Disneyland Paris Half Marathon Weekend - PassPorter Meet - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Disneyland Paris Half Marathon Weekend - PassPorter Meet
I started this thread so we can plan a PassPorter Meet during the Disneyland Paris Half Marathon weekend in September
I suggest dinner on Saturday night so we can fuel up for the half marathon on Sunday
My suggestion when it comes to picking a restaurant would be:
Hunter's Grill at Disney's Sequoia Lodge Resort, which is a very reasonably priced buffet with something for everyone
(the buffet is either at Hunter's Grill or Beaver Creek Tavern, located opposite each other at Disney's Sequoia Lodge)
Alternatively, I could also recommend
Café Mickey (Disney Village), character meal - a fun atmosphere albeit a bit crowded and loud
Rainforest Cafe (Disney Village) - pretty much what you'd expect Last year they offered discounts for runners
Annette's Diner (Disney Village) - a cute diner-type restaurant with classic American fare
Cape Cod (Disney's Newport Bay Club Resort) - another reasonably priced buffet with a great selection
So, what do you think? Tanya? Amy? (And anyone else who'll be there, of course!)
I'm thinking not rainforest cafe simply because it's not unique.
And I'm questioning Cape Cod - is it heavy on the seafood? (I don't eat it! Boring, I know)
And while Annette's looks good, personally I can't do burgers before a race.
I guess I'm picky! I have a sensitive tummy and often have GI issues during races. So I have to keep it very bland and simple pre-race.
So I'm guessing Hunters Grille may have the best variety? At WDW, I often eat kids meals, noodles/rice, turkey sandwiches pre-race. Post race though - anything goes!! (Except seafood, that's just gross. )

I'm right there with ya - seafood is gross! Since everyone is different when it comes to pre-race foods, I figured a buffet would work best.
One plus for the Rainforest Cafe would be that they have great pasta dishes.
If you have any other restaurants you'd like, I'm open to suggestions as well! I just thought I'd throw out a few ideas since I've been to DLP a few times (I assume this is your first trip there?).
First visit, yes! A buffet is a great idea, totally Ok with that! So either the Sequoia lodge one or Cape Cod is good - as long as Cape Cod isn't heavy on the seafood.
Or if there's one in the parks too, that's an option as well. I kind of started to look into restaurants for a while and then stopped. So I don't remember anymore. You know how the brain only holds info for a short amount of time.....
I know Amy and I were talking about the only place we really wanted to try was Chez Remy, if that's what it's called? We were going to go there on Sunday after the half. So we haven't really looked much into other places that require reservations in the parks.

I picked a few restaurants outside of the park since we'd be less rushed there. Sounds like the buffet at the restaurant at Sequioa Lodge would work best.
Late to the party, but I'm here now! I'm so excited to plan something!
First off, how can you guys think seafood is gross? I love it!
I am fine eating anywhere Saturday night as long as there is chicken, rice, or pasta of some sort. I'm not too picky. I still remember my first marathon at Disney where I ate beef jerky and a microwave baked potato for dinner in my room.
Same thing - if that buffet has chicken, rice or pasta, and yummy desserts, then it's a winner!!

I *assume* we'll be fine as it's a standard buffet. Since DH and I are staying at Sequoia Lodge, I can go check out the buffet on Friday night. In the unlikely event that there's not a good selection of pasta, rice, chicken and desserts, we can always switch to the safe option (Rainforest Cafe) at the last minute. Sound good?
Sounds perfect. And hey - that's where we are staying too! So we can look as well, although we're running the 5K Friday night. ....

Yes, I've stayed there twice times so far and love the theming. Just remember that it's a moderate resort so it will fall short in comparison to the Wilderness Lodge... The indoor pool is great, though, and I love the main public space right in the middle of the main building with a huge fireplace. Last time we stayed there, DH and I would sit in that area and sip a nice cocktail at night

Thanks for thinking of me but nope, we already booked a package in the fall A friend of mine just booked her bib only, though, so I'm happy she'll be joining us!
Yay! I couldn't remember if you did a package or not.
How did your friend get her bib only? I saw on a lot of FB that there were technical issues and they've now postponed bib only sales. Soooo happy we did a package too. No worries for us!
It's getting so close now! Time to really start planning this thing.
