As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Oh, Melanie, I am so sorry for your friend's loss. I can't even imagine. You definitely made the right choice and it's so nice what you are doing for her. Ugh...to go through pictures and make a slide show, how heart wrenching.
Your trip plans do look good. And one day we want to bring the boys to Boston. Like I said, Tyler is really into Paul Revere since he wrote that paper. Maybe our paths will cross there someday.
We will be in Chicago in 48 hours!! So excited! I know it's just an overnight there... but I really cannot wait!
Today I got some snacks for the trip, as well as two (grossly overpriced) Kai-Lan coloring books for Meri. Tomorrow I need to go to Borders to buy The Hunger Games for the trip.
So... you will hear from me in about 33 hours, posting from the airport here... my plan for Tuesday is that if we get on the 6am flight, we'll go to the hotel and if there's a room ready (oh I hope) we'll shower up and then head into the city for a few hours. If we don't get on the first two flights of the day, we'll go to the hotel and stay there (leaving to have dinner w/ my friend).
The other flights are at I think 10am, 2pm and 6pm (or something to that effect). If the flights stay as they are today, we'll do fine on the early flight. *fingers crossed*
Either way I'll post from the airport to let you all know what's what! I'm super excited, and I'm definitely ready!
The funeral was difficult. We had the viewing, then the funeral, then the graveside service. The viewing and funeral were both open casket, so it was even more difficult. But it was a beautiful service, and I was grateful to be able to support them.
I may post tomorrow night, after packing (shockingly, I'm not even packed yet... it's been such a crazy and emotional week and a half that I just haven't even given it any thought)... just to check in.

Meri is in bed now, and I'm mostly packed. Decided to do one checked suitcase, and then all of our airport / airplane amusements (including both laptops) go in Meri's princess suitcase, which is small and has wheels.
So, all of the clothes, shoes and toiletries are in the checked suitcase (which still is carry-on size), and then in the princess suitcase it's two laptops (well, they're not in there yet, but they will be, lol), some coloring books, snacks, and all chargers. Security is going to have a field day with this bag. I'll let you know if I get a pat-down or body scan, lol.
Ran all of my errands this afternoon. Got The Hunger Games trilogy - figured what the heck, might as well go ahead and buy them all. I'd better like em, lol! Had to buy teacher gifts for the end of school (I'm the assistant room-mom) and then had to drop them off at a friend's house to bring to school, since Meri will miss the last day (Wednesday). I'll carry the first one in my purse and the other two can go in the checked luggage.
Got my iPod fixed at the Apple Store (my iPod touch died on me last night - gave me a heart attack) and now it's syncing all of Meri's fun new stuff for the plane ride tomorrow. I got a new cell phone, so I'll be able to amuse myself on there, lol.
Unfortunately, one small yuck on this trip is that Meri has an infected cuticle / nail bed. Mom has been dealing with it the past 2 days, and it's sort of getting better but it's still not great. We have to soak it 3x / day in really warm salt water, and then mom, uh, drains it. *gag* As of tomorrow this will be my job. Don't worry, I won't take pictures, lol. But I do feel nauseous at the thought. I'm a mom, so I'll do what needs to be done, but I'm just not looking forward to it, and I'm praying the topical ointment and the antibiotic together will knock the infection out so I won't have to deal with it, lol.
I'm all checked in, I've got all my travel paperwork printed, plus my hotel info... and Brad (the new boyfriend) is coming at 430am to drive us to the airport (awwwww). I've got a Criminal Minds marathon ready to start in 28 minutes, and I'll watch that while I clean and finish packing. I love me some Dr. Spencer Reid, even though that show scares the tar out of me and makes me write down license plate numbers and triple lock my doors and windows, lol.
Will likely update from the airport in the morning. *fingers crossed* that we get on the early flight, so we can enjoy some time in downtown Chicago!
