A Spring Adventure: Wilderness, Flowers, and the Force (with Cam and Luke) PTR Updated 5/22 - Page 84 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Glad you were hit with anything severe. Hopefully this isn't a sign of what the spring/summer is going to be like.
That is my hope, too.

Glad Luke is feeling better and that you did not get any extreme weather. Just so scary, I was talking to my dad the other day about the storms that the midwest and south were getting. I think tornados scare me the most as you really just have no warning, with snow storms or hurricanes, you might not know how bad it is going to be but you can be prepared but tornados...just so devestating.
I am scared of tornadoes for just the reasons you've mention. Too little time to prepare.

I love royal weddings, too! DH thought I was crazy for watching William and Kate's wedding in the wee hours... but I thoroughly enjoyed it! How neat that WDW celebrated the occasion in royal fashion. I'm sure many guests enjoyed the fanfare!
So glad you have avoided the dangerous weather. We have drenching rain in NJ today, but no threat of tornadoes. Stay safe!

Luke teases me, but then he watches right along with me.
Glad the weather cleared up and that Luke is feeling better!
I was one of those crazy people who got up at 4am, grabbed a cup of tea and watched the royal wedding! That is awesome that WDW held a celebration too!

How interesting that you should post about William and Kate's wedding, as William, Kate and Harry are scheduled to arrive in Memphis sometime tomorrow to attend a friend's wedding here. The granddaughter of Kemmons Wilson (founder of Holiday Inns) is marrying a pub owner from London who is great friends with the princes. Reportedly William is to be a groomsman in the wedding.

It's nice to see that I'm not the only one who got up early for the royal weddings.

That is very neat!

This day in 1969 was hugely significant for Disney and for quite a few of the rest of us. During a press conference at the Ramada Inn on Highway 50 in Ocoee, Florida (a little suburb on the outskirts of Orlando where my DSis and DBiL have worked in the public school system), Donn B. Tatum (president of Walt Disney World Co.) detailed the more than 3 years of planning for a "Destination Vacation". It had been two years since special legislation was passed to allow Disney to build its Florida project, and now the Disney Company had rented out the entire Ramada Inn for Walt Disney World's official first press event. A large circus tent outside the hotel was filled with models and artist renderings of Walt Disney World for this three-day gala. Among the Disney officials in attendance was Walt's brother Roy O. Disney and Disney publicist Charlie Ridgway. A 16-mm 17-minute film titled Walt Disney World - Phase 1 was screened at the Parkwood Cinema Theater. It showed the master plan and artists' depictions for a theme park (which would open in 1971).
On this same day, RCA released a press kit to the media explaining their role in the creation of Disney World. RCA was set to create and produce the computer and communications infrastructure for the entire Disney World project. The system, named WEDCOMM--Walter E. Disney Communications Oriented Monitoring and Management System, will establish the first 21st Century information-communications system as a total service for guests, residents and management. The system will link computers, telephones, automatic monitoring and control devices, mobile communications and television in a multi-faceted network capable of expansion as growth demands. (The ambitious plan would vanish quickly, at least from public view, when RCA sold its computer division to Sperry Univac in 1970.)
This crazy spring weather has hampered one of mine and Luke’s health goals, walking at least 2 miles a day. Monday and yesterday were rainy, so no walks. Today the high was more like late March or early April – brisk with a strong wind. Luke checked his weather app, and discovered the warmest temperature of 60 degrees would be between 1:00 and 2:00, so we headed out at 1:25 with me wearing a hoodie. My left ear has been a little achy, so I want to avoid an ear infection. Highs are not expected to be higher than 60s the next two days, but the predictions call for warmer more normal temperatures with no rain next week. Hopefully, that will mean walking each day. We’ve also begun checking the Orlando weather forecasts for May 12 – 20. Weather is looking cooler than the first two weeks of June. In other trip prep, I’ve been working on outfits in hopes of streamlining my packing. We will not have access to a washer and dryer in our room since we will be in a studio. So I’m not planning on doing laundry as I just don’t want to spend the time away from much more fun stuff.
Hope you don't end up with an ear infection and hope Luke's allergies abate. It's SO hot in California and SO cold in other spots. Today we didn't get out of the low 40's, and with wind and rain, that felt really raw. I don't like the heat, but another 20 or 30 degrees would be nice!

I told Luke that I hate to complain after watching the news with flooding in so many areas of the southeast and Santa Anna winds, fire, and drought in California. I wish I could find a place that consistently stays at 70 - 75 degrees and then I'd move there.

Can't deal with this weather as it's so crazy now! So much rain and wind today in CT! The high today was about 45. That's late February or March temps and not April 30. Tomorrow's high they say will be 73. What a contrast. That's above normal. Temps are usually in mid 60's in early May here. 70's on regular basis on average occur in mid May. Forecast for lower to mid 60's for next few days. Can't believe tomorrow is May 1st in just hours with this weather as it doesn't feel like it! I love my warm weather as it shouldn't surprise you as where I go for my vacations! With the exception of my Europe ones, every so often!
