As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). There are so many things to see and do in NYC. As for Broadway, I totally recommend Little Mermaid. We just saw it last week and it was a really good play. The dress, I would say is business casual to dressy. All depends upon the person. My DS wore jeans and a polo shirt, my DD wore pants. Nothing too fancy.
We were in New York a couple of weeks ago. My goodness, there are so many must-sees. Some that come to mind include:
- Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
- Ground Zero
- Times Square
- Macy's
- Central Park
- Empire State Building
- Rockefeller Center
I could go on, there are so many things to see and do in the city. As for plays, I would love to have seen the Little Mermaid, but there was no way jetlag would've allowed us to do that.
Hi! There's so much to do here in New York, it's hard to narrow it all down. Have you been here before? I guess the top must-see's would be
- Times Square
- Rockefeller Center/Top of the Rock
- Central Park
- Empire State Building
- Statue of Liberty
- Metropolitan Museum of Art
- American Museum of Natural History
I'm a HUGE Broadway fan and have seen many, many shows this past year. Of them all, Spring Awakening, Hairspray and Spamalot were my favorites. All three are closing this coming January though, so you would have to be visiting before then. Spring Awakening was phenomenal, but it's very risque so it depends on the audience, and Spamalot and Hairspray were hysterical. I saw the Little Mermaid and liked it, but didn't love it. I liked the actors and music, but the sets and costumes were ridiculous. It looked more like a theme park production than a Broadway show. If you're a Disney fan, stick with The Lion King! Of the new shows, you can't beat Billie Elliott. It was truly phenomenal and is a huge hit, so tickets may be hard to come by. I loved it! There's also Shrek, plus 9 to 5, Hair and West Side Story are opening early next year. There's a lot of great shows to choose from! Dress is very mixed - it's mainly casual with people wearing jeans and nice shirts, but dress pants and skirts are common too. No one gets too dressed up anymore.

When are you going? The window displays are wonderful.. Here is a helpful hint if you are driving then get up around 4am get in your car and go see the tree at rockerfella then go see the window displays that are in all the stores.. You can drive right up to them at that time and the tree is lit and NO crowds. It is the best time to go... If you have a little girl. the american girl store is magical. Also the museum of natural history is great.
just a tangent... there is a difference between a play and a musical... spending time in the industry (related anyway) beat that into me.. a musical using songs and lyrics to progress the story. little mermaid for example is a musical. a play (or straight play) can have music but it's not a key component to the story line.
and incidentally, broadway just means someone spent big bucks to produce and house a show. some of the best theatre in new york is (off) off broadway (then again, so is some of the worst). a lot of successful broadway shows actually started as successful off broadway shows.
that said, i live in nyc so i'm here every day. well, except when i'm somewhere else.
there's also a ripley's odditorium that opened up next to madam tussauds, i haven't been yet though but i want to (i've been to the one in LA and loved it). across the street is the sanrio store too, although it's been closed for renovations. should open anytime now if it hasn't already.
a few blocks down from the american girl store (and even a bit further from the NYC WOD) is the world's largest build-a-bear which includes a build-a-dino section as well as a restaurant. on the opposite side of the WOD is FAO Schwarz which isn't up to its golden years but it's got some interesting things in it if you have time to kill. also there is an evidently very famous apple store. a bit beyond that is central park zoo, but every animal you see in the madagascar flicks (and the wild for that matter) don't actually reside there.
then there's the aol time warner center continuing in that direction.
in the times square area, you have toys r us, the largest toy store in the world. the largest virgin megastore (but that's closing soon), mtv and its shops.
I would suggest seening something on broadway and if you have the Disney chase card they are offering a buy one get one for any disney on broadway. or you can stand in line at the discounted ticket booth.. but there is no guarantee that you will get the ticket to the show you want!
American Museum of Natural History! Also, we love American Girl Place for little girls age 3 and up! You can even have a meal there or tea time. SO FUN!
Re: plays ~ any play really! Take a look at playbill.com and join. They offer some pretty good member discounts! We saw Mary Poppins and Legally Blonde recently and both were great... Legally Blonde was a HOOT!
