Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

This weather sure does not feel like the end of April / early May weather. Yesterday while standing at the train station it felt like winter, between the rain and the wind and it was only in the 40s. Today they say high of 70, but going back down to 50 the remainder of the week. So hard to plan what to wear....even when the daytime is warm by the time I go home it is cold again.

I will be happy when Spring finally gets here and decides to stay

Yes, this was a big day in Disney history! Thanks for sharing!!!

Glad the weather is looking up for you. My town has experienced some terrible flooding... so much that school opened late this morning. But today is beautiful here in NJ... high 70s and sunny!

Tomorrow's high they say will be 73. What a contrast. That's above normal. Temps are usually in mid 60's in early May here. 70's on regular basis on average occur in mid May. Forecast for lower to mid 60's for next few days. Can't believe tomorrow is May 1st in just hours with this weather as it doesn't feel like it! I love my warm weather as it shouldn't surprise you as where I go for my vacations! With the exception of my Europe ones, every so often!
I'm having lots of fun finding out the Disney history for each day. I think so many of us would love for the weather to balance out to a more normal spring.

Sorry the weather's been interfering with your plans, but it sounds like you've got some nice weather to look forward to when you get to Florida.
I'm hoping in a few days that spring temps come to stay in Kentucky, but I'm still looking forward to warm weather in Florida.

I'm one who is sure glad Disney decided to build a second park closer to me than California.

Sorry you've had to deal with flooding. I saw some pics from the northeast and southeast where flooding had occurred. I find that as scary as tornadoes. Stay safe! for spring to come to all of us and finally hang around.

That's exactly how we felt. We had a really good week that seem to predict spring was finally here and then winter made a cool, rainy return.

Countdown to Zero: 11 Days Until Disney Time

On this day in 1989 as many of you may already be aware, The Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park at Walt Disney World opened to the public. Located south of EPCOT, it is Disney's 5th theme park in the world. Although it rained throughout the day, the park was packed. It is the largest opening day press event in Disney World history. Attractions in the park included Walt Disney Studios Animation Studios (where guests could watch story personnel, animators, artists and technicians produce motion pictures), The Great Movie Ride, SuperStar Television, and The Monster Sound Show. The Great Movie Ride, a replica of the entrance to Graumann's Chinese Theater, features a courtyard for celebrity handprints and signatures. A program called "Star Today" will allow celebrities over the years to leave their mark. The very first "Star Today" is original Mouseketeer Annette Funicello. Released on this same day at the Animation Studios is a 9-minute short titled "Back to Neverland." The special film features Walter Cronkite and Robin Williams. Among the Hollywood legends visiting the park are George Burns and Bob Hope (who help cut the filmstrip ribbon dedicating the Studios).

In trip prep, we made our last Target run today. I know, I know, that some of you are thinking we might actually have to go back. But we are hoping that since we both went through all our trip supplies a while back and listed all we’d need that we won’t have to go back. We’ve never been this organized with what we have and don’t have before a trip. Additionally, we bought two more Disney gift cards. One of the things on our list was a pedometer, a fairly cheap one. I’d like to have the Fitbit Force, but those have been recalled. So until they come out with the new version, I wanted something less expensive. Target only had FitBits, so we went to Best Buy next, which only had FitBits, seeing a pattern here. Then we drove to the next door to Wal-mart where we found MapMyWalk pedometer that will sync with an app on my iPhone. And best of all it was much, much cheaper than a FitBit. It will be interesting to see how many steps we take and miles we walk while touring at WDW.

Tomorrow is our trash pickup day, which for some crazy reason motivated us to go out at 6:30 to clean willow branches out of the yard where they fell in the last couple of day’s storms. Luke had seen an ad in the paper today for Scott’s Earthgro Mulch at $2 a bag a Home Depot. Since we’d like to get the mulch down before we head to Disney, we also took the time to rake the dead willow leaves out of the landscaping. Actually, Luke used the leaf rake and I used a hoe. Even without the mulch the landscaping around the front of the house looks better. Mulching may be a project for this weekend.

I also want to share my Disney nightmare from last night. Luke and I were Exhibition Hall at MK to use FP+ for the Mickey Meet and Greet when we noticed that the princesses only had a 20 minute wait. (I now they are no longer there, but this was a dream!) Luke felt we had time to make the princesses and still get back within our FP+ window for Mickey. I think some of our other family might have been with us as we waited in line. For some reason, as the CM took our party back, Luke and the others were lagging behind. The CM told me I needed to scan my Magic Band. At that point I squealed in a shrill, high voice, “I forgot our Magic Bands on my scrapbook table back at home in Kentucky!!!” I covered my mouth with both hands, turning to search for Luke. At the same time the logical part of my brain was asking me a series of questions: How did I get on DME? How did I get into my room at WL? How did I get into the park in the first place? The last question temporarily jarred me awake. One of the first things I did this morning was add Magic Bands to our packing list.

Next: Countdown to Zero Continues

It will be interesting to see how many steps you take and the miles you do while down in disney. What a dream I hate those kind where you start questioning yourself in the dream. But reading that is making me go add magic bands to my packing list LOL

That is a scary Disney nightmare, and kind of funny at the same time! It is always funny when it isn't happening to you! Good for you for being so productive with the lawn. The rain and storms sure is dreary. I'm ready for some warm sunshine!
