The “There is no crying (screaming, pouting, etc.) at Disney World” TR – Aug 24 – Sept 3, 2011 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The “There is no crying (screaming, pouting, etc.) at Disney World” TR – Aug 24 – Sept 3, 2011
The title... well, let's just say that this "family" vacation turned out the same way many a family vacation have turned out since the dawn of time!
Many of you are probably wondering why it has taken me so long to write this TR. I guess my excuse is that life got in the way. My son started Kindergarden, we bought a house, blah, blah, blah.
Anyway...I did start a PTR, a while ago..., but for those of you who did not read it, here are the Cast of Characters.
Group 1
Me(Shauna) - 33, Accountant, OCD planner
DH(Steve) - 41, Machine Engineer, philosophy "It is what it is."
DS(Austyn) - 5, loves everything with wheels, especially Mater and Finn
Group 2
DSis (Kristin) - 31, Nurse Practitioner, anti-OCD Planner (this is important!!!)
DSisBF(?) (Drew) - 28, Photographer (who did NOT bring his camera!!! ), cyclist
DN (Caitlin) - 9, gymnast and drama queen
Where did we stay:
Group 1: Family Suite at ASMu - it was in the Jazz section on the 1st floor. (I don't remember the room #, but we were in the first building for Jazz, right after the Guitar pool, on the right if you are walking toward the Piano pool)
Group 2: Standard, 2 double. They were in the same building we were just on the side facing the pool.

Since DSis and her fam live in Syracuse and we live in Rochester, we decided to fly out of ROC because the flights were cheaper. We had an early morning flight, 7AM, so DSis and fam stayed at a hotel near the airport.
ROC is not a busy airport, so the "1.5 to 2 hr." before your flight rule rarely applies. However, you have to tell DSis, "We need to be at the airport by 5:30AM because we have have to be there 2 hrs. ahead to check-in, etc." because if you don't give her EXTRA time, you will never get there on time!
DH, DS, and I roll into the hotel parking lot at a little after 5 and what do you know, they are not ready! DN was having a fit about what she did and did not want to wear. We finally got that mess straightened out and we were off to the airport! It wasn't far from the hotel, so we go there at about 6AM, checked some bags, and went through security. This is where the next hitch happened.
Months prior to leaving for this trip, I sent DSis a list of items that could be in a carry on and how they were to be packed. (She had not flown since our last trip to DW in 2001!) So, DH, DS & I get through screening with no problem, we know the drill! Then the wait begins...
DH: What is the hold up? Me: IDK, but I bet she packed something I TOLD her NOT to!!
Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! She had packed a full size bottle of sunblock in her carry on! So, she had to say to the sunblock because they took it.
After the dust settled, we stopped for a quick breakfast at Dunkin' and waited for our flight. The attendants said it was going to arrive a little early and it did. In no time, we were boarding and in the air! This was the first time DSisBF and DN had ever flown and they were a little nervous, but by the time we changed planes in DC and were off again, they were like old pros! We landed at MCO at 12:30 and it was off to pick up the rentals, which lead to the next problem!

Ch-Ch-Changes July 2015

After we landed, we made our way to the Hertz rental counter to pick up our cars. I decided early on that we should get two, so we could “do our own thing” if we wanted to. (Remember this as it will come up later!) I, like many others on this board, had a binder/folder full of all the documents that I would need for our stay. So, I went up to the counter and presented the confirmation documents for our cars. (I had reserved and paid for the cars through Hotwire months prior.) The woman at the counter proceeded to tell me that I will have to pay for the “extra day”.
Me: What extra day? I reserved the vehicle only for the length of our stay. Aug 24th to Sept 3rd Hertz Lady: Yes, but that is 11 days and you only paid for 10. Me: How did I do that? On Hotwire, I put the travel days in and it told me a price for that length of time. Hertz Lady: You did, but Hotwire does not have the ability to charge you for the extra day. You only paid for 10 days, your stay is 11. Me: Yes, but I am only using the car for 10 24 hour periods, not 11. So that’s 10 days. Hertz Lady: No your request is from Aug 24th to Sept 3rd , 11 days. Me: (Counting on my fingers) Wed-Thurs -1 day, Thurs –Fri -2 days, Fri-Sat – 3 days, Sat-Sun – 4 days, Sun-Mon – 5 days, Mon-Tues – 6 days, Tues-Wed. – 7 days, Wed-Thurs – 8 days, Thurs-Fri – 9 days, Fri-Sat – 10 days Hertz Lady: All, I know is that you will have to pay for the extra day when you drop off the car.
(Hence the “I can count, can you?”)
After that fiasco, I told the woman I would call Hotwire and have them straighten it out which I did the next day. (I called Hotwire and they 3-way called the Hertz desk at the airport. They noted both accounts that we should not be charged for the extra day. They said it must have been a computer glitch. Yeah, yeah… ). I just wanted to get our cars and get to Disney!!!
1st stop though, Walmart, for some breakfast goodies, drinks, and snacks. I brought our GPS and looked up an address for Walmart before we left home. I don’t know what was up with our GPS, but it took us everywhere but Walmart. After driving all over the place, we gave up and just went to the resort because it was already getting on 2pm. We had dinner ressies at WCC and I wanted to be able to get settled in the room before we went.
I had done on-line check in, so that was a breeze. The CM noticed that it was DS and DN’s first trip and told them to hold it right there while he went and got them something. He came back with a bunch of little toys, Pez dispensers, pens, etc. for the kids! My DS was so happy because he got a Finn McMissle Pez dispenser, it was all he talked about for the rest of the night! Before we left the lobby, we asked the CM outside where the nearest Walmart was. (Still needed those supplies!!) He was nice enough to go get a map of the property and show us where to go. (I just love the care the CM’s take at Disney. They are just so HAPPY to help you!)

Great start! Too funny about the sunscreen! What a pain at Hertz! But glad you straightened it out. On Photobucket you can select the size of your pictures as you upload them or resize them individually as select each.
