Star Wars Weekends: Episode IV - New Hope(s) May/June 2012 - Page 85 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

My oldest discovered today that we know have the Disney JR channel on our Direct TV system. Prior to this discovery, the youngest knew Oso because his show is on early and he watches it quietly while waiting for his brothers to wake up.
Sorry you have been having troubles with your insulin pump. My friend's son (he's 7) is getting his pump next month and will hopefully be used to it before school starts on the 20th.
Jealous of you having Disney Junior! At elast we have on demand so we can watch kid shows other times plus videos.
I switched to a new insertion and it's taking some getting used to as it's short than the one I was using.
Good Luck to your friend's son. I'm sure he'll be fine.

I love Dylans face painting. Do you run into the boys not wanting the paint to come off? I hope Dylan and the boys get to be in the Parade.
I thought about that when I was typing the report and at the time I didn't really think anything of it.

How funny with Dylan saying that GMR was boring. It's not really action packed, but I still like it. I always get the gangster version, but I have only been on it 3 times so....
Shouldn't we just expect rain if you're at DHS at this point.
Can't wait to hear about the parade!
Coming up!

I'm so happy that DirecTV has Disney Jr for 24 hours. Used to be it would switch programming later at night. Now at 6pm or 8pm I can still find age appropriate things for Evan to watch as some of the other channels the show are more for Tweens.
I'm jealous of you too! I need AT&T to get it! I just emailed them and posted it on their FB wall.
So we came out from The Great Movie Ride to quite a bit of rain. We hurried over to the strollers, threw the boys in and hightailed it to where we were to meet for the parade, which was by Sounds Dangerous. That place was PACKED! Apparently this was also the meeting place for those that are participating in the Padawan Mind Challenge. After more people to be in the parade showed up and lots of CMs on walkie talkies, those that were to be in the parade were told to wait around the corner at the exit to the American Idol Experience. The boys were starting to get restless and it wasn’t looking too good for us. The Padawan Mind Challenge had been cancelled by now as it just wasn’t letting up. We were then informed to head back to where we were originally supposed to meet (it’s an area between that outdoor gift shop and the Sounds Dangerous show). Once inside they broke us the bad news. The parade had been cancelled. Could’ve/would’ve/should’ve seen it coming. I mean we were at DHS and we all know what happens to us while we’re there. They did give everyone that was supposed to participate (the kids) autographed headshots and the certificate they would’ve gotten for being in the parade so that was a nice consolation prize.
I still need to fill in their names.
We waited in the room for a while trying to decide what to do next as we had some time to kill before our 1:50pm ADR at Sci-Fi with Shelley & Stephanie and we didn’t have enough time to go back to the resort. We headed over to the Animation Academy to try and dry out and re-group. The boys were getting restless from being cooped up and we let them burn a little steam off in one of the areas where they have sketches and a few benches. Dylan also decided he’d had enough of the face paint. So I broke out the baby wipes and wiped him as clean as I could. It did come off relatively easy, but the black around his eyes was the hardest as he kept looking like he had a black eye. Once clean we moved in more to where the characters were. I was expecting this place to be a zoo and while it was crowded it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Sorcerer Mickey didn’t have a bad wait so we got in line for him. This is where I wished I had something to occupy the boys, especially Lukas, while waiting in line. We did our best at keeping them from bothering us, each other, and those around us as much as possible. And then it was finally our turn! Dylan went right up and Lukas followed behind. I asked Lukas if he’d give Mickey a hug and he did – a VERY quick one and then went off to Mike. But I was so happy that he actually got close, even touched Mickey. Then we got a family shot.
After meeting Mickey we were going to see Pooh, but Lukas was happy just watching him from the side. While Lukas watched Pooh, Dylan ‘colored’ a character on the computer screens they have. Then it was a potty break for me and afterwards we decided we better head over to Sci-Fi. The rain had let up some from before, but it was still raining. We met up with Shelley & Stephanie and were seated in our car shortly after checking in. Dylan drove next to me, Mike & Lukas were behind us, and Shelley & Stephanie were in the back. This isn’t a good place to socialize, but we made due. We absolutely love Sci-Fi and it’s just not a Disney trip without a visit. Last trip I strayed from my usual burger and was disappointed, but I still ordered something else than a burger. After reading Jill talk about the Space Invaders margarita and the spinach and artichoke appetizer I decided to try them. This time I was not disappointed! Both were VERY tasty! Maybe I should see what else Jill has eaten and order like her again. Mike had the Reuben and a Blue Moon (I think) and the boys shared the kid’s cheeseburger. They also each had the ‘Glowing Character Punch’ (lemonade in a souvenir cup with light-up clip – this year was Buzz) which we always do here too. At some point Dylan made his way to the backseat with Shelley & Stephanie and had some sort of interesting conversation with Stephanie that I have no idea what it entailed. I’m hoping Shelley will inform us soon.
Apparently Lukas had made his way to the back too.
During lunch I knew that my pump was not working the way it should and knew I was leaking insulin. So after lunch Mike & Dylan stayed to enjoy more SWW activities while Lukas & I went back to AKL for a rest. It was still raining when we left but not hard – just a sprinkle. A lady was very nice and helped me get the stroller on the bus while I got Lukas. Thank you so much! Once back in the room I put Lukas down (who I’m pretty sure was already asleep) and then I changed my pump site and gave me a considerable amount of insulin then took a nap myself.
The breakfast sounded great! I really hate that the parade got cancelled, that was really nice of them to still give the boys their gifts! We like Sci-fi too, have not eattin there everytime, so I think next year we will add it!

Bummer about the parade getting cancelled!
Lunch at Sci Fi sounded yummy though, love that spinach and artichoke dip!
It was a bummer, but I'm not sure anyone really wanted to walk in the rain either.

It was nice. I'm sure the kids before that were to do the Padawan challenge got the same thing.

Sorry about the parade! I hope the boys (including the DH) weren't too bummed about it. At least they got the little gifts. Looks like a good time was had at Sci-Fi too. I've never been there. We didn't make it to DHS last time so we couldn't check it out, but maybe someday.
So sad that the parade was cancelled! I'm glad you received the certificate and signed head shots. Were the boys awfully sad?
Sounds like you had better luck with Sci-Fi than we did. We avoided it this trip because overall (for the adults) it was our worst meal on our 2010 trip.
Sorry that your pump gave you so much trouble that day - hopefully you were able to fix it when you went back to your hotel?
My friend's son was diagnosed at 2 1/2 with type 1 and it's been a journey to get him approved for the pump. His school doesn't have a full time nurse (they share a nurse with three other districts in the county), and they actually were stating that he would need a parent present at the school three times a day to check his sugars if he wasn't on the pump.

Caught up again. Sorry your boys missed out on being in the parade, but glad they got some cool stuff anyway. Loved seeing your pics of the Hollywood & Vine breakfast - I'm not sure when I'll get to do that one! And now after reading about your meal at Sci-Fi, I want a milkshake.
