Living the dream and remembering the Bagman COMPLETED IN THIS FORUM - Page 86 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I have been reading and reading but finally caught up.
Yay!

With the French thing way back when....I was like you and thought it was pretty much bilingual in that area. I found it weird that as soon as you crossed the province border everything went strictly French.
The event we went to (tractor pulling) was almost all US citizens and it seemed weird that we were invited ( and had to go to keep your ranking status) to a place where English was not spoken so much.
I am sure I just didn't get the best of areas to experience.
It doesn't sound as if you did. I'm sure if you went back, you'd have a much better time.

There is so much more to comment on and I am just going to pick more recent ones. The whole trip is amazing though.
It really was!

Chihuly! Isn't it amazing. I had seen the pictures when you were posting them on facebook back then too and I loved it. It is VERY similar to the one in Seattle from the looks of your pictures, only in a different color scheme.
These are from Seattle.
Those are very similar. I knew you'd been to see a Chihuly exhibition before and it was the photos that made me want to do this. I must admit that was one of the reasons I wanted to go and see this while we were there, so thanks for giving me the idea!

Niagra Falls! So beautiful!
Oh my goodness, it is!

I have been twice but the last time was when I was pregnant for Claire and she just turned 12. It is so beautiful there. I agree with others, if you have a chance to go back you must see them at night and especially when they have the fireworks over them. I really think those are some of the best I have ever seen.
Hmmm.... I think we will need to try and factor that in somewhere in a future trip....

We have done the Journey under the Falls both times so I was really interested in your boat ride experience. If/when we go back that is on my list to do.
There is so much to comment about. Your adventure has been magnificent. I love all of the pictures (OK, more of the countryside, the castle, the Chihuly exhibit and the falls). You guys have packed so many wonderful memories into such a short period of time. Can't wait to read and see the rest.

We did - as I go back through this trip and relive everything, I remember how many great things we did.

There's still a lot to come - almost two week's worth in real time from the trip. We're only up to about day nine! I figure this will be going until well into the spring and maybe even the summer at this rate...
It's another one of those things you could just stare at for hours. Fascinating and beautiful - as are your photos! That park is very peaceful indeed. Nice spot! And still such perfect weather.
Happy Christmas!

Your pictures from the boat tour were amazing!! I can only being to imagine how wet you get. That was so cool that you saw a rainbow on the way back. You definitely were able to get some beautiful shots of the Falls!

Your boat ride sounds like a lot of fun. It must have been great to see the falls that close. All of your pictures are wonderful. I remember that park. It such a nice place to walk around and view the falls.
I miss new episodes of Dr. Who, too. It's been so long. I can't wait until tomorrow night's Christmas special.
Have a Merry Christmas
Liz

It was just amazing, so much better than I expected it to be.

I'm really looking forward to it, although traditionally I don't tend to enjoy the Christmas specials as much as the seasons. I've read some previews and I'm not expecting tonight's episode to be amazing, but it's something to keep us going until the spring and the new season....
First off, to anyone reading this, a very happy Christmas! I hope you all have a wonderful day.
As we're around and I have time, I'm still posting an update today, as we have so much more of this trip to go yet....
Monday 19 September – part five: getting the view from above!
Finally we were at the Horseshoe Falls, and I had to admit defeat, as the sun was so strong, and I was concerned I was going to get burnt. We headed into the welcome centre and made our way through…
We were heading for this…
We got some neat views as we went up, and you started to get a feel for the water that feeds into the falls, but we hadn’t seen anything yet.
When we got to the top, we made our way through the town, and again I thought it was fine, not as tacky as I’d heard, although amazingly quiet. How any businesses here make any money is beyond me. Mind you, I guess it is a Monday in September now…
We were making our way here – back to the Skylon Tower:
We were an hour early for lunch, but thought we’d chance our luck. Honestly, there was nothing else we wanted to do. Unless you wanted to do all the attractions, which we didn’t, as to us, the falls are the attractions, then there’s limited things to keep you going. Amazing as the falls are, there are only so many times you can walk up and down the boardwalk photographing them – yes, even for us! Anyway, it was no issue to check in early, so we headed for the elevators…
… and made our way up in a lift all to ourselves!
The views on the way up gave us a taste of what was in store when we reached the dining room. A bit like at the CN Tower, we took our time deciding what to eat and drink, as we were mesmerised by the view. We were passing the falls at the time, and finally we could see the whole picture, in terms of the water that supplies the falls. I couldn’t get over how quiet this water is, considering it then turns into the amazing torrents you then see!
