As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I texted my neighbor to let her know, but she couldn't really do much about it until that night (she's a nurse, her internet access is limited and could be interrupted by sick people at any moment!). She was working on her changes after I went to bed and in the AM I found a text from her that told me to check the fares again, that while she was checking it all out the fare dropped between her initial look and the time she actually rebooked.
So I did check. Another $90 in credits are coming my way!! For those keeping track at home, that is $288 in flight credits. Our initial fare purchase was $912 for three tickets; our current price is $624. While it certainly would be nice to get a refund, we fly SW often enough that the credit is nice too. And no fee. Why can't everyone be like SW? (minus cattle call seating and singing flight attendants---but I'll forgive it for the ontime rate, free checked bag, and this credit situation!)

66 days to go and what's my biggest concern? Is it my parent's rental car, yet to be booked? Or our own transportation from the airport, yet to be decided? Or which groceries to order, TBD also? Perhaps it's still not knowing what time my mother will go to dialysis while in Orlando?
Maybe it is breaking the news to my mother and son that Soarin' will be closed while we're there? Panicking because my mother, who has been doing better than we ever could have hoped after last May's turn for the worse, was admitted to the hospital for problems with her fistula? Am I an insomniac because the weather in January is unpredictable? What about my broken garment bag, that had been through it and from it and back to it again for years, that I'll never be able to replace without spending a zillion dollars (seriously, big big rolling garment bags are the way to go when packing a checked bag you share with someone who is 6'4", likes to wear suits to dinner and has big feet)?
No. That stuff is nagging but no, that's not what I'm worried about.
No, my primary concern revolves around one number: 44. That's how many inches tall one must be to ride Space Mountain and Expedition Everest. It's a number a certain 4 year old knows better than any other number. Is he 44 inches tall? No. Will he be? That is the million dollar question.
Last May, the first week of May, Adam was 42 inches tall. He could ride Splash, Big Thunder, Mine Train, Barnstormer, Soarin', Star Tours and Tower of Tower (he opted out of that one), but was too short for Space Mountain and Everest.I promised him he'd be tall enough in January. Promised. Because how would it be possible that the would not grow two inches, not even two inches if you count wearing shoes, in seven months. How?
I don't know how. I do know that he's grown exactly 1/2 of an inch since May 7. He has 66 days to grow another 1.5 inches. With his shoes on, an admittedly thinner shoe (Keen CNX...love these for little guys, btw, a big loop on the back and on the toungue means they can get them on really easy themselves and elastic laces means they can tighten them without knowing how to tie), he comes in at a whopping 43 inches.
He has already planned his ride, that the first day, after we land and get to the hotel, we need to go to Space Mountain. He watches ride videos, pretends he's on it already, and reminds me that he's still too short for upside down roller coasters, but Space Mountain doesn't go upside down and that's why he can go on it.

3. I'm fully aware that I'm about to complain/kvetch about what my husband kindly refers to as #richladyproblems.
When my husband says stupid things like this I kindly remind him that either I can have #richladyproblems or he can have #wishIkeptmymouthshutsoIdidn'thavetosleeponthiscou ch problems
I also completely understand about the complaining/kvetching of people who you'd consider jumping in front of a car for. Maybe not a fast moving car, but if one were going 5mph or so and they were about to be hit, you'd at least shout their name. My mother moved in with me and I now have to take her to Disney every time I go. The last time, I took her to the Beach Club. The first thing she comments - after I've paid $400 for the night - is how cheap (meaning style, not price) the room is. As if I've taken her to some highway no name motel. I guess that's what I get for taking her to the Grand Floridian the time before. #richladyproblems

Well, I've heard that parents, not good ones, have placed rolled socks in the heels of shoes to make kids a little taller.
Also, when your kid is 45 inches at the doctor, a tape measure, and the tape on the door at 7-11, but someone measures a stick wrong and says your kid can't go and breaks their heart, one might become.... "desperate".
It's not much, but he's hit 43 inches in his barefeet. Hope springs eternal. Also, Space Mountain is an enormously helpful lever in the task of moving protein from plate to tummy.
One more inch. Just one more inch, kid. You can do it!!

Thanks for the tip!!! He knows he has to be 44 inches, so hopefully we can deal with broken hearts at home rather than in line, but I'll keep this tucked in my back pocket for extreme circumstances.
