Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Just caught up. Glad to hear the flight went well. I must tell you I loose a pair of glasses every time I go to Disney, at least they are not prescription. I am glad you found them.

I am all caught up!
I am so glad that your flight went well Darlene! I know you were nervous about flying, but it sounds like you did very well!
Isn't Hoop Dee Doo fun? We love that dinner show! Looks like you had great seats!
I am so happy that you were able to go to SeaWorld! 79 pennies! That is a lot of treasure hunting!
Isn't it crazy how we can lose something and look all over for it, and then to find it (after all of the frustration), almost in front of our eyes!
I am glad you found the sunglasses!!

Whew, your first two days make me a little exhausted just from reading about them!

I understand about the sunglasses, or at least the need to locate them. My eyes are seriously sensitive to light and I can't survive in the parks without mine. They're prescription as well, so if I lose them I'm out of luck.

Lenny's attitude about things reminds me so much about my father in law, which is why I'm not looking forward to him coming on the trip. It really does seem like it's more often the guys that flip out over things too easily and take the fun out of the day oh-so-quickly. I hope we find out that he finds his Disney spirit and becomes less cranky and more fun!

Hopefully, the next time you go, service and moods will all be in sync for the positive.
Oh, and as for the sunglasses....oh my! I hate it when things like that happen. When I'm searching and searching and then they were in an obvious spot all along. I hope that didn't make Lenny more irritated. I'll be waiting to read more.
Yes, some things were better at Ohana's but with Lenny's mood that day I'm really starting to wonder if the restaurant is just bad luck for us. Right now, if I can get away with it (meaningAbby doesn't want character meals), I'm really leaning towards not going back again. I can't decide that until when we're going back again. Actually finding the glasses gave him such a HUGE sense of relief. Despite what we went through, he was far, far happier than I was to find them. Yes, I was happy but not like he was. I think he smiled the entire way back to Disney.

Not worth it for the food either. There are other places that have better breakfasts with Character interactions and I can always find my Stitch some place else!
I know how you feel about the prescription sunglasses! Mine are a couple years old and should be replaced, but the thought of spending the money... yeah, not "THERE" yet!
Ready for the next installment when you are!
I'm glad to see it hasn't only been us that hasn't had great service at Ohana's. I go only for Abby and who knows, the next time we go she might not be into the character meals anymore (especially since we do prefer the lunch and dinner meals much better than breakfast). If that's the case, this is the first meal getting dropped. Yeah, I'm not "there" for replacing my glasses. I would have if need be but the needs not there anymore - thankfully . Hopefully today I'll get to the next installment.

Your next day at SeaWorld sounded wonderful. I have to ask you about the Disability passes - I did not know that had those, we purchased a regular ticket for our son in 2008 so I would love to know more about them and were you found the information as I want to go back in 2013. I am not surprised at all that you were able to collect so many pennies, you are Superb at that!
Sorry you lost your sunglasses and that Lenny was such a butt about it, but glad you found them in the end. BTDT as well.
I am happy that your experience is at O'hana's was much better this time but sad that Lenny ruined the experience for you. I hope that after all that the rest of your day was much better. Looking forward to finding out.
Thanks for all your comments. Sorry you've had your BTDT moments - they happen - but it does help to know others have been in the same boat as us.

For Sea World, I had heard (on here I think - I think it might have been in one of my posts ) that they have disability passes but because I didn't quite get it, I emailed Sea World. They said they had them and I could get them at Guest Services - which didn't help me too much. So what I did when we got to Sea World was I made sure Lenny and Abby went through the line with me and once I got to the window, I told the employee I needed 2 disability passes and 1 regular pass. The disability pass, the day we went (who knows, Sea World could change it) was half the cost of a regular ticket and I was told they are NOT exchangeable for the 2nd day free pass (in my email, not the employee) - the deal they have going on right now. I'm not sure how true this is or not as the actual ticket didn't indicate this and we didn't try for it as we didn't have the intention of going back a second day anyway.

I have a relative like that, he is such a great guy, but oh boy ... watch out when he is irritable
sorry that you had to deal with it on your vacation. Hope his mood improved as the time went on. I have wanted to do the Ohana Breakfast to see Stitch... but have yet to do it. Looks like Abby enjoyed it though. Loving your trip report and can't wait to read about some Disney Park adventures. maybe that is what Lenny needs.. a couple spins on Its a small World to put the magic in for him.. looking forward to more adventures... and hang on to the those sunglasses
I was thinking the same for the glasses - that they were either sitting on a penny machine or that they had dropped out of my pocket (where I should know better than to put them) when I bent over to find my phone in my bag. Maybe your relative and Lenny are related because yes, once he gets going he just keeps going (like the energizer bunny ). Your last line made me think of BTM - "Hang on to your hats and glasses cause this here's the wildest ride in the wilderness." And you'll just have to stay tuned. I promise our Disney adventures will start in the next installment.

I'm glad you found the sunglasses, but sorry you had to waste time driving to Sea World and going through the process there! That totally sounds like something that would happen to me too!

Can't wait to hear what your first full Disney day brings!
Thanks. Lenny I don't think can put himself in other peoples shoes. If he could, he'd be putting himself in Abby's shoes to see how it affects her (she gets really upset) and I would hope he'd stop. I'll be posting about Disney later today so be on the lookout.

Glad to hear that the glasses were found but sorry that the whole issue caused Lenny to be so Grumpy that what should have been a better meal for you wasn't I think everyone goes through one of these moods during the trip which just rubs off on everyone else...we have had our fair share. I am hoping only good moods from here on in.

Yes, they were in the car all along. I definitely hear you on they're "allowed" to be in a bad mood but we're not "allowed" to have a day off - that's the way in this family too. And yes, everything is always my fault. I'll even say that to Lenny's face (which probably never helps) even though he hasn't said it "Yes, dear. I know everything that always happens in this family is always my fault. I'm the only one ever responsible for anything ever happening, no one else ever has anything to do with it." Sometimes it will shut him up (for a minute) other times he'll say it's not my fault but he'll keep going like it is. And if we can't husband bash a little bit here and there, what can we do?

I can even wear them around my neck using one of those "old lady" cords and put them on and off easily. Next time you need a change of prescription, you might want to check them out. For me, they're the answer to the issue of sunglasses and prescription glasses.

Sorry Lenny is being so grumpy. I hope his mood improves for the rest of the trip.
That was actually my plan if I didn't find my sunglasses - look at all the racks and buy a pair of clip ons. I had my regular glasses with me too but that didn't help matters with Lenny and his crankiness.

Sorry your trip started out so rough Poor Abby had had an early Disney meltdown but I'm glad she decided to go to Sea World anyway! My dad used to work at Sea World, many years ago, and we used to go all the time and let me tell you, I've had my fix of Sea World to last me a while
Sorry about Lenny's mood. Hopefully it gets better!
Yeah, I did post a little too much too quick. I won't post so much now - it should make it a little easier to stay caught up. I can see not wanting to go to Sea World if you went alot. For me, since it's been at least 20 years, almost the entire park was different. Stay tuned to see how the rest of our day went.

I was exhuasted the entire trip - and I still am just writing this. As for the glasses, I'm not sure which it's going to become. I know pretty much as soon as we found them, the subject was dropped and not brought up again.

I think it's just the nature of a vacation for something to get lost or misplaced. What you do about it depends upon the value - the glasses had some value to us so we had to try and find them.

Thanks Cam. I think the reason why it created so much tension this year is the fact that I didn't know where I had lost them. At least the last time I lost them, we knew exactly where they were - near the exit converyor belt on the Nemo ride .

Thanks for your comments. I was nervous about the airport and the flight and it went so well that I'm not nervous anymore. I have plans to fly again believe it or not. HDD is fun but it's not a must do for me - I did it for Abby. with the pennies, they do double duty IMO - they're cheap, light and small souvenirs that are easy to bring home and they satisfy our penny hunting obsession. I hear you on the right in front of our eyes - that does always seem to be the way - we skip over the obvious thinking "it's too obvious and if it were there, we'd see it already so let's not bother to look anyway "

Lenny is Lenny. You'll just have to keep reading to see what happens the rest of the day

Our travel day was much more exhausting than our Sea World day but like I mentioned earlier, the whole vacation for me was exhausting this year. As for Lenny, I really don't know why he was so bad this year. Normally once we get to Disney, he does get in the Disney mood but I have no idea what was wrong with him that morning. I hate to say it but it makes me wonder if there really is such a thing as "male menopause." I swear sometimes his moods change faster than mine do

Wow, sorry you had such a rough start to the day. Hopefully this doesn't happen that much more during the rest of your stay. Believe me...I have one of those type of men in my DSF and when he gets going, there ain't no stoppin him. He got so pissed at us at the Baltimore Aquarium that he left the building...without telling anyone... and we spent over 45 mins trying to find him. Add that with chewing us out on the drive there about how he "can't read the road signs and drive at the same time" and we have all decided that no more trips with him like that. He is 74 now and he gets worse every year. I think he feels he is "entitled" to lose it and and not be held accountable for it. WRONG! Love him but, no more trips. Although the road trip ramble is now a common jab at him and he is pretty cool with it.

Back from my long weekend!

Darlene, I admire your patience when dealing with your family. I'm the hot head of the family, guess it's the Irish in me.

I'm also still really happy that the plane trip went so well I was sending you good thoughts all the morning of your take off.

Friday July 22 Part 2

We headed back to the TTC and the MK and we were in the park a little after noon time. Our first stop was the Town Theater to see Mickey and Minnie . It’s so rare to get pictures with the two of them that I wanted Abby to get them. We were told the line was only about 5 or 10 minutes but it was a little longer than that. It was actually moving so slow that I told Lenny that I thinking of running out and getting FP’s for the Princesses. I did do just that and I forget the time I got, but whatever time it was, I knew we wouldn’t have too much time to wait after seeing Mickey and Minnie.

After we left that M&G, we went into the gift shop and looked around. Abby found a back scratcher she liked so we went to pay for it. There was only one problem with that however. I couldn’t find my purse . Then I remembered I had put it on the floor with Mickey and Minnie instead of on the scooter. I went over to the CM who was near the exit door to the M&G and explained what happened and what my purse looked like. He went in to check and brought my purse out to me. I thanked him then took Abby back to the register. While we were there, I was checking out the pins this CM had. I saw two I thought Abby would like - Tinkerbell and Minnie and they looked like they went together - so I encouraged Abby to look at them. She traded for the Minnie one and a Disney flag. I wanted to see her get the Tinkerbell one too so I traded for it.

Once we were done, we only had about 10 minutes to wait before we could use our FP’s. We passed the time by getting some ice creams to eat . When we were done with those, we got in the FP line for the Princesses and we were in and out in literally 10 minutes.

From there, we headed over to the Emporium because Abby loves the Disney babies plush. She already had Mickey, Minnie and Marie but she wanted to see what other ones there are. She ended up getting Tinkerbell, Ariel and Simba and as I was getting in line, I heard Lenny say he was going to the hot dog place to wait for us there. When we were done at the register, that’s where Abby and I went but when I got there, Lenny wasn’t there. I tried calling him and when he answered the phone, I heard he was inside to the left of the register so I took Abby and we went inside. He still wasn’t there so I called him again. This time he said go back to the store where I had actually paid. I finally got there and he was there to the left of that register. He swears up and down he told me that’s where he was gong to wait and that I acknowledged him. I never heard him say that, I never saw him off to the side, nothing - but as usual, it was all my fault. He wasn’t at fault for any of it.

We finally left the store, arguing as we went and then to make such a lovely afternoon better, it was raining. I’m not even sure of the sequence of events. I know Lenny pulled into one of the doorways of Sir Mickeys but I don’t know if it’s because he needed to cover the console of the scooter or if it was to get out the ponchos - I really don’t remember. All I remember was I was totally bull at him and instead of standing out of the rain with him and Abby (and the 20 or so other people taking shelter) I stood out in the rain and got soaked. He and Abby finally left there despite the fact it was still raining and we headed to IASW. Once we got there, again, a bunch of people were trying to take shelter from the rain and totally ignoring the CM’s who told them they had to move as they were blocking an exit. We made our way through that crowd and actually had to make our way through a waterfall to get in the handicapped line. There must be a seam or something between the upper queue and the part of the building where the ramp starts because water was just coming down through there literally like a waterfall.

While we were on the ride, my mother tried to call but even if I had enough reception to take the call, I wouldn’t have. When we were off though, the rain had stopped and we headed over to the stroller parking area by the old Fantasyland Skyway entrance. I found a spot on the cement wall and called home and after a couple of minutes, I felt a couple of drops on my head. I told mom it was starting to rain again and said goodbye to her and put my phone away so it wouldn’t get ruined by the rain. We headed to Peter Pan but it had already started raining again by the time we got there. After our trip to Neverland, we had enough time to do one more attraction before our dinner at CRT. Abby decided she wanted Mickey’s Philharmagic so we that’s what we did
.

Once the show was over, we headed over to CRT to check in. And while I was doing that, I couldn’t believe how many people wanted to either get in for dinner or have a tour of the castle. Yes, you read that right. A couple of people wanted a tour of the castle. They were told that tours of the castle are not given and those wanting dinner were all told the same thing - that reservations need to be made in advance. One guy was really upset and played the "but I’m diabetic card." He was told the same thing however - that reservations need to be made in advance and he walked away. We got checked in and went to wait in line to see Cinderella
.

After a few minutes, we had our picture taken then we went upstairs to be seated. Our server, Gina, was really pleasant and personable . She didn’t hover or anything but she was always there when we needed her for something - whether it be more warm rolls or another glass of soda - and she just added to our dinner experience. I even told the restaurant manager on our way out that we enjoyed having her as our server and the manager said she’d make sure a comment card got put into Gina’s file . The food was really good too. For starters, I got Abby the kids garden salad (because I knew she wouldn’t touch the adult salad), Lenny got the mixed green salad and I got the chicken corn chowder. The soup was good and with the hot rolls we had, they went a long way in warming me up because I was getting cold by that point in time. For the main course, Abby got the chicken, which was suppose to be fried but was baked, with mac and cheese and both Lenny and I got the beef tenderloin with potatoes and asparagus. . Everything was really good and it all disappeared because Lenny had more than his fair share (anyone surprised by that? I didn’t think so). Abby didn’t like her mac and cheese and I don’t care for asparagus so both those items ended up being put on his plate. For dessert both Abby and I got the chocolate mousse which came with both raspberry sauce and chocolate sauce on the side and Lenny got the almond cheesecake. Overall, we all really enjoyed our meal in the castle and despite saying for years I wouldn’t eat there, I wouldn’t hesitate to go back for another meal. And of course there were the characters too (I almost forgot to mention them). Abby loved seeing the Princesses and we saw Snow White, Ariel, Belle in her blue dress and Aurora. We got all their autographs again and not once did I feel they were rushed or inattentive to Abby. And the wishing ceremony was again cute. So like I said, I’d go back again

After dinner, Abby wanted to ride Snow White since she knows the ride is eventually going to get closed.

From there, I wanted to see if we could do the Tiana M&G but because of the on again off again rain, I was told chances were really good she wouldn't be coming out but if she did, she’d be out at 7, 8, and then 9. From there, we headed to Adventureland for the Jungle Cruise. It was just as corny as ever but Lenny felt our skipper - Skipper Robert - was better than some of the ones we’ve had in the past. Lenny said his ad libbing went over better than that of other skippers. I’ve ridden it so many times that unless you’re really, really bad at it, I don’t tend to notice. And after we got off, the only thing I was thinking was "we timed that just right." Everyone was leaving the standby queue and the boats were being backed up to wherever they go because the ride had been closed down. It was just starting to rain again but now it was lightning out as well. After putting on our ponchos and putting up the umbrella, we wound our way to Frontierland and got the new pennies there and as we walked by SM, we noticed that was also closed. All the logs were coming down the drop but they were all empty so it was apparent that Disney was just trying to get people off the ride. As we walked, we just though it was funny to see the people huddling where they could to stay out of the rain while we made our way from Frontierland back to Fantasyland. It was only rain and it wasn’t even a downpour like it had been earlier in the day but people were hiding from it.

Once back in Fantasylnad, we hit IASW one more time and from there, Abby wanted Pooh again. This time Lenny parked his scooter before we got in line and after that, Abby said she wanted to leave the park. We made our way back to Main Street and it wasn’t too bad maneuvering around. Some people were taking up spots for the MSEP but it wasn’t the huge crowd that we would have hit later. We were back at the TTC around 8 and we went back to the room for the night. I don’t remember Lenny and Abby going for a swim so I’m thinking that we just stayed in the room and turned on the tv. I don’t even know what time everyone went to bed but we did at some point in time .

Yes, I was happy but not like he was. I think he smiled the entire way back to Disney.

YAY!!! This is making me think that his grumpiness is on it's way out the door and things are going to be smoother sailing. Waiting to read more!

BTDT but our instance was at Edaville Railroad. Lenny just walked off without telling us and his story is always the same "but you were looking right at me!" to which I always respond "did I acknowledge you in some way? If I didn't it means I DIDN'T see you!!!" Sometimes I wish I could get away with leaving him home but it isn't happening with Abby. If we go somewhere, she wants mom AND dad there. And to bring us his behavior is like starting an arguement so I can't even joke about it.

I hope you enjoyed your weekend. I know someone with an Irish Temper. It's funny to watch her when she gets going - but that's normally because I'm luckily not the one on the receiving end of it. I could tell everyone was sending me good thoughts. After my initial stress, everything just settled down and I didn't worry about anything.
