Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Eighteen Again! - Pre-trip
Day Seven – Wednesday, May 31
Breakfast With an Animator (sort of)
I was up before the wakeup call, so I hopped in the shower and started to pack up. Erica woke up when the wakeup call came and I let her answer it. When we were both ready, we headed over to the Beach Club for breakfast. On the way, I snapped a picture of one of my favorite Hidden Mickeys, in the carpet.
We checked in at Cape May and our little buzzy thing went off within two minutes. We were seated and saw that the characters were on the other side of the restaurant, so we hit the buffet. I really enjoyed this breakfast, everything I tried was
OK, so I know I said we’d be acting like 18-year-olds on this trip, but at this character breakfast, Erica and I acted like 6-year-olds. If you’ve never seen the costumes Chip and Dale wear, they have a hole in the seat for the tail to stick out. We both thought this was funny and we became a little obsessed with Chipmunk tushes! I even took a picture!
Who’s the pervert now?
Between our giggling and eating, we did manage to meet some characters!
I complimented Minnie on her fetching outfit and she posed and preened for a bit.
She sat down with us for a minute and I told her it was Erica’s graduation celebration, and she made a big fuss over her, which Erica enjoyed. Minnie is Erica’s favorite character, second only to Eeyore.
Next to visit us was Chip, with his “unique” swimsuit. Hey, we’re 6 years old for this segment, remember?
I’m not sure why it looks like I have gold glitter on my forehead
Next to come along was my favorite, Goofy. He was feeling just as silly as we were and had us cracking up. You can see how hard Erica was laughing in the photo.
After I snapped the picture, Goofy stole a “sip” of Erica’s OJ! I was laughing pretty hard when Erica got my pic, too!
Last to visit our table was Dale.
When Dale went to the next table, we giggled about his butt again (6, remember?) and Erica decided that she would draw his picture on the table. She’s quite a talented artist, so the picture she drew, which took her literally 3 minutes, came out good! I had to call Dale over to get a look at it, and when he saw it, he went nuts! He started posing and preening like crazy! He was flexing his muscles and showing the drawing to everyone who walked by! It was so funny! Then he wrote Dale with an arrow pointing to his portrait.
As you can tell, we had so much fun at this breakfast! The restaurant was pretty quiet and we were able to interact with the characters a lot, even getting second visits from them. All the characters were “on” and we were in a silly mood, so it was a perfect match. I highly recommend this character breakfast.
We headed back to our room and finished packing up. When our stuff was ready, I called to get our bags stored. A bellman showed up shortly thereafter and we weren’t too far behind him out the door.
Epcot was our park today, so that Erica could finally ride Soarin’. When we walked out of the lobby, an Epcot boat was just pulling out, heading over to the Boardwalk. Erica decided to wait and I figured I’d walk and we’d meet up at Soarin’.
I got to the IG even before the boat that we’d missed. After getting through the IG, I headed to the Land, getting some flower and topiary pictures on the way.
When I got to Soarin’, Erica was still on her way, so I grabbed a FP for myself. I started to chat with the FP CM, and told him I was waiting for my niece, and he gave me another FP so I wouldn’t have to wait! The standby time was listed at 40 minutes, so one flight would have to be enough.
I went outside to wait for her and when I called her cell, she told me she was just passing the Imagination building. We met up and decided to hit Figment first. I managed to get a few good pictures in there.
Next we headed to HISTA and then spent a lot of time playing in the Image Works. By then our Soarin’ FPs were ripe, so we headed back over to The Land. Erica’s never ridden Soarin’ before and was looking forward to it. I’ve ridden it many times before and was looking forward to it. For some reason, I was nervous that Erica wouldn’t like it, but I needn’t have worried, she loved it! I was sorry we wouldn’t be able to do it again, since by now the FPs were being distributed for later than we’d be in the park and the standby line was insane.
Erica was wanting a nap (wimp!), so I suggested we head over to Ellen’s Energy Adventure (I enjoy this attraction, but it is a good nap spot, ya know ).
I enjoyed the attraction and Erica enjoyed her nap, but one of the dinosaurs saw Erica sleeping and spit on her and it woke her up.
Up Next: It Can’t Be Time to Go Home Already!

Re: Eighteen Again! - Pre-trip
Sharon - Glad you're back! CM was the first character meal we did. We went in Sep '92 - I think for dinner and it was great! Both the food and the interaction. I haven't been back since, but it sounds like I should go again.
Glad Erica liked Soarin'. It's another ride I can't wait to try this fall!
More please.................
