As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Two go wild and go west! THREAD 4 - UPDATED 6/4!
Sunday 23 April – part one: living the high life in concierge!
The plan today was to be up early, check out and check back into concierge. The reason? We had no breakfast booked today and I wanted to take full advantage of breakfast on offer in the concierge lounge.
We were seen by the same Cast Member who had checked us in two days earlier and she remembered us. We started to experience concierge service at once. When we were called forward before those in the regular line. I like this! We were given out keys and left our cases with bell services and headed off to the concierge lounge on the 11th floor of the Sierra tower. As we put in 11 in the elevator, the woman in there said “ooh, you’re going to the restricted area” I felt very special right away.
That continued when we walked into the lounge. What an amazing view laid out beneath us and both parks and Downtown Disney and what a great spread of food with fresh fruit and pastries. There was coffee and tea, although we of course still used our own teabags. We loaded up and took our seats at a table by the window and just enjoyed our food and the view. As Mark said it “I could get used to this.” Well maybe not considering the amount of points it takes to do this in Disney World, but I know what he means. It sure is a nice treat.
When we had finished filling our faces, we took the concierge elevator down and headed to the monorail station. Even though it was running a limited one way service to Tomorrowland, I was determined to do it at least once during our trip. I knew we would have a wait, but as we lined up, I was sure that we would make it on to the next monorail. Well, we should have done, but we didn’t. Something to do with the Cast Members not filling it before it left. It could’ve taken about another 10 people and that would’ve included us. Very annoying.
Still we finally made on and it was a fun trip, but hardly the “scenic route” that they promote it as. Perhaps it’s more scenic when the whole line is running, but this one doesn’t have much to offer. From here though, you can see how close the development from outside still is to Disneyland. That’s how I remember it from my first visit here 20 years ago.
We walked through Tomorrowland, past the Matterhorn Bobsleds, and into Fantasyland…
Then Mark said those words I never though I’d hear him say “Do you want to go on It’s A Small World?” Well I’m not going to say no to an offer like that, so off we went with Mark firmly putting his fingers in his ears most of the way round.
Again I found this ride much more open inside, compared to its Disney World counterpart and I’m sure that the first scene is different as well. I don’t remember Disney World’s version ever starting with a snow scene.
Next: how long is that line?

Re: Two go wild and go west! THREAD 4 - UPDATED 6/4!
Sunday 23 April – part two: how long is that line?
When we got off the ride, the clock started to chime and I was delighted to see the doors below it open and a heap of Small World characters come out – it was so cute!
Having done that, we walked into Fantasyland and Mark suggested getting the railroad, so we did and we caught the best part of the ride, taking us through the Grand Canyon and dinosaur diorama. Unfortunately, trying to get photos of it without using flash, as they instruct on the train, was very hard and the results weren’t great.
We got off at Main Street and I noticed that there were people gathering around waiting for something. I wish I had realised what sooner, as I would’ve moved myself forward, nearer to the front of the crowd. It was the opening ceremony for Disneyland, remembering Walt and how it all started. The characters came out and were joined by the Mayor, who then said we would hear Walt’s words from 50 years ago, spoken from this very spot. I couldn’t help but tear up as we listened to them. To think that once Walt had been here to open this park, his dream, and the only one that he lived to see open was quite a feeling. It was a beautiful ceremony and very touching.
Still wiping tears away, we headed over to the California Adventure and it took us about 10 minutes just to get in. I knew this was going to be busy, but I really wanted to see it. We made our way in fairly quickly – just getting a few photos on the way!
We made it to Monsters Inc, by around 10.15. I knew at once that the line was bad and sure enough, it was showing 45 minutes and the line was way past that point already. Where we were would probably be an hour’s wait. I figured we’d have to try back later. I spoke to a Cast Member a few minutes later to see if it had a Fastpass and it doesn’t. When I asked why, he told me because if it did, then by now, it would have a two hour wait, as they’d have to let Fastpass holders in too. True, but it would also mean that I’d have a Fastpass and I’d be able to get into this ride.
Still very annoyed at how quickly the line had built up, we walked back towards the entrance and got some photos on the way.
We decided to backtrack to see Turtle Talk with Crush, only my parents rang just as we were about to go in, so knowing that I always chat to my mom for ages, I sent Mark to get us Fastpasses for Soarin’ and settled down. I was right, Mark got back just as I finished up, but not before he had missed Belle coming out for a character greet. I just caught her as she walked past me.
When Mark got back, he told me things were just as mad there and there had been a huge line for Fastpasses, so with great trepidation, we went in to see how bad the wait was for Turtle Talk. I was expecting it to be mobbed, but it wasn’t and I could tell from the amount of people waiting that we would get in and the next show was in 15 minutes, so in we went to wait.
When we got in, we got a surprise. Instead of the bench seating in Disney World, you get individual chairs here. Apart from that, this was quite similar, although there was no appearance by the bikini, but we did have a couple of great questions, particularly the dude who asked “how much are Disney paying you to be here to do this?” Crush’s reply? “Disney who?” The dude wasn’t fazed by that. He then asked if there would be a sequel to Finding Nemo and told Crush that he had the DVD. That threw Crush. “DV what? Now you’re freaking me out man!” Very funny!
