Star Wars Weekends: Episode IV - New Hope(s) May/June 2012 - Page 91 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Jeez I got so far behind--I'm sorry--started new job this week! I'm so sorry the parade got canceled but it looks like you made out okay. The carbonized Mike is super cool--I hope they do this again next year as I'd like to send carbonized Heather to my Dad, who is a huge Star Wars fan. Glad you got in a nap and all the insulin issues worked out. It sounds like you had a great evening at DHS--especially only waiting for 15 minutes for TSMM!

Aww Kelly, that pic of Lukas hugging Sorcerer Mickey, so cute! So glad he wasn't too afraid to go up to him.
Love Mike's carbonizing thing. It came out pretty good!
I still can't get over how much older Jake Lloyd is too. I don't think I would recognize him in a different context.
Cool pics of Darth Vader and two of your guys. We missed alot of the characters but duh with the rain while we were there most of them weren't out and about taking photos. We saw some Storm Troopers near TSMM but that was about it. It also doesn't help that I couldn't get my happy self to the park earlier either.
And I hope to get to the Stephanie and Dylan convo in my TR atleast before you leave for your Sept trip. Again your boys are such cuties and sweethearts. Steph and I had fun playing with Lukas during lunch while Dylan "drove" us around.
All caught up now... Amazing day! I love the carbonized Mike, Donald is as cute as ever and meeting Darth Vader is awesome! It's weird because Vader is so scary and such a bad (I mean good!?) villain, but then he's so cool! It must be the cape...

Congrats on the new job Heather! I hope you're enjoying it.
I think a lot of people hope they bring it back - it seems pretty popular. I hear it's supposed to be at the SW convention in Orlando this month too. I think it would be nice to offer a female version as well.

It definitely paid to get there early. And really wasn't an issue. I'm surprised I had to wake Dylan up that day.
Aw! Thanks about the boys! They can be such stinkers, so it's good to know they aren't always like that.

Maybe the cape - or the crazy breathing. Donald is pretty cute as a stormtropper.
Even after our long day we were up at ‘em fairly early and arrived at Epcot by 9:30am.
I took the boys on Figment while Mike got FPs for Soarin’ and then of course they had to play in the exit area of Figment for a while. I think I took 3 trips to the bathroom after the ride too. Once to change Lukas, once for Dylan to go, and then myself.
After Figment we headed to Ellen aka Universe of Energy at 10:20am. We just call it Ellen. We really like this ride and it’s a nice break from the heat. Bonus for the boys is the dinosaurs!
It's really hard to get photos on this ride!
Staying in FW, we headed to Nemo next at 11:30am. Lukas now had learned to yell “Mine! Mine! Mine!” and it continues at home still. Although Mike is usually the one to start. And somehow I ended up riding with both boys while Mike was by himself.
After Nemo our FP for Soarin’ was ready so Dylan & I headed off over California at 11:45am. We had a great flight as usual although there was a man in our row that called the CM a name rhyming with witch just before our flight took off. She told him to put his hat and a bottle of soda underneath and he didn’t like it. I mean really sir?
After Soarin’ we had to hoof it to Japan for our 12:30pm lunch at Teppan Edo with Heather. Sorry we were late Heather! Once we arrived we were seated immediately. Mike had wanted to try this restaurant so I made the ADR for him. I could have gone with out it and after eating there, won’t be rushing back. It was great to see Heather and talk with her, but the actual meal and ‘chef’ left more to be desired. Plus this place is pricey! Later on dinner with an additional 3 people was as much as this meal was. We also realized that the kid’s portions are just as big as the adults. The boys were rather restless during this meal too and I felt like I was trying to keep them entertained and couldn’t talk to Heather much either. This is the meal I almost lost Dylan’s Pluto hat too. I came out and Dylan asked where it was Uh oh! I went back to the table – it wasn’t there. I asked at the podium, but they didn’t have it. So I went back to the table, then I remembered we’d gone to the restroom and I’d hung it on the door. There it was! Mike had gotten a beer during all this, but we wanted to get moving so Heather offered to push a stroller so Mike could finish his drink. Thanks! Once near the fountain, Heather left us as she wasn’t feeling too well. I think a combination of allergies and a cream puff from France earlier in the day. (And Heather I should’ve listened about the cream puff as I had a similar feeling Monday.) I hope we get to see Heather on our next trip.
We decided to head out but took a detour through MouseGear. Nothing was purchased, although I’m sure we could’ve done some damage.
Back at the resort Lukas took his usual nap and I tried to get Dylan to take one, but he wasn’t having it so this time I took him to the pool. He mainly went down the slide and I think I had to take him to the bathroom like 3 times too! After our afternoon break it was time to get to a park.

Wow, you guys sure did a lot of criss crossing FW this morning!! Ya know, I have never been on Ellen. I think we have to add that to the must do this trip.....Dino's involved....Josie will be all over that.
I had to laugh about the guy calling the CM a nasty name. You are soo right, really dude.....annoyed about that??!!? I would have laughed right in his face about how ridiculous that was to call her a name....
I do love hibachi places, but have no real desire to try Teppan Edo, and even more so now after your little review. I do enjoy Tokoyo Dining though But glad you got to see Heather, and I know how hard it is to have a conversation when you have 2 little ones going nutty
Fun times at Epcot. Love Soarin'... the CM should have kicked the "man" off for calling her that! (For any expletive with that many kids around.)
At least you got to spend some time with Heather.
I don't go to Teppan Edo any more, either. Underwhelming-- both the food and the experience. At least you got to spend a bit of time with Heather. Looks like the boys had fun at Imagination.

We'd originally planned an ADR for Teppan Edo, but Coach and I replaced it with Les Chefs. We have a FABULOUS place here in our city that serves up a great Hibachi (and entertains the kiddos) and two adult meals can be split to serve the five of us. After reading your review, I'm glad we didn't go with it.
Sounds like y'all did a lot of walking at Epcot that morning!

Great day at Epcot!
I can't believe the man on Soarin, that was totally uncalled for. Did he actually call the CM that to her face?
Sorry that lunch was underwhelming, but atleast you had good company with Heather!
