As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: The Outer Banks - revisited... Day Five - Updated June 29
Great update, Melissa. I must admit that I have indeed been insane enough to climb the huge hill to the Wright Brother's Memorial In the extreme heat. That is a really neat place though. I loved feeling like I was standing in a part of history.
You can have the shipwrecks. They creep me out for some reason.

I your TR Melissa. Your pictures are great. I really like the pictures of Kitty Hawk. I am related to the Wright Brothers (down the line somehow). The scenery around the OBX is very nice .
Keep the TR comin'

Re: The Outer Banks - revisited... Day Five - Updated June 29
I am really enjoying your TR. We love the Outer Banks and stay in a house in Kill Devil Hills. We went to Hatteras and Ocracoke two summers ago. (And I'm with you, I don't climb the lighthouse. ) That ferry ride is awesome! Your picture of the sunset is gorgeous!
You didn't get any frozen custard in Kill Devil Hills??? Ohmygosh! You are missing out! We hit the custard shop every year. Next time you go, look for it at MM 8.5.
Looking forward to more!

Re: The Outer Banks - revisited... COMPLETE - July 5
Day 7, Saturday June 24, Wow this is what it's like on a Saturday??
We found out that Matt and Dawn had decided they were going to go on back home today instead of waiting until tomorrow. They both had to work on Monday and before they could go home they had to drive to Dawn's mother's house to pick up their little dog Jake (remember the $1600 Yorkie??) So they didn't want it to be late Sunday when they got home.... We decided they were party poopers...
Then Kevin and Lori made the weirdest decision, but I guess we don't have any room to say anything since we're not in their position. They decided that they were going to leave at like 9 tonight so they could drive all night and Audrey would sleep. That way they wouldn't have to stop as much with her. We were like okay, whatever, cool.
SO, our day started with Me and Andy heading on to the beach. A little while later Tommy and Karen came down, and then everyone else joined in. We stayed out on the beach until around 1 and then headed back to the house to have some lunch. Andy and I showered and got ready, Matt and Dawn packed, everyone else stayed out on the beach. After we were ready we said our goodbyes b/c Matt and Dawn were getting ready to leave and we were driving to Hatteras to go the Graveyard of the Atlantic museum.
The whole drive there I kept thinking, "watch it not be open"... well I was right... Apparently this place is a non-profit place and they are still under construction in some areas. They take donations in order to help them pay for the construction. And for some reason they were closed on Saturdays... So we'll have to wait until next time. I figure that's a good thing b/c it means A)They'll be a next time and B)by then maybe it'll be finished and we can see all of it!
As we passed the area of the ferry to Ocracoke we were surprised to see NOBODY in line waiting to catch the ferry. As opposed to our 2 1/2 hour wait 3 days earlier...we couldn't believe you could just drive right on.. Then we walked around the shops at Hatteras Village and we were like the only people in the shops. This place was dead. I mean, I knew that Saturday and Sundays are the turn around days where people leave and people arrive. But I didn't expect it to be so dead.
We drove back to the house to figure out what we were going to do for dinner. Andy's parents were still on the beach so we waited around a while to see if they were coming back up. Kevin and Lori and the baby were sleeping (she had a rough night the night before and they were up late with her). So we killed time, got bored, and finally Andy's dad came up to the house. We told him that we wanted to go out to eat and we asked him what they wanted to do. He gave us some money and told us to order them something and bring it back. So we were off to Dirty Dick's again.
First we stopped off at the pier. We hadn't walked the pier yet and I love to do that. We walked out to the end and this guy was fighting something pretty big... All of a sudden we realize it's a huge ray. Now you know me and my rays. Andy goes "C'mon let's go, I don't want you to get upset" I told him I'd be more upset if I didn't know what happened and had to assume the worst. Luckily that ray was big and smart. He swam up to the pier, swam himself around the pole, wrapping the line around the pole....until it broke. I was glad they weren't able to pull him up out of the water.
We made our way down to Dirty Dick's which is right in front of the pier. We had a few drinks at the bar and an appetizer of she crab soup. Oh man was that stuff good!!! Finally we got a table and ordered some dinner. It's funny b/c while were perusing the menu a song started playing on the speakers. I immediately looked up at Andy and he did the same and we were like "WHOA, it's a song from Robbie's new album" His stuff NEVER gets played over here. So we got a good laugh out of that, sang along to some "Trippin'" and then ordered our dinner. I had the coconut shrimp and sweet potato fries. Andy had the crab fingers we had when we came the other night. Those things are too good!
After dinner we went back to the house. Andy and his dad loaded up all the umbrellas and chairs into our car and took them back to the rental place. When they got back we sat around on the deck with Kevin and Lori and Audrey and then it was time for them to go. Of course before they left, I was holding Audrey, and I felt a big wet area form on my leg...... Lori then started fussing at Kevin for using the wrong kind of diaper b/c they leak easily... Yeah, no problem helping you guys figure that out
So we got everyone cleaned up, including me... and then said our real goodbyes. Once they left it was really quiet. I really missed little miss Audrey! So Andy and I sat out on the deck some more. Then decided to go in and watch some of the Busch race. His parents went to bed early and we started falling asleep on the couch. I think we were in bed by 11.
The next day we were up by 7:30ish. We helped clean up the kitchen and since we had packed the day before we didn't have anything else to do. We went ahead and said our goodbyes and left around 8:30. We wanted to get a head start so that we didn't have to follow them the majority of the way home.
We stopped by a Mickey D's for breakfast....and how funny is this, for some reason I noticed this lady and her little girl....Well, we stopped in Cary, NC (which is like 3 hours from home) and I go into the bathroom, and see the SAME LADY with her little girl that was a little weird.
Anyway we were home by 3:30 on Sunday and ready for a nap! But our trip was a fantastic one that, despite the fact it was a week long, it only felt like a couple of days. We did so much and had so much fun together. It was really a treat to get to spend so much time with Matt and Dawn and Kevin and his family. I remember at lunch on Friday everyone was looking in the gift shop and Karen and I were still at the table....she said to me "I'm so glad that all of you get along so well b/c that would just be horrible if you didn't...but you guys really seem to have fun." And she's right, we do!
So now in April Dawn will become my sister-in-law and we can't wait for that! We have already decided (well Andy and I have) that we need to go back again next summer. Even if his parents don't want to join us (they think it's too far now, I think they're getting old and crotchity) we should still all go. I think we should make it a yearly trip. That's something to look forward to!
Being silly in the toy store... Aarrgh matey!
On the pier
Sitting at the table at Dirty Dick's... I wanted to draw the girl crab that was pictured on the restroom door...
which would be this lady...
My masterpiece
This picture is funny b/c if you hang out with Audrey you realize if you go "HEY" to her she'll go "Heeey" back....and that's exactly what I did right before taking this picture.. I went "HEY" and you can see what she was in the middle of doing
Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed! I know there was some silliness, but there was some educational moments as well
Hope I inspired some of you to give the OBX a try! You'll never forget it!

Re: The Outer Banks - revisited... COMPLETE - July 5
I'm so sorry to see this report come to an end, but at least it sounds like there'll be another ne to look forward to next summer. And you obviously need to make sure that trip includes a Saturday and a Sunday, as those are obviously the best days to be there.
Finally, how to hear "Trippin'" being played - and what a great song too!
