Southern Fried in Mickey's World Updated 12/31 - Page 9 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Oh my goodness! I had no idea the boards were ending. I’m so sad! I don’t post much, but I love reading trip reports and other tips I’ve learned from these boards. I’d still love to follow along on your trips, Cam. Do we need to be Facebook friends or can I just request to join your closed group?
Thanks for sharing about the train tour you and Luke went on. It looks really interesting. We’ve never taken a tour before but I have my eye on one for our next trip - Caring for Giants Tour at AK.
I think it can work either way: You can friend me or find the group and ask to join.
Nice time in the MK after your tour as you got a good lunch in at Pecos Bill and a few attractions. Quite a busy day here with the lines as you've stated how long they were.

PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
How on earth did I miss you starting your TR! Since we saw each other on the trip, I already knew about your rough start but after seeing the pictures you posted of your balcony construction, I agree that I would have been very disappointed in having no savanna view until after 5:00 pm and also having the workers there as it takes away the privacy feeling. Your train tour sounded so informative and fun! Luke looked like a kid in the candy shop standing in front of the train. I still can't get over how crowded the parks were this October. Love the clips that you got for your Pandora bracelet! The zip up sweatshirt you purchased is so pretty! FYI: I joined your Facebook private group. Let's try and keep the magic alive.
I can't wait until the train begins to run again so we can do the tour once again, we enjoyed it so much!
The crowds sound crazy! My goodness! At least the FP line still seems to move ok even if they are very long. 60 minutes for Philharmagic? :O That's always been a walk on practically! I can't remember the last time we had to even stop until we got to the doors!

We love Pecos Bill's for lunch, probably because we love Mexican food.

I have always enjoyed your trip reports and often learn new things about Disney I didn’t know. I will look up your facebook group.
I think it was at that point when we noticed the long standby line that we realized just how busy the park was this day.
I'm not sure we are FB friends, but you can all send me a friend request and I can add you to the closed group.

And I wasn't paying attention either as I hadn't notice your absence in the comments. We never opened the curtains until we were ready to leave each day and by the end quit doing even that. The crowds were way more than we expected, but that made the FPs so much more priceless. I definitely want us to keep the magic and our friendships alive.
You accomplished a lot, even if you were debating what to do at times.
Oh I am so glad you'll be continuing with your trip reports as well Cam when the boards close. Please add me into your Facebook group.
This was definitely a day to just go with the flow.
I truly enjoy writing my trip reports, as I know you do, too. I couldn't imagine not sharing these and you gave me the idea of a closed group and I was off.

We knew this day would be crowded as it wasn't a party date, but seriously, we never wait for Mickey's Philharmagic. But all those people had to go somewhere.

That was the upside. We knew we had 3 FastPasses so we'd get to do some rides, and the big thing for the day was the tour.
I haven't had much time to read trip reports in awhile, but when I do and I see one from you I click on it in a flash. We went to WDW mid September and I don't think I have ever sweat so much. We stayed at Pop and that walk to the DHS gates was horrendous! The whole time I was walking in I was thinking about how awful it was going to be on the way out. I have followed your trip reports for many years. I have been on the boards over 16 years. It brings tears to my eyes that we'll no longer be able to pop in here and catch up with everyone. I'm already on Facebook and sent you a friend request. Looking forward to more of this trip report as well as following your trip to Hawaii! Thanks Cam.
I can't believe the lines you encountered at Philhamagic and other places. It must have been a really busy day, for sure. I, too, had no idea the forums were closing. I found your group on FB and have requested to join.
I think it can work either way: You can friend me or find the group and ask to join.
Hi, Cam. I cannot find your private group on FB. Can you please add me? My FB name is Louise Michele. My profile picture is my family with Donald at Disney. Thanks!
