As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

It sounds like a fantastic birthday so far! I just have to know how on earth you stay so skinny after eating all those table service meals. You must have the best metabolism EVAH!
Andrew and I sat at the same table for lunch at CRT. The dad who was below us was none too happy when Andrew accidently dropped his sword on them. That sandwich is huge, but I made the mistake of eating the entire sandwich and then not having room to eat my chocolate cake thingy.
The next resort monorail took forever to come which was a reoccurring theme throughout our trip. It was hard to complain or get angry though when you knew why the reason for their caution. Anyway, we were sheltered from the rain and not pressed for time, so what did it matter?
Once the monorail did arrive, we were soon at the Contemporary and checking in at Chef Mickey’s. For once, the check-in line was not ginormous, so we soon had our pager and our piece of paper to give to the photographer.
Another CM pointed us in the direction of the “plate” but I quickly informed her that I didn’t want to take a picture. My primary reason was because I knew my hair was damp, but I also just had no desire to take a picture in front of a plate. The CM looked very surprised (and a little offended ) and asked for my paper back. I was in the process of leading Mary Devall to the nice cushy leather sofas that now fill the waiting area when she asked why we weren’t taking a picture. I explained to her that I was a little wet, but this girl wanted a picture in front of that plate. I sent her back to the CM to retrieve our paper and the CM turned to give me a smile - - as if to say “I knew you were normal after all.”
I asked Mary Devall if I could bypass the picture but she wanted me in it. And you can probably guess that she wanted to buy it later too.
I call this one "Wet girls in front of plate."
After our picture with the plate, we waited for about 5 minutes before our pager buzzed. We were led to a dining area that used to be part of the Outer Rim lounge and we were led all the way to the window. The funny thing was that this area was completely empty and we were sat all the way in the corner. The wind was blowing furiously and the rain was pouring outside, so it was a little spooky.
Our server quickly came over since we were probably her first table of the evening. Mary Devall ordered an orange soda while I went for my Imagine chardonnay. No characters were in our area, so we headed over to the buffet. Mary Devall selected corn and mac ‘n cheese from the children’s buffet while I just stuck to boiled shrimp which I knew would go well with my wine. This was pretty much what I ended up eating that evening - - except for dessert!

We were just finishing up our meal when our server came by and asked if we wanted Mary Devall’s cake to come out in the upcoming celebration or the next one. I made a big goof when I said the next one because it ended up being thirty minutes later which is a long time when you’ve already eaten dinner.
We spent the time greeting more characters (and greeting some of them 2 and 3 times ) and getting a little “pre-cake” dessert. Finally, finally, finally, it was time for the next celebration and the cake was brought out. Wow! It was absolutely precious and Mary Devall was just beside herself with glee!
Donald Duck came over to wish her a happy birthday followed by Minnie who literally jumped up and down clapping when she saw herself on the cake. Mary Devall was just ecstatic! Our server lit the candles, I sang Happy Birthday again and then Mary Devall blew them out.
She was swiping icing off the cake before I could even cut a piece. The cake was wonderful, but I was stuffed and could barely manage a few bites. Our server brought a box for us to take the cake back to our hotel, but we never ate another piece. I can’t feel bad though because Mary Devall got plenty of enjoyment from it the night of her birthday.
I’m not sure if it actually took a long time or Mary Devall and I were just over tired, but it seemed to take forever for our server to bring the bill. We ended up spending two hours at Chef Mickey’s and I thought I would cry with joy when we were finally set to go!
We took the monorail back to GF and then walked in a light rain to the Sugar Loaf building. Mary Devall had already decided that she was too pooped for Epcot EMH that night (and once again, I almost cried with joy ), so we were just going to relax in the room.
I had received a voice message much earlier in the day giving me our room number so we knew exactly where to go. Our room was on the third floor all the way at the end of the hall, but it wasn’t a long walk at all. After staying at BW and AKL, I loved how none of the rooms were far from the entrance. The room was a gorgeous dormer one with a pretty view of the marina and a spacious bathroom.
I called for our luggage which was quickly brought to us. Once our clothes were put away, Mary Devall and I decided to head down to the lounge - - believe it or not - - to look at the desserts. They had a nice selection, but I only opted for a spoonful of the trifle while Mary Devall wanted a rice krispie treat. Only cordials were out, so I asked a CM for a glass of white wine - - which was my real reason for coming down . . . the trifle was only a bonus. Within minutes, I was holding an enormous glass of white wine - - and in a very beautiful glass I might add. I was liking these people!
Mary Devall and I returned to the room with our treats where I watched a little tv and Mary Devall spent some quality time with her DS. I actually ended up drinking only a couple of sips of my wine before I realized that I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer. Mary Devall and I had the lights out a little after 9 p.m. and both fell asleep quickly. The only thing I heard were the fireworks from Wishes a little later, but that was it until 8:30 the next morning!

That looked like such a great meal!! A private dining area (even if a little spooky), multiple visits from the characters, and then that cake!! It looks delicious!!
Drooling over that yummy looking cake!! Beautiful too. Good work, Mom! I wonder, did they ever seat anybody else in your far-out section at Chef Mickey's? How odd. Glad Mary Devall had a fun dinner though!!
