Mom & Me, Work & Fun PTR (Sept. 7-14, 2013) - Page 9 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We are doing okay so far, and we start with a light load. I'm hoping we will be done today around 10:30am. Then the kids can go to the pool this afternoon for "PE"
PE is important! It was one of my favorite subjects
PE is important! It was one of my favorite subjects
It is! We use the treadmill, the trampoline and the pool while it's open for PE. The pool closes for the winter on Sunday so we have to get as much in as we can.

It's nice having everything organized, makes life easier. We had a pretty good day, although it was not meltdown free (and it wasn't the kid I expected either).

I think the plans are going to help me make sure I don't miss anything. I was thinking of just winging it, but that probably would have been a disaster.

Glad that you at least are on the road to find out what is going on with Hunter! Prayers for you and your family until you find out totally!!
Hope the kids have a great school year!!
I'm actually wondering if I should buy another memory card for my camera! I haven't decided if I'm going to take my laptop, it is really slow and would be hard to transfer pics to.
I'm happy to finally have a direction of what could be wrong with Hunter. Up to this point it was a lot of "well, that test showed nothing", it's nice to have a plan of attack.
I will start with how the first day of homeschooling went. I woke up at about 5:30a and stayed in bed reading for about 25 minutes. Then I took the puppy out, putting her in her kennel afterwards. I did my 20 minutes of Pilates, then got my shower. I woke the kids at 7a. They were a little slow moving, but were ready by 8:30a and we got started.
We started with Bible Class which we just added this year (I didn't want to put in the expense for 1 semester last year). The kids really seemed to enjoy it, but when we were done everyone was in tears. We got talking about our dog Bruno that passed away in November and it made us all a little sad. But we moved on and I let the kids pick from their lesson plans what to work on. Hunter did great and sped through his lessons and was done at 10:30a. Shana, however, got mad when I caught her using a calculator on some basic math problems and then had a temper-tantrum. I had to put her in a corner facing the wall for about 40 mins. Then she calmed down, finished her math and was done by 11:10a. Not bad, but hoping we can avoid the meltdowns tomorrow. The kids did go to the pool for PE this afternoon, but it was getting stormy and they came home 1 1/2 hours early.
Today's Update: Planning My Park/Resort Days Part 2!
Wednesday Sept. 11th
- Head to the Animal Kingdom at 8:30a. Hoping to get all of the pics. today.
- When done we will drive to AKL-Jambo and take pics there and then either drive or catch the shuttle over to Kidani.
- We will drive to the All Star Resorts and get pics at all three. These scare me a little because I've never been there and the area looks so huge!
- We will then head to Coronado Springs (which also looks huge!)
- I don't think this will take the whole day and we will either visit places we haven't hit or just have some fun. Our Dinner at Spirit of Aloha is at 8p.
Thursday Sept. 12th
Since I should have already taken all the pics of Future World I wanted a later start at Epcot this day.
- We will hit Art of Animation about 8am
- Followed by POP Century. POP is not my favorite place, just due to DME pickups, every time we stop there on the way to the airport we almost miss our flight.
- I will try to squeeze in Caribbean Beach Resort on the way to Epcot, but it will depend on the time.
- We have an 11:30a ADR at Via Napoli. If I have anytime I will try to get pics as we head that direction, but will probably get the remaining countries after lunch.
- I'm hoping that I will have managed to get most of the pics I've listed above and if so we will just spend the remainder of the day/evening at Epcot. We have Dinner at Tokyo Dining at 5:50 and we will probably stay for Illuminations.
Friday Sept. 13th
- The only place I will not have visited at all (hopefully) is Fort Wilderness. I will plan to head there early and get the pics we need.
- After that I will double check to make sure I haven't missed anything and if we have I will go do that. But this is planned for my "have a ton of fun day!"
- Dinner is at Wolfgang Puck at 7:00p
Saturday Sept. 14th
- Since our flight doesn't leave till 5:30p we will have a little time for some fun. We have lunch at Olivia's CAfe at 11:30a. Other than that we will just wing it for this day. I know hard to believe I'm going to wing it at all.
That is my plan of attack for my photo trip! I am glad I sat down and did this, it has helped me think about getting pics near where I'm going to be. Without doing this I may have went to a resort to get pics. not thinking about the fact I would be there for an ADR later in the week. I still go back and forth between "there is no possible way I can get all of this done" and "I will get the pics. done a lot quicker than I expect". I'm hoping it leans toward the faster than I expect. But I plan to just make this trip about enjoying Disney without necessarily focusing on attractions. I just hope I get enough enjoyment out of that.
Next Update: ?????
I'm not really sure what is up next, if you have any suggestions of something I'm missing, I'm all ears!

Well, it just shows that no matter how much you plan, it's always what you don't plan for that happens! All ready for a meltdown from Hunter, but it's Shana this time! Sounds like it wasn't too bad, though, and she came around and got her work done. Good first day!
I can't think of anything you're missing for the trip-- your plans seem pretty much complete. I hope the weather is good so you don't miss any time. I'm sure taking photos you will end up noticing more of the details than ever before.
Overall it was a good first day, I hope today went even better. Your plans look pretty solid to me. I wish I had built in time to go over to Art of Animation back in May. I had intentions of going over there, but we never made it.
for a no meltdown school day tomorrow. More great plans!
Still had a little snit today, but no meltdowns.

It is so true! I think sometimes I let my guard down with Shana, because her moods go more in spurts. She has been doing really well lately and it was very unexpected. It wasn't too bad and she did finish up.
I have made a change based on a Limited Time Magic event that we will be hitting. So that will be my next update.

Your trip is not too far away!
It was a pretty successful day, and I am really looking forward to the curriculum this year. Even thought we did 1 semester last year, it is nice to start in the beginning and really be able to delve into everything.
It is so close I can already taste the Dole Whip!

It was a good first day and I'm sure we will get over the humps. It will help once the public school is back in session. I think the kids don't like doing school when all the other kids are not. But the school starts next week.
I am really looking forward to visiting lots of places we haven't been. Of all the resorts, we have only been to: Animal Kingdom Jambo & Kidani, Beach Club, Boardwalk, Contemporary, Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Shades of Green, Wilderness Lodge & very little of the Yacht Club (only went in the back to use the restrooms). We have only stayed at AKV- J&K and BWV. So I will be seeing lots of places I've never even set foot on. We usually only visit resorts if we have an ADR there.

Wow! That's a plan. I agree with all you need to do, a good plan is the way to go. Can't wait to hear the rest. That had to have taken some time to figure out.
Great plans! Glad the first day went Ok, even with the meltdowns... Hope that's the end of them.
I know it will not be the end of meltdowns. With all their different challenges it's pretty much a given. But I hope it's not a daily occurrence.

It really is a bit intimidating, but I don't think taking the pictures will take as long as I am thinking. I walk at a pretty steady pace and I'm pretty good at taking fast pictures. I will probably try to go fast early in the day, so I have more free time in the afternoons/evenings. It was a bit of work to figure out, trying to figure out how to get all the resorts in was interesting, especially without having to drive too much out of our way.
