and healthy eating option is to have real oatmeal for breakfast (not the packets). My older DS adds some frozen berries. I buy a canister of regular (not instant) oats for less than $2.00 and it lasts close to 2 weeks.
