Star Wars Weekends: Episode IV - New Hope(s) May/June 2012 - Page 87 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Darn rain! That really stinks the parade was cancelled. Looks like you guys had a yummy lunch at Sci Fi. We have lunch there every trip and next time I am going to try the Spinach and Artichoke dip.

I'm all caught up again. That stinks that the parade was cancelled. But it looks like you guys had lots of fun anyway. Can't wait to read more.
We still managed to have some fun.

I'll have to look at the schedule and let you know what it us.

Finally all caught up. Between finding the time to type my TR up, actually getting work done at the office, and trying to read everyone else's reports, I somehow fell way behind. Anyway, sorry about the parade being cancelled. That really stinks, but at least they got to keep the autographed pictures...score! And the issues with your insulin pump really stinks too. Both my SIL's mother and sister have diabetes and they're on pumps. I know by watching them what a pain the pumps can be, but at the same time such a blessing. At least you were able to get a nap in there at the end.

I'm in the same boat! And now I've started the PTR too - I'm crazy!
Yes the pump can be a pain, but overall has helped so much too.
Soooo far behind!! But I'm catching up. 6 pages to go (Then I have to tackle Melissa's report!!)
First of all, loved Skype-ing with you all too!! Definitely going to be a habit
Yes! I've sat in the last row on KS and bounced and laughed hysterically through the entire ride! You had some amazing giraffe interaction and they are my absolute fave!
Love the balloon picture with you all in the 'back' of the ToL.
I really want to try to see the Nemo show this trip, we never have.
And I really like the scarf you bought for yoursel. I do love a scarf

Okay, all caught up
Boooo that the parade got cancelled because of rain. But at least Disney gave a consolation prize
I didn't realize that the droids you build fron the droid factory are so little. Don't know why I thought they'd be bigger. But, the boys are still looking forward to making their own this trip.
We haven't been to H&V since 2008, but we enjoyed it then.
Cool that you got the cowboy scene on GMR. I can't even remember the last time I had that scene.
We have Sci-Fi booked for this November. It's our, maybe-we'll-keep-it-maybe-we-won't ADR. But, after looking at your pics and hearing others talk about it, I'm leaning toward keep it
I love your day at DHS! The loot is awesome, the food was great, and even the promise of being in the parade - way cool
And it's not over yet!

We need to set a date for another Skype (or Google+) night.
See the Nemo show! it! It's almost becoming a must on our trips to AK.

Mike is excited to make another so he can get Mickey ears or an Indiana Jones hat this time.
And I hope you keep Sci-Fi - you should at least TRY it.
While Lukas & I were back at AKL taking our naps, Mike & Dylan were having fun soaking up the SW fun! They rode Star Tours and then it was time for Mike’s reservation to get Carbonized at 4:30pm. I did leave the camera with Mike, but he didn’t think to take pictures of the inside where they do this. He said it was just like what you see in the movie though, so that’s pretty cool. They take multiple photos of your face from all sorts of angles and you make multiple facial expressions to and then you pick from 4 different ones at the end. Mike said he let Dylan pick what face to use. Along with the figure Mike would be getting in a few weeks (they said 3-4, but I think it took more like 6-7 as we just got it last week) he also got a rubber bracelet that lit up which all the boys ended up playing with at some point throughout the rest of the trip. I forgot to take pictures of it, so I’ll have to do that later, but here is Mike in carbonite:

I like that the date is stamped on it.
After the Carbonize Me experience it was time for the boys to meet Jake Lloyd at 5:05pm. The autograph location was in the same place we were told that the parade had been cancelled, so at least they left on a happy note from here. Mike & Dylan got to meet him at the same time so that was nice. I think Dylan asked him why he wasn’t “the kid” anymore. See, Dylan refers to the young Anakin in the movie as “the kid” and is one of his favorite SW characters currently. Mike said he was really nice too, so that’s always good to hear.
Here you can see what he looked like in the movie. That's him on the poster in the background on the right.
After meeting Jake Lloyd they were off to see what other characters they could find. And they found some! I know they tried to trade with the Jawas, but just didn’t get to it. Maybe next time.
What fun Dylan and Mike had! I can't really believe how big Dylan's getting-- that he's even able to do and understand all that he's doing with his dad. Great memories for Mike. The "Carbonize Me" thingy is very cool. Who took all the photos of Dylan and Mike with Jake Lloyd? Are they photopass?
