Living the dream and remembering the Bagman COMPLETED IN THIS FORUM - Page 89 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Oh YUM!!! The desserts looked absolutely delicious. I don't think I could have chosen just one either! The photos of you guys are cute, good choice in going with the photo package.
They don't use pennies in Canada, so maybe they rounded down to the nearest 5 cents and then wiped out your card! hahaha... I don't know, but that's pretty neat when that happens! What a great way to end your Canadian adventure.

Your whole experience in Niagara Falls looked wonderful and I loved the picture that you bought from the Skylon Towers restaurant! All of your desserts looked fabulous Looking forward to hearing about the next leg of your trip!!!
The view from Skylon tower is really different. You can see for miles.
I was pleasantly surprised by how far you could see. I only really wanted to see the falls from above, but I got so much more than that.

You meals look really good especially the desserts. Sorry you had to drive through that part of town. It takes away from the beautiful park that's just down the street. It kind of reminds me of sections around Disney that are away from the parks. the ones with all the tacky stops.
Yes, I know what you mean - that's a good description.

It was good to see Doctor Who on Christmas. Like you, I never expect too much of the Christmas specials but I'm looking forward to the new season.

I was really pleasantly surprised by the Christmas special and enjoyed it much more than I expected. The sense of humour was spot on with mine and I was laughing out loud in places. I can't wait for the spring now!

That's true, they may well have done that.

Love all your photos of the falls! So beautiful! Did you go underneath where you are standing behind the falls? That is so cool. Your meal looked so lovely and the desert looked wonderful. Love your shots from the restaurant glad you lucked out on a window seat. I can't wait for the rest of your trip.

No, I liked the idea of it, but it would've meant a lot of walking to get to it, and it was so hot, I just didn't feel up to it. Maybe next time...

Your photos of Niagara Falls are just amazing from so different perspectives and you capture them just so well! Your meal in the Skylon Tower looked so good! Sorry, the calamari wasn't that great. Sometimes at various eateries, they do not make them from scratch and may actually be frozen before they cook them! Most of the time they are good, but other times the calamari can be a bit tough on the chewing and the pre made ones will pretty much taste the same. They just need to variate the sauce to make it more interesting. Most good restaurants will make their own for the most part. Love the look of your Creme Brulee as it looks amazing and I'm such a big fan of those!
Regarding my adventures and a couple of bungee jumps, I've done this twice and the adrenalin rush is incredible. Afterwards, on both occasions, I did two things, head to the restrooms and then the bar for a drink to settle the nerves! Last time was 15 years ago and I think those days are over for me as I was in my 30's then!
It is also a busy time of the year for me as I work in a retail food market. Tough to get the updates with my TR. Just wish I could but they will be coming as I enjoy doing these and I know everyone enjoys them! Probably after New Years, but no certain date yet.

That's true and of course then it never tastes as good as fresh.

Ah, the adrenalin rush - that means I definitely couldn't do it with my chronic fatigue. If I have an adrenalin rush, then I'm totally knocked out later on in the day, as I've used too much energy.

Ugh, that is a busy time. My friend works in retail and they're not allowed to take any holiday from about the second or third week of November until the end of January!
Monday 19 September – part eight: eating ice cream with friends
When we got to the border control, we had maybe a three minute wait to be seen, then just got asked when we’d arrived in the US, when we planned on leaving, and if we had any alcohol, tobacco or food with us, and that was it – we were on our way. If only it could be that simple when you arrive on a plane!
Then we were through and were greeted with this…
… and this… I’m not sure this is the greatest introduction to the States, if I’m being honest though?
We were soon off and running…
… and then out on the open road…
Sadly though, it wasn’t long before we hit traffic. The idiot in the black car is reversing back down the slip road!
Thankfully, our GPS got us out of the traffic before too long…
… and we were off again!
When we got to this intersection, we did slow down to a crawl, we think because this road was in such a mess!
Soon we were seeing this…
… and then we arrived at our hotel:
It had a beautiful tree outside with some lovely fall colours…
The reception was very nice…
We checked in, and then checked everything out of the car… and I mean everything!
We headed up to our room, and were relived to find it was pretty large, given we needed somewhere to put everything.
We then spent the next half hour or so packing up suitcases. If you remember, we flew out with three, and had to stick with three, as four wouldn’t have fitted in the trunk of our car. Well, now we could go to four. We packed two that were just under the weight limit, and let’s just say we didn’t have that much to go in the other two. They certainly wouldn’t be full, let’s put it that way, which came as a huge relief to us.
That job done, we settled down for some down time in the room. We had a beautiful sunset to admire – again… Bill is certainly ensuring we remember him this trip.
I did try to grab a shower, but after ages of waiting, the water never made it to more than tepid, which was frustrating to say the least, so I made the best of it. Ugh!
On the way out, we mentioned it to front desk, and they gave us another room, literally just above where we were, so still about the furthest you could get from the elevator. Oh well, we’ll move the luggage to the new room when we get back.
We headed off to the airport to drop off the rental car…
It couldn’t have been simpler to get there and find what we needed. We had no problems with drop off and headed into the terminal building, figuring out we’d work out where we needed to go in the morning, and also I could get a few photos while we were there.
We knew Donna (DMA) and her husband Jeff would be over at about 8:20pm, and we had about 25 minutes to kill. We ended up sitting by the arrivals gate, as there was a guy there with a bunch of flowers, so we spent our time trying to work out who he was waiting for, and also whether she’d turn up. Evil I know, but Mark said he’d seen a TV programme where a guy had turned up to meet someone off a plane that he’d met online, and she never showed up. Oh wow! She did roll up eventually, and they were all happy, so that was good.
By the time we’d seen that, and I’d deleted a few photos off my phone, as it was getting full, we headed down to arrivals, and Donna and Jeff literally arrived a moment later. Hugs exchanged, we made our way over to this place…
Donna had suggested going to an ice cream place, but apparently when she started to look into where to go, a number had closed, but this one had good ratings, so she went for it. They were certainly very welcoming the minute we arrived.
We all ended up going for cones with a single scoop of ice cream, with the exception of Donna, who got a sundae, and then needed Jeff’s help to finish it. I went for coconut…
… and Mark had Greek mint chip, after finding out what it was.
We sat and chatted for an hour and then Donna set up the tripod she’d brought with her to get a shot of the four of us. Considering this was set up on the next door table (at one point Jeff said “well if she struggles enough, someone might offer to take the shot” – sadly no-one did… ) I think she did really well.
We headed out, as the place was closing shortly, and they took us back to the hotel. It had been so lovely to finally meet them, and it was just a shame we couldn’t spend longer with them. Donna then gave us treats for the flight down in the morning, poppy seed bread and Mickey shaped cupcakes, which she’d made herself. So sweet!
We headed back to the room, loaded everything up, and made our way up to the third floor, and decamped again.
Mark checked the shower, and thankfully it worked. I tell you, if it hadn’t, that would’ve still been it for me. I couldn’t face moving again, and in fairness, he was exhausted, pushing the cart around with all our luggage on it.
The weather today was hot and sunny with temperatures in the mid 80s. The best thing today was seeing the falls. The worst thing today was only being able to have a tepid shower. Today we tried eating at the Skylon Tower And the result was it was excellent – great food and superb views. The most magical moment today was standing on the Hornblower boat, watching the water cascade around us.
Next: “are those rocket propellers on that plane?”
