Back to Bath and my donkeys… COMPLETED 7/25 - Page 9 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The seaside is so pretty. The shed looks like its about to go over the edge. I've seen things like that around here. Lake Erie is the shallowest of the Great Lakes and the lake's water level is higher than normal. When we have storms the cliffs get really eroded. The beach at the end of my street is gone and the cliff is falling into the lake. The beach a few miles a way is growing. I guess the sand has to go somewhere.

Just getting caught up again! Glad you enjoyed your day at the spa and your time with Sean and Anne and Sara! Your pictures from Sidmouth are beautiful!
Some great photos along the beach and the cliffs surrounding them. I would not live or rent anywhere near a cliff as all you need is one big storm to do a lot of damage! I hope the owners are in the process of getting a new shed. May be a good idea to have it built a little farther back this time!
One thing to add as being in the states we are so spoiled with the white sand beaches! There is no way at all, that I could get used to going to the beach for a great day and having to walk over rocks all day! No way in hell will I do that and if I want to take a swim! It's not like you can put a blanket on the beach and relax with some food and beverages. Time to go elsewhere with this as you need a better fix with the beach! I'm sure this is better terrain elsewhere with the beaches in the UK....at least I hope, as can't imagine them all being like this with the rocks! Not the best of places for your ankle Cheryl!

Neither would I!

If I was them, I wouldn't even bother, as eventually the cliff would be eroded away back to wherever they put it. One day, I suspect the houses on that road could go. Hopefully that's many years away yet...

We have a lot of beaches like that, but not that many in the south of England. There's a stretch where I used to work in Kent and it attracts a lot of people whenever the weather is hot, as it's an easy day trip from London and a lot of the surrounding beaches are pebbles, which as you say, aren't that great. I do like the fact that we have a variety of beaches here, it adds to the scenery.
Saturday 16 June – part seven: what a beautiful, historic place
We walked back towards the car through a recreation park called the Ham…
… and called into the tourist information centre here to pick up some leaflets about more of the attractions around here, as we seem to keep coming back on such a regular basis for some reason. Can’t think why…
We made our way out of Sidmouth….
We arrived at our bed and breakfast place for the night and my goodness, what a beautiful, historic place it was…
As we pulled up, Kim, who runs the property with her husband (I want to say Steve?), came out to greet us and took us inside. It’s even more amazing inside with so much character to it.
We settled up the rest of our check, as I’d only paid a deposit when I’d booked, and then they showed us to our room, which was small, but very nice.
Now this bit did stick a bit in my throat – they knew we were interested in a king sized room, but told me that we couldn’t have one for only one night. The minimum limit is two nights. Ok, fair enough, but to then discover that the king sized rooms were free and there were only three rooms taken over this weekend out of 10 made me wonder why they couldn’t give us the king sized room. Kim showed us one of those when we left and it was lovely for only Ł10 more. If she had said “usually, we only do this for two nights, but as we’re not busy, if you’re prepared to pay the extra Ł10”, we’d have taken that like a shot. As it is, it made me feel a bit uncomfortable, which is a shame, as everything else about our stay here was lovely.
Anyway, we ended up having tea with them in the living room that’s open to all guests to use and with one of their regular guests, Phil, who apparently stays with them all the time, as he visits his mother who lives nearby.
During this time, Kim gave me a book about the Donkey Sanctuary, taking readers through how it operates from dawn to dusk, which was a fascinating read. I learnt that they do have people there all the time, which is what we’d always figured and that where they take all their donkey dung – there was a photo of it all piled up. Nice!
We had some downtime in the room, although not very long, given that it turns out there’s no Wi-Fi here. I hadn’t even thought to ask, I just assumed everywhere had it these days. Apparently not. Sadly, another big black mark against this place. It’s perfect if you want to get away from it all, but we generally don’t.
What an interesting place, I like the look of the dining room. Too bad about the king size bed, they lost out on an extra 10. I am with you, if there is no internet, its a strike against them.

To be honest, both those things were strikes against them. I don't think we'd stay there again with no Internet and having to stay two nights to get a king size room.
