Everything you want to know about Renting ECVs and Wheelchairs (in the Parks and from Off-Site) - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Everything you want to know about Renting ECVs and Wheelchairs (in the Parks and from Off-Site)
I already have a list of names to check out (I'm using an off-site company) but was wondering if you can put one on hold and then pay with a credit card later? I need to rent one for the week we are there and am not sure of the procedures. I'm thinking they are all pretty close to the same.

We used http://www.scootarama.com/ on our last trip and will use them again.
They do require a credit card to hold your order.
You will be charged for the length of rental on the day it is delivered to you.

Reason: bad link
We have used Care Medical Equipment (a Passporter suggestion) twice for my aunt and have been pleased. They deliver to your hotel. As far as payment, you give them the credit card number when you make the reservation but they don't charge it until 2 days before your arrival.
WOW! Thanks for the info. on scootarama We just found out that we may need to rent a scooter for our WDW trip in December and thier prices are really decent.
We used Scootarama in May, And they charge less than most all the others.. They Deliver and Pick-up no charge. The ECV was ready and waiting when we arrived.
When we go in January I am bringing my own ECV

How do you get the ECV to the different parks? Can they be put on the buses?
[/ QUOTE ]
ECVs can be put on the buses; almost 100% of the buses are equipped with lifts or ramps (depending on the age of the bus - the older ones have lifts). After it's loaded onto the bus, the driver will fasten it down with tiedown straps. A total of 2 wheelchairs or ECVs can be loaded on one bus.
ECVs can also be put on the monorail. The cast member will direct you to a particular monorail car; they have a small portable ramp they can put down for you to drive right in. When you arrive at the next stop, they will put another small ramp down for you to drive off.
ECVs can also go on most of the boats (they have a small ramp for those just like the monorail). They can't go on the smaller motor launches that go between MK and the MK resorts. Sometimes (when the water level is either very high or very low) the boat going to WL is not accessible because the boat is floating too high or too low compared to the dock. The boats that go between Epcot and the Studio are wheelchair/ECV accessible.
I wasn't charged until the actual rental was delivered. The off-site rental is the way to go and yes, it is fairly easy to get the ECVs on most of the Disney transportation. If, by chance, a bus does arrive that isn't equipped, just askthe driver to radio ahead and send one to the stop- it is usually quite quick. Use the "search" feature on this site and you can gain a lot of valuable info on ECVs and WDW. Enjoy your trip

I rented a Scooter from Randy's today for my trip in May. I got the heavy duty one with the sunshade. It cost me 215.00 for a week. They put it through my card today. I have a late check in about 9:30. I was given a name and number to call when I arrive said I can call before 11pm. That the scooter should be delivered by 8:00 am the next morning. I'll let you know how it goes. I would never have thought to do this if I had not read these boards. Just wanted to say thanks.
Hi All!
I have found anther company with a web site that allows you to view their prducts and to then "rent" the scooters and have them delivered to your hotels anywhere that you might be staying. They even have several models for the "Poooh-sized" among us! I actually own a small ECV from this company so I can vouch for the product itself, but, of course, this is not an endorsement of any kind. The web-site is: Amigo Mobility International - Amigo Home

To scooterama;
I had unexpected major surgery two weeeks before my scheduled trip to WDW last Nov. When we arrived at our resort my scooter was waiting for me. I used it on all the transportation and at the resort and was even able to use it up until the time I had to board my bus to leave. They were terrific and delivered all they promised!
I will say that there was not a lot of consistancy with the wdw bus drivers on loading and unloading. Some would do it for you, others would guide you. others would partialy assist you. All were pleasant and regardless of your ability to "park" I was able to navigate my entire trip with ease. I cannot say about others but for me this was the way to go !

We used Scooterama during one of our trips. They were great. The scooter was waiting at our hotel and was picked up after we left. If we need a scooter again I will definitely use Scooterama.
My last trip to WDW in Jan 06 I rented an ECV from AA Tourist Rentals. It too came with a canopy. They are a awesome company. I found them on a intenet search, they are in Kissimmee right out side WDW they dropped off my ECV at the hotel before we arrived and picked it up after we left. We where at WDW for 10 days and the cost was reasonable, While at WDW My parents came to visit as they live in Florida and both have mobility issues, needless to say I call this company and they delivered 2 more ECV's the next day ,they where very accomodating. I have already reserved my ECV for this trip and becsue I am a return customer recieved a discout.
This company is awesome in my opionion.
