A Spring Adventure: Wilderness, Flowers, and the Force (with Cam and Luke) PTR Updated 5/22 - Page 87 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Lol Oh the vacation nightmares! I had one very similar, where I was in an airport and suddenly became worried that they wouldn't let my puppy on the plane because he was in my backpack. Then started to wonder how I got thru security with him in the backpack. Then someone told me a dog could die from that. Ohhhh vacation nightmares! Haha

I have often wondered how many miles we walk at Disney... sure that all of our excessive eating is counterbalanced by all the exercise! You will have to let us know the results of your tracking!
Glad to hear you've done your last pre-trip Target run (probably!) and are accomplishing so much in the yard. It is nice to leave for vacation when everything is in order at home!
My very first trip to WDW was the week that Disney-MGM opened! It was a fun time to be there because there were lots of celebrities in the parks. I loved the old Robin Williams/ Walter Cronkite film intro for the Animation tour.
Laurie, we must have been there at the same time! This was our first trip with the kids, and we were in DHS about 5 days after it opened. I remember watching the motorcade with John Davidson as the star of the day. We watched him put his hands in the cement. I, too, loved the Robin Williams/Walter Cronkite film!!
Glad you got everything you need from your Target run. My BFF and I once brough pedometers to see how far we walked while on vacation and then lost them on the first day!! I can't wait to hear how far you walk. What a scary Disney nightmare!!
Lol that dream! Too funny! Sorry but how silly is it when we have nightmares about a rubber wrist piece? Loved the history about the dhs openings seemed to be quite crowded there today based on busses we saw!!
I know when I woke up I thought the whole nightmare was quite ridiculous.

I hate those Disney nightmares!
I'm a little jealous that you got to be there at the opening of DHS. I don't think we ever saw the Robin Williams/Walter Cronkite film intro.
I think we've all had Disney nightmares like that prior to our trips!
Maybe our nightmares are the result of extensive planning.

I thinking wearing the from the start of our day would be smart!

Mayra, I think you are right. I knew it was a current PTR. Hopefully, we'll neither one have another nightmare.
What a nightmare! Strange what the mind comes up with before our trips to Disney! Glad you found a pedometer that did not break the bank. Did you get Mine Train fastpasses, I here that you can book them now with the opening on May 28th? Good luck!
FastPass+ isn't available for the soft opening, only dates of May 28th and after. I'm still hoping for a chance at a soft opening. I won't mind standing in the queue as it will give me time to take lots of photos.
I hate those Disney dreams. Mine always start with me oversleeping for whatever event I have planned. I usually have one a trip so I'm happy once I get it out of the way.
I used to have oversleeping nightmares quite often when I was working.

I plan on including our mileage at the end of each day's post. I do love having everything in order before we leave on a trip.

And now you're another that I'm a little jealous of for being at DHS opening. That had to be so exciting.

We had a cheap Mickey pedometer that came in Stefanie's cereal one year that I clipped on my waistband the first day and I'm pretty sure I lost it in the Hall of Presidents midway through the day.
On this day in 2011, Thor premiered at Disney's El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. Stars Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky arrived at the red carpet in a personal fleet of Acura S.H.I.E.L.D. vehicles inspired by the film. Also in attendance was Walt Disney Company President and CEO Robert Iger.
And one more Disney fact, on this day in 2014, at an early morning dedication ceremony at Magic Kingdom Park, Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs announced that the "crowning jewel" of New Fantasyland, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, will officially open on May 28. I think the stampede to get FP+ for this one beginning with May 28 plus the chance for free dining caused some techno issues for Disney’s website today as well.
Luke and I spend part of the day cleaning house, but we also managed a 2-mile walk. After dinner tonight, we went to Sam’s Club to pick up AAA batteries. As Luke said, we go a long time between needing replacements and then just today, we needed 7 for the thermostat and a remote. Next to our Sam’s Club is Home Depot, and they are currently having a sale on the Scott’s Earthgro mulch that we use each year. While there we even ran into a former student who invited me to his 25th class reunion late this summer. What amazed me was that he still recognized me without my wonderful 80s big hair. We also picked up a flat of coreopsis to fill in some of the bare spots in our flower bed under the dining room window. Hopefully, the weather is as sunny and warm as predicted tomorrow and we can get more yard work done.
