As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So I want to get more interesting character pictures during our Disney trip this year. Our pretty standard pose has DH and I standing with our arms by our sides. We'll also put our arms around the shoulder of the character (I know, such an interesting variation, right? )
Any other ideas for fun or different poses? Anything has got to be better than ours! If you have picture examples I would love to see them! I would love to see "generic" fun poses, as well as some that could be specific to characters. (I know someone's picture has people posing like rats with the Ratatouille characters)

That's pretty much the extent of our photos too, but my cousin visited MK a few years ago and had his photo taken with Genie. Bryan told him to do something funny for the photo and before he knew what hit him, Genie picked him up!!! Sometimes you just have to ask to get a different type of photo!!
DD(14) likes to kiss the costumed (non-face) characters on the cheek--some allow this, some don't. She never even asked to do this with the "real" people or "face" characters. This year she was shocked and awed when Aladdin did the same to her! Not sure about the rules for that, but that one slipped by! Talk about making a 14 year old girl's day!

We've had quite a bit of success, when we've gone with props....some planned, some not. We got a lot of great pics at the Garden Grill when we had an empty can of Easy Cheese with us, not to mention some hilarious interaction! Then, when we went to DLR this past February, DS had his Rubik's cube no matter where we went. The characters it at Storyteller's Cafe! A lot of our favorite photos have been when the characters start to do something outrageous, then we just roll with it. I think the interaction photos I have are much better than the posed.

my brother bounced with Tigger, and Tigger demanded our group photo be a certain way... it was awesome
I danced with Eeyore which was beautiful.
A friend of mine got her picture taken with Jack during the P&PP and it is flipping hot! It's stunning... it helps that she is also a CM so I guess they know each other, but still...
if you're comfy with them, and what you want to do is family friendly I think anything goes!
DH has in the past pretended to be another beast when he met the Beast - that made for some good photos. I can't think of anything else specific. We usually take our lead from the characters - and anything they do that's fun, we tend to replicate.

It was a blast to watch DS7 hop with Tigger at Crystal Palace. I would imagine that the characters enjoy a bit of banter with the guests too as it gives them an opportunity to ham it up.
I'll never forget DS10 teasing DS7 about his red lipstick kiss with Snow White. It was all fun and games until the following year Jasmine planted a purple one on DS10!

I can't remember her nae at the moment, but the "Talent Agent" at DHS had us pose like movie stars! I usually just go with whatever they are doing. Those plain old stand there with the character pics get kinda boring!! Maybe this next trip we'll try for funner pics!

I will have to look for them when I get home, but I got some terrific pics of DD with Capt Hook. He had knocked her cap off her head because she had glitter on it and that reminded him of Tink. DD looked at him with her arms akimbo in a very indgnant pose. (I snapped that one.) The photopass guy took one of her and Capt Hook arms crossed and back to back with their legs spread in a kind of Peter Pan pose.
When i had my pic taken with Tigger we danced. The photopass guy took a few of us with our arms out dancing waltz style. My dad snapped one where Tigger was spinning me just before a dip.
I agree that the best pics are not the posed ones, but the ones where you are playing and interacting with the character. Good luck getting the pics you want!
