So you thought we canceled? (A Sept. PTR) - Page 9 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Just found your PTR ... So glad to be able to follow again! I am glad you are able to go to Disney with Briana ... How exciting (although I am a tad jealous). Love the pic of her in your signature ... She is adorable! .... Ok I am off to look at your old TR and catch up with it!
I LOVE that picture of Briana. We took it at our family reunion, and she was laughing up a storm. Every time I look at it makes me smile.

I don't think I ever really thought about how much fewer moments I would have to do Disney Vacation Prep with Briana around until I realized that I am 34 days out from Disney and I haven't done a single thing to get ready. Normally by now I would be twiddling my thumbs, wishing I had more to do. As it is, I have a very large to-do list and a shrinking number of days in which to mark things off of that list.
Here is my original to-do list. Things in bold still need to be done. Things in regular font are already done.
1. Finish touring plans.
2. Put together travel book (choose picture for cover, print, have bound).
3. Write packing lists.
5. Purchase socks, sunscreen, and first aid kit refills.
6. Purchase travel sized shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, etc.
7. Do Garden Grocer order.
8. Purchase shoes/sandals for Briana.
9. Purchase new shoes for David and new flip-flops for me.
10. Purchase new shorts for me, and possibly tank tops.
11. Figure out what we need in our carry-on and in the diaper bag for the plane.
12. Purchase a check-bag for stroller and car seat.
13. Purchase rain-cover and sunshade for Briana's stroller.
14. Purchase a small clip-on fan for Briana's stroller.
15. Print Mousekeeping Envelopes and put tip money in there.
Yikes! 15 items on the list...at least I've already done 2 of those things, and I'm going to finish up the touring plans tonight and get the travel book printed and bound on Friday. I'll also print the envelopes on Friday. So once those are done I'm down to ten...and a half things. My problem with those ten things is that they all cost money, and money is so tight this year, I'm having to really work hard to find the money somewhere, and also save money for spending while we're on the trip.
I think I'm going to have to cut my spending budget from our usual hundred dollars a day to...60 or 80 dollars a day. That'll cut down on our purchase power, since our dining tips will have to come out of that money, but at least we'll be in Disney. As long as we can buy our annual Christmas ornaments and maybe something small here and there for Briana, I'll be happy. If we cut it down to 80 dollars a day, even, that will save us $140. And $140 is a lot for us right now! And that's 140 dollars that I can spend getting us ready to go on the trip, rather than panicking that we don't have enough money.
I will have to look at the menus for our restaurants and calculate probable tips, and then see what the lowest daily budget I am comfortable with will be. The lower the better, honestly! Our food and snacks are taken care of with the free dining plan and what food we'll have in the room from GG, so the rest is just extra anyway, aside from the tips. I'm babbling! Oh my goodness. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I can live without souvenirs if I have to! Whew. Glad I finally got that out.
David and I were going to bring three outfits per day with Bri, but when I wrote up the packing list, I got the giggles. 21 outfits for seven days just looked ridiculous on paper, especially considering that most days at home she only wears one. So we're cutting it back to 2 outfits per day and bringing quarters in case we need to do laundry.
I have some questions for mommy's (and daddy's) who have traveled on planes with babies before and had to bring things like formula and baby food on board. Do we have to show it to the security people? Are there special rules? Does anyone know if we can bring the blue ice packs onto the plane, or if we will need to bring regular ice, or do without ice at all? I've looked at the website for the transportation whatever security people online, and I feel like it's all sort of vague. Going through security stresses me out anyway, so I am trying to get more concrete information so I don't get any unpleasant surprises at the airport. Anyway...
Oh!
For those of you who have been wondering how my nephew Toby is doing, he is grand! Home from the hospital, getting rid of his feeding tube by the end of the month, off of oxygen three days before he left the hospital, and growing bigger all the time! He'll still have to have another surgery around six months, and another before he is 3, but he's growing stronger every day, and we're cautiously optimistic that all will be well at this point.
That's great news about Toby!! Continued for him to continue growing stronger and stronger.
Good luck getting everything on your list done! It's hard with a little one around, but you'll get there
I haven't traveled with a baby, or formula for that matter. But, I would say it would probably be best to let TSA know that you have it before going through the scanners (especially if it's in liquid form). Last year we traveled with some full sized liquid medicine for DD's allergies and forgot to let them know it was in our bag. It wasn't a problem that we had it, but because they weren't aware, when they saw it going through the xray they got all bent out of shape that we were bringing water bottles on board.
Your plans are coming along great! Sorry, I don't have any advice for traveling with an infant. So glad to hear Toby is doing better! that he continues to make progress!

See, I know TSA has a job to do, but it's stuff like that that makes me so nervous about flying! It's not the actual plane part (well, except my claustrophobia, but that's a whole 'nother animal), it's the "Oh my gosh am I going to be yelled at/pulled aside for additional screening/detained because I forgot to take my ziploc bag with my 3 ounce or less bottles in it out of my bag!" Good grief.

I have no answers for the plane stuff. Good luck getting all your to do list stuff done. Don't stress, you'll do it!
I know I'll get it done...I just was shocked to realize how much I still had to do. Does that make sense? Lol. Pre-baby I would have been done three months ago, except for the last minute stuff, and I would have been twiddling my thumbs.

Loads of and for finishing off that to do list in 34 days, especially in figuring out where money will go.
David and I are going to look at the menus today and work up a daily budget. I know we'll figure it out. Although, we have agreed that next year and the year after we'll be headed to Disneyland to save ourselves some money. We'll be back in the World in 2016.
