Our Penny Pressing Plans - the Photo Finish - Page 9 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm just getting caught back up with your TR! Looks like three more great days! I"m like you I chose to remember the good and let the bad go. It also sounds like you are doing very well on finding the pennies.
I am really enjoying reading your TR. Abby seems to be having a great time. Her pix are really good. I have always had trouble on the safari ride. It looks like she did not.

Another wonderful day, despite the rain. I love how Abby's face lights up in the princess photos!! Sorry about the heat, we go every July and I can totally understand where you are coming from.Sorry about the rain too, I am like Abby and don't really care to walk around outside when it's raining.
Thank you. Even though Abby now loves other characters (Mickey and Minnie are tops), I think she'll always love the Princesses And as far as the heat and rain, I expect both when we go. I just think our summer here in MA up to that point had just been so cool, it made it seem hotter to us - and only at Disney do I not let the rain stop me.

Sounds like you had a wonderful day at Animal Kingdom! Loved Abby's safari photos, and it looks like she enjoyed playing the drums in Africa. So glad you were able to get in a boat ride from Fort Wilderness and back again. I know that was one of your concerns before the trip - glad Lenny was able to stay onboard with his scooter. And I'm very amazed at how much you did the next day at Epcot and the Studios! Especially riding TSM and Soarin' later in the day - how long were the lines for those? Did your GAC help you skip over part of the wait? Sounds like your penny collecting is going pretty well, looking forward to the end of the report to see how well you did.
Thanks Christie. We did - and I think it's because we didn't rush anywhere. We took our time and got to where we were going eventually. And maybe more than anyone, Abby occasionally needs something to beat on and if it's the set of drums in AK or in Epcot, then I'll stop every time for her.
The CM on the FW launch was very nice to let us stay on. I didn't expect it, but when I asked, he said something like "if you're not going to the MK, why should we make you get off." It made it easier on us and I appreciated it. When we got to the MK though, there was aonther scooter on there and the CM made everyone go to the opposite side of the boat so the unloading side would raise up enough for her to get off. I just had to chuckle at that, but it worked.
Getting a lot done - it seems like it, but I know for WS, the only countries we did were Mexico, China (I forgot to add that in my report), France and Canada. So that portion didn't take us long because we didn't do much. TSM, because of Lenny's scooter, we go the handicap ramp instead of the stairs, so I know that cut out some of the wait and there were never many people ahead of us in the wheelchair line. I want to say that day, the wait was something like 70 minutes and we were there maybe 30 or so. I'd say we probably had maybe the same type of wait at Soarin (maybe 30 minutes or so).
The pressed pennies - you'll just have to stay tuned to find out about those.

Great pics of Abby with the Princesses and around World Showcase!
Glad you were able to convince Abby to ride Soarin' instead of heading back to the hotel.
Sorry about the CM giving you a hard time taking the scooter into the show (what was she thinking?)
Can't wait to hear more!
Thanks. Had Abby insisted, we would have gone back to the hotel, but I think the thunder and lightning were bothering her way more than wet shoes. They were gone, so I guess that's why she said she'd stay. I wonder what the CM was thinking too - maybe he wasn't?? Lenny got in on his scooter though, so it was all right in the end.

Loved the Abby's photos during the safari - I also have a couple dozen photos taken by an amateur photographer...
And taking pictures with hats is a great idea! I think it came up as an idea for a free "souvenir," but I couldn't really imagine it. Now I understand
Thanks - Abby does do well with pictures. And the hats, I thought it was cute, but Abby didn't want to visit every country so we only did the ones we went to either to double check pennies or because we wanted the attraction inside (that's why so doesn't have more hats on).

Great updates! Love the pictures
Thank you very much.

I understand how you felt with being loaded first, We felt the same way with our DS's wheelchair but just like you no one was upset at all. Everyone just smiled at Jonathon as they got on the bus after us. We only road the bus to MK so as to skip the TTC, the rest of the time we drove. The buses have to load wheelchairs and EVC's first, it is required. But sometimes I couldn't help but feel like a line jumper even though nobody said a word. Sounds like you had lots of fun despite the rain. Keep it coming.
Thanks. Believe it or not though, some of the bus drivers at FW don't let wheelchairs or scooters on first. Coming back from there, the driver must have let on 10 or 12 people before he shut the doors to come get Lenny. I thought it was strange but luckily, nobody sat in the chairs that had to be put up. And for the most part, we have our own vehicle so it's not normally an issue with us (feeling like line jumpers)- this was just a matter of the rain messed up our plans.

Great report so far! I just found it, so it took me a little bit catch up. Abby's pics are amazing!
