As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I am planning a trip for DL Paris in late May, early June. My daughter and I plan on spending a few days at DL Paris and 3 or 4 days exploring the real Paris. My initial thought was to stay at a Disney resort for 2 nights and then move to a centrally located hotel for 4 nights to explore Paris. Then I saw some negative reviews of the DL Paris resorts on Passporter from last Fall.
So, should I skip the 2 night stay at a Disney hotel and commute to the Park from a centrally located hotel? Also, is DL Paris a 1 day park? Or should we plan on 2 days to explore?
We will be jet lagged the first day so maybe we should stay at a Disney hotel so we don't have to travel to get to the Park. Then when we are acclamated to the time zone we can explore the real Paris. We've never been there.

Hmmm... this is a tough one. If you're jetlagged, don't forget you'll need to get from the airport to Disneyland Paris - I assume that's what you meant by being jetlagged, that you'll be flying straight into Paris?
While it may sound like a nice plan to be jetlagged at the parks, part of me says I'd start with a centrally located hotel, as that's easy to get to from the airport, and take your time exploring Paris. You've got a few days allocated there, so you can (to a certain extent ) take your time a bit with that aspect of the trip and then be a bit more refreshed for Disneyland Paris - after all, you know what it's like exploring Disney parks!
I'd allow a couple of days to explore Disneyland Paris, as there are two parks and I think a first timer would find plenty to do to keep them occupied for two days. Do keep in mind that the last week in May is British school half term week, so the parks will most likely be packed then. I can't remember if there are any French holidays right at the beginning of June, but that would get my vote for park time.
As far as whether to stay at or near the parks, it's about a 40 minute commute on the RER train. If your hotel is near a stop on line A, that will help you, as you won't have to change to get to the line you need for Disneyland Paris. It depends whether you're happy to get up earlier to head to the parks and whether you're happy with not having anywhere nearby to head back to for a break during the day. If you are visiting during a British school holiday when the parks are going to be busy, you'll obviously want to get to the parks early to maximise your time and that may mean an even earlier start.
We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel a couple of months ago and loved it there, but it is crazy expensive - we got a wonderful deal, which is why we were able to enjoy it. I know they have had a lot of work going on at the Newport Bay Club recently, which is why that's probably had negative reviews. I don't know if that work is concluded or not. A non-Disney option that we really liked was the Dream Castle Hotel. It's about a 10-15 bus ride from the parks and the hotel was beautiful.

That does like a better plan to me. School holidays will be the week commencing 25 May this year, as that Monday is a national holiday over here.
I'd definitely recommend two days at DLP, simply because there definitely are attractions that are unique to this Disney location and not to be missed. Personally, I love staying on-site whenever we're at DLP. It is nice to be able to walk to the parks and take a quick break at the hotel during the day if you're tired or if it rains (which is always a possibility ). Also, you can enjoy the Disney Village at night. For me, it's just too much of a hassle to "commute" from and back to the city of Paris.
Disney's off-site partner hotels in the vicinity are a good option if you have a car. Otherwise, I'd stick to the Disney resorts. While the value and moderate resorts at DLP may not be up to par with their counterparts at WDW, I've always enjoyed my stay there and keep going back.
