As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Sue - I've never tried the French Toast Loaf - I forgot on my last trip. Guess I'll have to put it on my list for the next one. I'm looking forward to hearing about your night at MNSSHP.

Re: Steve, Sue and a Gaggle of Goofy Friends at WDW! :Day 3, part 1!
French Toast loaf is on my list for January! Also, we used the bus from OKW to and from MNSSHP and it was great. We haven't used the buses for the past few years of trips because we've had a rental, but we may use it more or totally in January.
Thanks so much for the update Sue, it's great reliving this adventure. I'll try to do the same very soon!

Great update. Shame about the crane though.
I must get round to trying the famed French Toast Loaf. It sounds yummy!

Re: Steve, Sue and a Gaggle of Goofy Friends at WDW! :Day 3 is done!
MNSSHP....
We were rested and refreshed after our nap, ready for a night of fun. We had talked about going in costume, but had not really come up with anything in time. So I went with my Halloween earrings and flashing trick or treat pin, and Steve went as...well...Steve.
First stop was to get our wrist bands at the gate, and then we were off to dinner at LTT. We had a 4 PM ADR for 12 of us, and with this group, it was sure to be a rowdy time!
We met up with everyone outside. We had Mousketeers, Princesses, a 50's girl and...the rest of us! Bill dressed up as the character's biggest fan!
We were soon seated at a table for 12...yes such a thing exists and they put us way in the back. Hmmm...did the server from the Outer Rim call and warn them about us? Our server was in the LTT version of a costume, and he had a great sense of humor, as well as endless patience! We should have known better than to sit Steve and Bill next to each other. As the characters began to circulate, they started at the Jan/Bill/Steve end. As each character approached Bill, Steve made it a point to tell them that Bill was their biggest fan! this all but guaranteed hugs and squeezes from ALL characters for Bill!
Is that a smile?
Steve had some character attention, too:
We were celebrating many special occassions this trip, including Bob and Barb's anniversary, Barb's birthday, Cheryl and Mark's anniversary, and by default, our anniversary! Barb had her birthday button on, and the server's picked right up on that! Dessert included cupcakes with candles and some really bad singing for Bob and Barb!
It's a good thing they had cupcakes to eat. See, they had the misfortune of sitting on the end of the table. Dessert was served family style, in a big bowl, with the thought of scooping it into individual bowls for all to enjoy. However, the problems began when said bowl was placed within easy reach of Cheryl. Being an ice-cream-o-holic, the rest of us didn't stand a chance!
She grabbed her spoon and dug in! (OK, maybe she did share a little with all of us, but she put up a fight about it! )
When the staff found out if was also Cheryl and Mark's anniversary, they pushed a cupcake in their direction, and this is what ensued:

After dinner, we headed out to the park. It was pretty empty, and we literally walked on to a ton of the rides! Peter Pan, where Mark could be heard looking down over London and crying out "Home!" We decided that Dumbo with no line was too good to pass up:
Who are those people in the HunnyPot behind the cameras?
We rode Snow White, which Steve screamed his best Tara scream through. Of course, we had to do IASW, and they let us have a boat to ourselves! I think they knew better than to let small children in the same vicinity as us!
Mark tries his best to get the sword out of the stone:
Curses, foiled again!
There was some shopping done, also. This is one of my favorite pictures!
Mo and her little blue friend:
A stop at the Tara room, as the Princesses went into their special place!
We did more rides, and did some trick or treating. Some of us did more trick or treating than others, in fact, I believe that my trick or treat bag ended up in other people's hands at some times..
We caught part of the first parade back by Frontierland, and I did manage to videotape the Headless Horseman. We were beginning to get a little tired (well, OK, maybe just the old folks were... ) and we headed down towards Main Street to watch the fireworks. We got a great spot near the tip board, and we watched the last showing of Hallow-Wishes. I took some pictures, they didn't come out as nice as Bill and Cheryl's, but I really really love this shot:
And no, it's not black and white film, but I love the way it turned out!
After the fireworks, Mo, Steve and I got comfortable on the curb while everyone else wandered back towards Frontierland to see the parade. We didn't feel like heading any further back than we were, so we said goodbye and waited for the parade. Again, I caught the headless horseman on video! The parade is such a cool parade, I agree it is one of the best! After the parade, we were supposed to meet up with Cheryl and Mark who were going to give us a ride back to BCV, but we decided to just head out and grab the bus. Mo went back to say goodbye to everyone. We called Cheryl and told her we were heading out. It worked out fine, since she was busy with her favorite donkey and Mark had found Grumpy or had become Grumpy or soemthing like that! We got a bus almost immediately and were soon back at BCV. We were asleep soon after, to get ready for our next day of fun!
Next: Steve drinks a "Minnesota", Stormalong Bay and BOMA.
