MeStitch and Brit Invader: I would have made you proud - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

MeStitch and Brit Invader: I would have made you proud
Allie, our 9 year old, LOVES the Beatles. Just today she was listening to "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", and "Hey Jude". She loves everything about them. When we moved into our new house in February, she only wanted Beatles posters in her new room. ha ha ha She makes her dad, proud.
I introduced her to "All those years ago" by George Harrison today and told her the story behind it and she said "Add it to my iPod, Dad" I've explained what happened to John Lennon and you would think it was a close relative of hers how she reacted.
Besides The Beatles, she loves "Paint it Black" by The Rolling Stones, "Fortunate Son" by CCR, and "Smoke in the Water" by Deep Purple.
Honestly, I'm putting the responsibility of reviving Rock n Roll on my 9 year old's shoulders.

Sounds to me like you're doing a good job We pretty much only listen to older music... My iPod plays The Who in the car or I listen to one of Andy's Beatles CDs. I've really gotten into Queen lately while Andy has started to feed an infatuation for Jimi Hendrix lately. I'm also listening to some solo Ringo stuff and solo Lennon stuff at work. We also love Fleetwood Mac, and Lindsey Buckingham solo, Tom Petty (With and without the Heartbreakers... I mean really, he's pretty much always "Played" with the Heartbreakers)....
My middle daugheter is a Beatles freak too! (just like her mommy) she cried when my mom and I went to see Paul McCartney and could only get 2 tickets so she couldn't come with. Her favorite Albums are Rubber Soul and Abbey Road (because her name is Abby Rose and we tell her we named her as close to the Album as we could without crossing the overzealous fan line haha)

She loves Tom Petty too! Right now, She's starting to love some of my music from my days at college. I went to UGA (duh lol) and that is where REM, The B-52s etc are from. So she's just starting to get into some REM but she loves "Love Shack" by the B-52s too. I also have introduced her to bands I started loving in college like Dave Matthews Band, Counting Crows, etc. We consider "Where are you Going" by DMB as one of our personal faves.
On a funny note, I did feel odd when she asked me to download "Iron Man" by Ozzy Osbourne. I just felt wrong knowing my daughter likes Ozzy.
I think I'm going to get her a new playlist of songs this summer to gauge her growth!
How could I forget REM??? I have been overly obsessed with REM since I was about 15, so going on 13 years now. I do think their new album, Accelerate, is the best thing they've done since Bill left. I did like Around the Sun, but I think they just continued to improve with this new one. And the Counting Crows.... oh how I love Adam Duritz's voice and passion. They're another band I've loved since they broke out with their first album....possibly the best album of all times in my opinion. Anna Begins.... my favorite!
Andy just reminded me too to say that I've totally met 3/4's of REM We got to go to the Georgia Music Hall of Fame awards show and I almost had a panic attack when I met Bill Berry (we're talking tears here people) and Mike Mills and then briefly met Peter Buck for an autograph....
Yeah, that was my "I've pretty much done everything in my life" moment.... I still "holy crap" over it everytime I look at the pictures
My parents raised me on 60's folk music. The first was The Kingston Trio followed by Simon and Garfunkel, the album "Sound of Silence" really shaped me as a person. Then I saw a nike commercial with "Revolution" playing in the background, I said, "Wow mom, what's that." Then she put on the long out of print "Hey Jude" compliation...I was floored, it really changed me. Right now I'm listening to Lou Reed, David Bowie, and Tom Waits...I'm always going on kicks. Anyway...
Good job on starting her off right, the best part about music is that it can open you up to so much in life. Listening to Nirvana lead to David Bowie and then to painters like Basquiat and then writers like William Burroughs...it's a great journey!

Coming up: July 2010 - Animal Kingdom Lodge for Mel's 30th Birthday!!!!!
My Mom was a graduate of Class of 1967, Summer of Love, Flower Children, Monterey Pop Fest, etc. I was born and raised on The Beatles, The Momas and The Papas, Kingston Tria, Peter Paul and Mary, etc. While other kids' Moms would stay home and turn on their soaps in the afternoons, my Mom would pull out her records. I knew the words to "Puff the Magic Dragon" probably about the same time I learned "itsy Bitsy Spider", lol. I also loved The Carpenters, and "Sing" was another favorite.
Now that she's passed away, I own her collection. How many of you would be jealous to know that I have her original Sgt. Pepper's Album, complete with cutouts still intact? I also have the original Magical Mystery Tour album with the storybook. Nope, not for sale.

We SWORE we were NOT going to push our love of the Beatles on our son.
However, he seemed to pick it up anyway! At 3 one of his favorite movies is "Yellow Submarine" (along with Cars, Monsters Inc and anything with Chip/Dale in it). He was given the Yellow Submarine story book as a baby (and it was NOT by our request) and he will often ask for it as a bedtime story (it's a LONG book, so we do a condensed version). He likes to imitate the "Dreadful Flying Glove".
He will often walk around singing bits of "Yellow Submarine", "All Together Now", "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "All You Need Is Love." He can name all 4 Beatles (John, Paul, George and Ringo -- they called the Beatles); although sometimes he confuses them (hey, you got to give the kid a break -- he's not yet 3!).
He also met Laurence Juber (of Wings) when he was not yet 1!
