1 if by Land, 2 if by Sea - A Coop/ChukkerB PTR - Page 9 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Signing on. Photo safari idea sounds great. Dh sort of did that one year. He photographed light fixtures from around the parks and resorts. Now we have some of them framed and hanging in a group on our bedroom wall.
Love the idea of the photo safari. Continued pixies for the "after flood" clean-up and the dermatologist appointment. Still cannot believe they made you wait so long to get an appointment.
Best news of the day!
I found a pair of Mizuno shoes I LOVE and are SO Disney perfect! (wear them all day, then repeat X 12) So I'll have 2 pair of my favorite shoes for the parks :thew ave:: thewave::thewa ve::t hewave:

Very Cool! Luckily my favorite Crocs have survived the summer convention season so I will be able to wear them to Disney. Then I think I need to do some shopping afterwards.

Lists look comprehensive. And, good deal on the monthly savings arrangement.
I can imagine you would like to find out what is causing the hair issue - sorry it takes so long to get an appointment. Love your attitude. As someone who is currently rocking the bald look, I can say there are certainly advantages to not having to worry much about hair care. (Edited to add: of course, I'm not wishing this for you! )
Sharon, I know you understand about the bald look. I've shaved it down before and LOVE the fact that you don't have to worry about a "bad hair day"!

The lists look very good!
Thanks Laurie. I know that they may not have an answer either - so that's frustrating too!

After this weekend, it's gonna be focus on Disney time. We'll have ten weeks, and lot's to do. It's gonna be more like only 4-5 weeks for me,as I'm crewing
"39 Steps" With my best friend Dave. It's my favorite type of play with a small cast, and little complications. We do have quite a Diva couple in Alan, and Ross but they are super tight, and don't get too crazy.
I'm doing the list thing, and actually had sort of a brainstorm since we are staying at Kidani Village, that Coop and I could do a "Photo Safari" I'm making a list of "Targets" and could use ALL of your help in what we should "hunt".
Remember, Coop is quite a photographer, and I am more of a hack, but we'll let you be the judge. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
I wouldn't go that far to say I'm "quite the photographer" But thanks. BTW - you never told me that this was what you were going to do!

So sorry about the memories you lost in the flooding. I always think things like photos are the worst to lose, as you can't replace those.
Thanks Cheryl.

Love your lists - you're so organized!
Thanks. Not as organized as I'd like to be.

I have been following your hair ordeal on FB - and first of all - I love your attitude about it - can't say I would be so calm and collected But I do hope that they find out what the heck is causing this!!!! You just might have to be rocking some really cute hats in Disney
Chuck - my brain is freezing up right now on the photo hunt...........will have to get back to you on that..............other than the obvious - that Kidani is full of wonderful African Art work - and the proverbs all over are really interesting - to me anyway
Chuck didn't warn me of the "photo hunt"! And I'm calm re: the hair because hey - what can I do?
Chuck , I like the idea of a safari hunt. The obvious items as Lisa said are all the African art and the proverbs, but you could also see how many different animals you can capture.
I like all of these ideas - around the resort/safari/art/proverbs etc!

There are some GORGEOUS photos here ~ and they might give you some inspiration!
One thing that came to mind also was how about the different CM name tags? I am always intrigued as to where the CM's are from ~ and AKL has quite a few from Africa, which as we know is a very large area! Maybe you could find a CM from every country in Africa?
................Now you know when you compile your list (because I know my "list-loving" friends will have a list ) you will have to share with me
LOL - "list loving friends"- yep, guilty! Now remember, I just have a Cannon SX260. I'm not the pro that YOU are!

So sorry about the flooding and the hair loss! You have a great attitude about both!
Love the lists and I'm with Lisa on sharing that list when it's complete for the photo hunt.
I noticed you had small bottles of liquor on the list for the cruise. Not sure it if it's because you drink different things or just want something small, but you can bring larger items on. I brought a big bottle of margaritas on with me last year.
Glad you're caught up now! I think we will have to post that list once we get it done. A lot of people want to see it!

I will probably only bring 1 bottle (small) of bourbon and one of Gin. But I'm liking your "big bottle of margaritas" idea too!

One thing I noticed from your list -tip envelopes for the cruise. You will get pre-printed envelopes from DCL for those you should tip. I believe that they prefer that you use those so that might be something that you can check off your list. Do you know that you can also pre-pay your gratuities? I find that so much easier, and I can always add a little more if I want to.
Love the scavenger hunt idea. On my last Kidani trip, I set out to photograph all of the proverbs around the resort (I think I got them all, unless there are any in the parking area which there very well could be). I can give you a few to look for if you want.
I didn't really mean "tip envelopes" as much as "set aside the cash" like for room service tips, bellmen, and extra for our servers/stateroom host as I'm sure we would ADD to the base tip. I've also thought about making them little snack/gift bags. I hear they like candies and maybe prepaid phone cards?

I have my Derm appt tomorrow so hopefully they will figure something out. Fingers crossed. Either way, I have a hair appt on Wednesday to try to hide this but I really don't think that will be possible. It's gotten a lot bigger. So I may come home with a shaved head (think military/5 o'clock shadow). Good thing Chuck is ok with it.
We have bought some things for our trip and started a "trip bucket". It's basically a clear Rubbermaid container to hold things that we don't want to forget to pack. In it, so far, are shower poufs, hanging shoe and sweater cubbies to hang from the closet rod so we can use that in the hotel as well as the cruise, small personal fans, my Roo Sport (it's a runners pocket that holds on via strong magnets and holds money, id, phone, etc.) camera case, Frogg Toggs, and a white apron (to bring on the ship to have the characters sign).
My plan for the apron - solid white and have the characters sign in multicolored sharpies. Then when I get home, I will embroider OVER the signatures in the same color floss so they won't run or fade. Voila - I will have a unique apron for my kitchen!
We have decided on our costumes. We bought the pirate costumes and are waiting delivery of those. But we are also probably bringing scrubs for our MNSSHP night. They are comfortable and light. We don't need to worry about room - scrubs don't take up much and we are driving anyway.
Also, we get to do FP+ on Tuesday! But I'll be working so it will be Wednesday.
And just a quick vent:
I am on FB and belong to the group "Disney Junkies". They had a post that went on for over 1,000 comments about LEGGINGS! Seriously? It got downright nasty. So then I saw that a guy was posting a "where am I now" kind of post in different pools. I asked if he was DVC and was pool hopping. He admitted to "No. But I'm only there for 15 mins or so and don't bother anyone. Besides, it's hot here in August" He went on to say "I am DVC but I'm not staying there now. I only live 6 miles away. Besides I spend enough $$$ throughout the week at the parks. I'm not sure what's politically correct" So I told him that he was NOT politically correct and that he was blatantly breaking the rules but hey - he has to look at himself in the mirror every day. That was all I said and the entire post gets pulled - but they can let someone go on and on (even calling people names) about leggings?! I'm so done with that group. End of rant. Thanks.
Up next - Maybe an explanation, a new do and FP picks!
