A 40th celebration to end the world! THREAD 1 COMPLETED 2/16 - Page 84 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Lovely pictures of new fantasyland. I am so going to have to ditch my too cool for school teenagers as I really really want to ride the little mermaid ride.
Oh just drag them on with you...

Congrats on planning the next trip. Hopefully Aulani will work out for you this time. Did you get an aternative to the Virgin late arrival or did you just have to go with it?
We went a day earlier - it's still not a great arrival time for the early flight, 5:05pm (compared to our usual of 3:40pm), but it was better than the next day, where I think the earliest flight arrived at 6:00pm! Ironically, if we booked for the following weekend or week after, the flights went back to their normal times, so it must just be that week. All very odd....
Great pics from Ariel's ride What happened to Mark's Ninja skills at getting behind the scenes stuff at Seven Dwarves Mine today? Was he on a Search and Destroy mission targeting Piglet??

I wonder if it has something to do with flying the day the clocks change, that messed up my Brisbane flights last year.
Congrats on the new trip!!! You seem to have a very busy 2013 coming up, but in a good way.
We do, but it's an odd year. I don't have much vacation this year, as I started a new job last year and your holiday year runs from your birthday month, so mine started on 1 December and who took most of December off? That didn't leave me with much, so I ended up booking lots of short breaks over holiday weekends, so we have Berlin, Potsdam and Dresden over Easter, Sorrento for Pompeii over the early May Bank Holiday weekend and Northern Ireland over the late August bank holiday.
I still have a bit of holiday, so we've got a week in September for a return road trip to Switzerland and then we've got the Florida/Hawaii trip for a couple of weeks in the fall, so yes it's going to (hopefully!) be a great year!

Great pics, and the one of Mark kicking Piglet made me laugh out loud.
Great morning at MK! It looks like you'll be back in the fall! Yea! Can't wait to see you!
We will - back on 30 October for a few days, then hopefully off to Hawaii for a week (if we can get into Aulani and get the flights) and then have a couple of days back in Orlando before we fly home - we'll definitely catch up!
I was so proud of myself when you first started this TR as I was keeping up, sadly I got lost and fell far behind. It always seemed that when I got to read a few posts something always inturuppted me before I could post a comment so I kept a list...and tonight I sat down to read the 40 pages or so I was behind and I am happy to say I am all caught up
Just a few little notes...I loved the picture of you with the Eyeore pillow pet, Jasmine is a Eyeore fan and has the pillow pet and a nice size plush...well her boyfriend always jokes that he is jealous of Eyeore because Jasmine snuggles up with them so everytime he is here he hides them on her...poor girl goes searching at bedtime for them as she sleeps with them everynight. I hope by the end of the trip you finally made a purchase
How great that you got to spend so much time with Laurie, loved the pictures from the AK, my favorite had to be the cattle photos, they told quite a story. There she was just relaxing when her "boyfriend" just had to be annoying and keep pushing her until she got up...I could imagine the conversation as they walked side by side, her giving him a talking to for not letting her rest, and then she forgives him with a kiss. What great interaction!!! And the ornament from Laurie...what an amazing gift.
I always love that you get to meet up with so many PP friends, such wonderful meals and how great that you were able to see Dawn in the CP and what a great time you all had at Tutto Gusto (definitely want to stop there).
I must mention how you had the tempura at Teppan Edo...the japanese place by us makes tempura with butternut squash, don't laugh as it is my favorite. Not sure why but I always ordered extra butternut squash...sadly no more japanese food for me as the last two times I had a strange allergic reaction so until they figure out what it is I have been trying to stay away from it.
What a great savings with the DxDDP, I definitely think it can be worthwhile (and a good savings) when used for the right meals.
Okay, okay. So life has been very busy around here and I haven't had any time to get on the boards until tonight. I read through your TR (didn't read the comments though this time around...will go back and read more throughly! )
So here are my thoughts, in order:
I couldn't see that gardener in your picture at BC for a long time!! I couldn't figure out where he was...but then I saw it!
I love the Mickey plush display photo you took at Emporium. Very
Sounds like you had a great lunch at CP, especially with Eeyore!
I am right there with you about opening all of the new Fantasyland at once. You don't really get the whole feeling of the new Fantasyland with all the construction crews around.
What an idiot in the fountain!! Was he drunk? A little too happy a lunch at BOG?
Speaking of BOG, what a line!
Your BLT villa is amazing. Very chic!
We always have a long wait for CG, so well done getting in early. I also love scallops, so I appreciate the recommendation for your entree. It looks delicious. The Valrhona cake is my favorite, too. I'm guessing the mint flavor was special for the holidays?
I loved Mark's t-shirt (Ray of Sunshine) and I also really loved seeing Laurie. You all looked so happy together, I wished I could have been there with you!
Mark kills me with his Piglet...um...love?
I really loved your photos of Ariel's ride. Definitely something to check out in the fall. (By the way, I am still really mad at you for not coming at the same time as we are...)
Okay. All caught up. Hopefully I can stay that way!!
Great updates! Unless I'm going solo, I probably won't ever get to ride on Winnie and the Little Mermaid rides, so I appreciate the photos
I love that gargoyle on the bridge- he's so sad and poor Piglet! I will be waiting for your TR of Aulani - we are hoping to go there next January!

Wow, that's seriously impressive that you managed to catch up on all of that!

I get that from Mark all the time! Do you know what? I didn't get any new Eeyores for the new collection :blushing (I know, shocking...) but we still came home with lots of new, great purchases.

I love that too - and we'd love to see you again. Any chance of a late October/November trip for you down to Disney?

We did, but how can you go wrong when Eeyore's there?

It's a shame, isn't it?

I know - but as others have said, they found it moved pretty quickly, so maybe it wasn't as bad as it looked....

I'm so sorry - I had to work around someone else at work being off and I didn't want to come too early in the fall, as I wanted it to have cooled off a bit. I saw someone's post on Facebook yesterday from a Floridian and their in-car thermometer was showing 88 degrees already!
Great updates! Unless I'm going solo, I probably won't ever get to ride on Winnie and the Little Mermaid rides, so I appreciate the photos

Tuesday 11 December – part four: this is rougher than I remember!
Laurie and I decided to go on It’s A Small World, but Mark was having none of it. Spoilsport! It was good fun, but my goodness, the departure and the return were a heck of a lot rougher than I remembered.
While we were gone, Mark had fun taking photos of the construction going on around the old Skyway station…
Apparently these are going to be restrooms, and when that’s completed, the restrooms by Peter Pan will be closed and turned into something else, although they wouldn’t tell him what.
We made our way into Liberty Square….
We headed for the Haunted Mansion, which was great. I was really impressed by how well my camera performed during this ride.
That was a nice ride on Small World, but crazy how much we were bumped around in that boat! It was wonderful to have Mark out scouting for us. He had had quite a chat with the workers and had all the info on Rapunzel's tower for us!
