Excuse me, but I don't camp... A PTR - Page 9 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Just joining in here and excited to hear all about this adventure! We are not campers at all either! We have had 2 hurricanes that left us without power for a week or more and we basically "camped" in our living room, and decided then we had no interest in "roughing it" for a vacation! Although someone might be able to twist my arm of it occurred in Disney!

Won't it be funny if this is true?!

Since I've decided to stop planning (lol, yeah right), I think I have started to overthink everything. I keep trying to make plans, and then I do, and then I have to go break them because I promised not to make plans.

They help. It's weird because after the first one, it rockets me back to life and then I overdo it, get tired, and have to recover.

No, I didn't. However, I plan on going to one this week to see it.

Yeah, it was nice. I was totally excited, then it was a bit of a downer to learn the TIW card expired.

That's the only reason I am trying this is because it's in Disney and if it doesn't work out I am sure I can find a room somewhere!
We take really luxurious vacations whenever we do go on non Disney vacation which is very often and we were all looking for something a little different. I go mods or deluxes when I go to Disney because we usually stay there for a long time, but since I work for the state in mental health I get a lot of time off. So, we do a lot of short vacations like Key West, St. Augustine, Savannah, Montreal, Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec and we'll throw our entire budget into the resort. So, we're all just looking for something a little different and it was either this or a cruise. Somehow, I lost when it came time to vote

I fell to the bottom of the page so I guess I better get to writing!
We. started. packing.
Can you believe it? We're just over two weeks away and I already started packing our stuff. I have Tuesdays off and Monday night some more boxes from Walmart came (I swear the UPS man hates me) and I just had the need to start organizing it all to see what it would look like all packed up and how much space it would take. So, hubby and I got out the space bags and we packed our pillows and bedding. We wanted to pack Mikey's, but I have to get sheets for his air bed and I thought I had a spare comforter in our closet. When I opened the storage bin, it turns out it was two air beds and a sleeping bag. Nuts! We decided he didn't need a full comforter and would be ok with a blanket. We're going to use his blanket from his bed, I'll get a new sheet set and since he is going to be with a friend, he'll already have his pillow and blanket on him, so nothing for me to pack for Mikey. I've ordered the last little tidbits I think such as a power strip, bug zapper, and Mikey's air mattress.
I think hubby packed another space bag, but I can't remember what was in it. I just know we have two packed and ready to go. Our space bags came with this neat storage container so the bags are in there and we can fit in two more for our clothes.
I've ordered 100 pins off of Amazon... AND THE BIGGEST NEWS...
We're scheduled to take a tour of Grand Floridian to purchase DVC points!

Congrats on the BOG ressie and the surprise travel money! How awesome about the potential DVC points
This was mentioned before, but I think I saw some pinwheels at the Dollar Tree earlier this month. The only other place I can think of might be a toy store or garden center.
You mentioned getting sheets for the air mattress... I thought I'd mention.... We have found that air mattresses don't do well with fitted sheets.... We use flat sheets and tuck them under.... This works best for us...

This air mattress says it fits fitted sheets so that's why I got it, but I think I will pack an extra flat sheet just in case. Thanks.
This trip is difficult for me in many ways. Besides the anxiety of camping, it's doing Disney in a way I've never done before. I mean, think about what most of us do. We come up with a budget, decide on a resort (with a roof), plan our park days, pick ADR's, make fastpass+ selections, and plan other odds and ends. This trip is nothing like what we or most people on this board usually plan. So, I kinda feel like a pioneer here.
I keep trying to do what I am used to doing, such as making ADR's. Jay has to come in and remind me, we're not doing a lot of dining on this trip. That forces me to cancel reservations that I struggled to get! It's my fault though, I was warned.
Dining Plans:
I said I wasn't going to plan, but I kinda have to because if I don't plan our meals then I won't know what to buy or how much to buy. So, after much consideration and advice this is what I have so far:
Aug 9: (4:00pm tour at the Red Roof Inn for DVC purchase)
Breakfast on the way to WDW. (you will learn breakfast is a must in our household for hubby)
Lunch: Publix subs which I will grab when we're out shopping
Dinner: Trails End buffet
Aug 10: (we have to stick around the resort today. Mikey will be dropped off by the family he is in Orlando with for the weekend)
Breakfast: Trails End buffet. (we usually go out on Sunday mornings)
Lunch: cheddarwurst brats
Dinner: steak cooked at Campsite with bacon potatoes
Aug 11: (Mikey has horseback riding)
breakfast: cold breakfast
lunch: open
dinner: salmon with lemon and dill butter sauce and broccoli
Aug 12 (planned MK day)
breakfast: cold breakfast
lunch: Be our Guest
dinner: counter service at either MK or DTD
Aug 13:
breakfast: trails end buffet
lunch: french bread pizzas
dinner: lemon pepper chicken in foil
Aug 14: (Guys have archery in the afternoon)
breakfast: cold breakfast
lunch: hamburgers on pretzel rolls
dinner: Raglan Road at DTD
Aug 15:
breakfast: cold breakfast
lunch: open to campsite or park
dinner: Pork tenderloin
Aug 16: (time to go home )
breakfast: Trails End
lunch/dinner: May decide on early Raglan Road ADR before the sad trip home.

Oh forgot to tell you.... I survived our camping in the cabin this past weekend! We had a lot of fun fishing, frogging, & hanging around the campfire. I'll definitely do the cabin again!
