The Surviving Deployment Trip Report, Updated 10/18 COMPLETE!! - Page 9 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I was at a friend's house, and she lives in a brand new neighborhood with houses being built around her. There was a port-o-potty next to her driveway. A HUGE storm rolled in with 60+ mph winds and blew the potty over, and it hit my car. Lovely! Construction guys were there picking things up and talked to me and said they'd call their manager about fixing the car. I hope it works out.

I just found your TR I it so far! First many thanks to you and DH for your sacrifice for our country!
Your DD is so talented I love her drawings and the idea for the autograph book! Now if only I could draw! The Tink costume looked so cute on her and you deffinatly did a good job fixing it I couldnt even tell!
The bear for DH is so cute Im sure he will love it!
Oh and the porta poty... How strange is that! Good luck with getting your car fixed!
Cant wait to hear more!
sounds great i went in dec with just my son age 13 and we had a blast by ourselves!!!!!!! Please thank your husband for his service for our country and he will be in my thoughts and prayers he comes home safe
Just found this Tr.... DD has wonderful God given talent, that I am glad to see you encouraging her....Does she send her sketches to DH? (I know I loved getting mail when I was deployed) Now I kind of know how my family dealt with things when I was deployed and had to leave my 9 month old home at the time that was so very hard to do! (Desert Storm) and they would go to parks and send me pics.. Glad all of your planning is "practically" done.... Great plans and ADRs!!!! ... Great that your cousin can spend some magic with you!!! .... and I'm sorry, but being honest - I first laughed at the port- a- potty falling on your car... I had an image in my head like in the Wizard of Oz and instead of a house it was a potty falling on your car... - Hopefully the contents weren't spilled.... But I am glad that no one got hurt and that the workers will get the car taken care of.... Can't wait to read more....

Thank you for serving! I know it's hard, and you do what you have to do to make it through these deployments. Yes, we have sent sketches to DH. We send a ton of mail to him. It's sad you had to leave a baby at home. Our "baby" is 14, so it's not like there's a whole lot of changing going on like a baby.
It was an HONOR to serve my 17+ years - and I feel Blessed to have been able to do so -through the good and the bad of it - AND be able to return home to family and friends!!! Doesn't this forum help so much.... You can meet really nice people that honestly care about what's going on and be POSITIVE, supportive or a kick in the butt when needed... It's like having an extended family.... You and you're daughter are so very special, and your DH is LUCKY to have the support and love that he obviously gets from you 2!!! Oh I just know he will love & treasure the pics and his "inclusion" in the vacation.... Did you look into the Shades of Green for their rates?? But since it is NOT Disney - I wonder if you'd still be entitled to free dining since it is on Disney property???

Yes, I love this board! Lovely, lovely people.
I think my DH will like how we include him in our trip, too. It's hard keeping it a surprise.
Shades of Green costs more than a value plus the free dining wasn't included. It made my choice easy. When we go in 2010, we may decide to try SOG or a moderate since my DH will be with us. I didn't want to stay above a value without him.
I have seen storms with strong winds like that. You never think the winds are that strong. Hope they come through and fix your care. My DD is out at Ft Bliss with her new baby while her DH is deployed in Iraq. Its nice to hear about others who are waiting for there spouses to come home as well. When he comes home next year, we plan to take a big family vacation to take them to WDW to celebrate the baby's 2nd birthday and his first trip. We are planning sometime in Nov/Dec. When are you planning.

Awwww, bless your DD's heart! At least our baby is 14. I have a friend at Bliss. Her DH is a chaplain, too. Yes, I'm patiently waiting. Tuesday is our halfway mark.
Well, I've just learned that we will be PCSing by August! (We just moved here in September.) It depends on where we are stationed as to if we get to go to WDW or not. I was planning on September for free dining (hopefully). But, if we get stationed in Germany, Italy or Japan like we would like, we'll nix WDW and go to Disneyland Paris or Tokyo. Priorities, right? Got to get a Disney trip in there somehow. If we are stationed in the states, it depends on when we move. So, everything is up in the air. Oh well. That's just the way it goes in the Army.

Ohh Laura - I don't know whether to be happy or sad that you might not be going in September. (I was really looking forward to meeting you and your DD.) But I'll be happy if your new move takes you all somewhere you'd love to be - and I'd be especially happy if you got to see Tokyo Disney or Disneyland Paris.
Love the Tink costume, your DD is adorable. Now a port-o-potty falling on your car is definitely an original story, not one you hear everyday. Hope that the construction company takes care of the repairs.
Oh my goodness, Italy, Germany and Japan would all be amazing places to be based. If it's the first two, I could see a meet coming up - and it's the latter, I will be so jealous, as Tokyo Disney is just the most amazing Disney resort.
