Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Maureen, I’m so glad that you made it through that Illuminations cruise unscathed – it sounds like you all had a great time!
Angie, I love your photos of the resort – and everyone sitting in the lobby.

The \"Other\" Character Breakfast!
Friday morning was a beautiful Disney Day!! I woke early and put the coffee on for Tina and I. Today was a "split" day, Tina, Tara, and Lynn were taking Angie to see her favorite bear, and Terri, Sandy, and I were taking Mo to see her favorite Mouse. Tina and I had to head down to guest services to check in and out again. We split our stay between cash and DVC points, and the only downside was that whenever the ressie changed, we had to go check out and check in again. It was relatively painless, as guest services was always accomodating and never crowded, and at least we didn't have to switch rooms! So Terri, Sandy and Mo caught the earlier monorail, and I caught the second monorail over to the Poly for breakfast at OHana's.
A little back track here: Sandy and I had breakfast with Dale two years ago, at Cape May Cafe. While getting a postcard signed, Dale inadvertantly placed the postcard, ink side down, in some water on the table, smudging the address and signature (Sandy, correct me if my details are wrong, I'm old and don't remember much any more ) When Sandy pointed out to him what he had done, He got all sorts of embarrassed and contrite and declared himself a "loser" by making an L out of his fingers and placing them on his head (You know, the universal Loser sign!) It was one of the highlights of that breakfast, caught by us on videotape, and remembered in many an email and phone call by Sandy and I! So we wanted to make sure that Dale got a chance to redeem his loser status with us.
So off to Ohana's we went. After a short wait, we were in!! I have never been here (Actually, I lie. I was here in 1992 but it has changed a bit since then!) and I was really looking forward to it. They brought us coffee and juice, and Sandy explained to the server CM that she was vegetarian. Not only did they accomodate her, Chef Peter came to our table to discuss options and what he was going to do for her meal. Little did we know...
Soon the characters started to come around. Then...Mo spotted her favorite Mouse! I was video taping and don't think I caught the still photos that Terri and Sandy have, but she began to squeal! She was so happy to see Mickey! He came over to our table and posed for some wonderful pictures! (I am posting from work so you will have to wait till I get home for the pictures, unless someone else can tag team them here! I think Terri has some of them posted over in Tara's report, too.) Goofy was his personable self, despite leaning on my head and covering my face with his hand! Chip and Dale joined in, and Dale couldn't believe he was ever a loser! I think he was trying to deny that he ever worked at Cape May, but sorry, Dale, we have the pictures to prove it! Then, in the midst of all this, Sandy's breakfast arrived. Now, our breakfast was very good, served family style in a skillet in the middle of the table. But Sandy, well, Sandy got SPECIAL treatment from Chef Peter! Not only did she have Mickey waffles, potatoes and other goodies, she had grilled pineapple done up like Hidden Mickeys! It was the most awesome presentation ever!! We all tried her pineapple (She offered, don't get the idea that we just stabbed at the fruit on her plate! lol)and it was awesome. We finished up just in time for one more character interaction, with Mickey. he came to our table, and after explaining the situation with Dale, Mickey looked at all of us, and...made the Univeral Loser sign on his head! We about lost it then. I will definitely post that picture when I get home.
After breakfast, it was off to the MK. We met up with Lynn and Angie, Terri was meeting up with Tara and Tina to head to (I think) MGM to meet up with Robin and Jill. (confused yet? )
We did a few rides, including BTMRR, and basically just had a great time! At about 11:30, I left the group at Splash Mountain. My aunt and uncle were in Florida at the same time, and I was meeting with them for ice cream.
At about 12, I arrived at the Main Street Bakery, our designated meeting point. There was my uncle, but where was my aunt? OMG! That's her! She had gastric bypass surgery in January and has lost 75 pounds so far! She looked WONDERFUL! Now, this is my Dad's youngest brother, and absolutley my favorite aunt and uncle! They were at Orange Lake Resort from 5/1-5/14, this was there last day at WDW, so it was perfectly timed that I could meet up with them. We went to the Plaza for ice cream, and sat and talked for about an hour. It was so nice to see them! They brought me pictures from our last year's family reunion (oh no, another scrapbook project! ) as well as a CD from the same party. Cool! I got some pictures of them at the Castle, and then it was time to go. Hugs all around,a nd then I headed tot he Main St Emporium to look around. I bought some scrapbooking stickers and a cool mug for my Dad. The CM was so sweet, he let me put the CD and pictures in the bag to be shipped back to the GF!
I was actually getting ready to go back to the GF when I noticed the horse drawn trolley waiting there with, of all things, the Barbershop Quartet on the trolley! Oh, I have to do this!! I climb on, ride down Main Street all the while being serenaded with "Cruella DeVille" and "Georgia on my Mind" (a family on the trolley was from Georgia.) The family in front of me was from Italy, and their little boy (about 5) insisted he swam all the way from Italy to WDW. He must have been tired! I got off at the Castle, took some pictures of the horse, and was in line getting my popcorn when I spied Terri. I called her and she found me. I told her I was heading back because I needed a nap. We took the boat back to GF (which was nice) and headed back to our rooms. I thought I would just rest for a little while, but I guess the day caught up with me. I laid down on the big comfy bed and...POOF! I was out for almost 2 hours! That seemed to be the trend, because everyone else had come back and napped, too!
It was good, because we needed to rest for our upcoming dinner adventures!
