A Magical 10 Night Trip, The 10th Month and The Orlando Trifecta- PTR - UPDATED 10/2 - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I think your ADR's sound terrific!! I do think that it is cutting it tight for your lunch at Morocco but I plan on doing the same type of thing on one of my days as well, so I am no one to judge!
I'm happy with my ADRs with only disappointment being no V&A's but otherwise good! It is cutting it a bit close so I'll have to figure out my schedule and make sure I get to Spice Road Table on time. I may have to drop my 3rd FP+ but we'll see. Making it back to the Dolphin for my shuttle pickup should be fine as it will be around 2:30 pm.

I'm quite happy with everything and I think having a late dinner on one of the F&W Festival days will allow me to enjoy it. I probably won't do as much sampling as last year as I went all out on my first experience there and wanted to sample as much as I could. Enjoyed it so much!

PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
I am suffering absolute paroxysms that you couldn't get either QVR or the MDR at V&A's. That has to have been a huge disappointment, as much as I know you enjoy dining there.
I wonder if not having the plus-10 advantage worked against you. We've found a couple times that the only date we could get V&A's was near the end of our stay. So, the plus-10ers might have snapped them up before you even had a chance.
Whatever the reason, that is just dreadful! Yes, Cali Grill is a nice restaurant, but absolutely nothing on property is an adequate substitute, I'm sure you'll agree.

I'm quite happy with them! We will see if I do a Tara!

I'm not happy about that as I've never had a hard time getting it. I arrive the day before Columbus Day and probably has something to do with it. Some of my ADRs were difficult to secure as well. My Universal resort, Royal Pacific seems to be sold out now for my dates with the holiday and HHN, which is quite popular. Last year I arrived on the 15th being a Saturday and after the holiday and may explain it. I hope I don;t regret this. I think you may have been here in WDW during this week before?

I was not happy about this and as much as I love the Cali, nothing compares to V&A's and I've also been to some of the top rated eateries in NYC. One of them Daniel (Daniel Boulud) has an amazing restaurant and always in the top 5 in NYC and finished #1 a few times. I feel V&A's is DEFINITELY better! I've been going to V&A's since my second WDW trip in 2003 and that is 11 times! Most being the main dining room as QVR has only been available since about 2010 or maybe 2009. Most are QVR since.
I think you are right about the plus 10 and may have had a disadvantage with that as staying t the Dolphin. But I got QVR with no problem last year at the B Resort in DS. That was on day 4 last year. I did a lot of searching just checking what is available and has a BOG thing going with it. Through the end of the year, almost ADRs are gone for V&A's. Gotten quite popular I guess and even at the high price. Once thing to explain this is as they no longer have the second seating in the Main Dining room at 9 pm, which means fewer ADRs. Not sure when they got rid of that as perhaps not popular enough (at the time) but now making it nearly impossible for the earlier seating.
I keep checking and hoping for an ADR as a month away now! Do you think I should call the restaurant direct and mention how many times I've dined there and perhaps they can squeeze me in? I'm getting desperate but my trip will be missing something without this experience!
Also wondering, if they're keeping a certain amount of ADRs to be made by phone considering the type of restaurant they are known as and I think many make these ADRs by phone. I think it's for the personal service. I've made most of mine by phone and perhaps just the last two years online, while everything else on the site.
Sorry for for the ongoing essay on this but you understand my point!

I truly don't know, Dave, if calling and playing your ELEVEN times card would work. Surely can't hurt anything to try. Too bad you haven't an illustrious surname like Vanderbilt or Astor, huh?
You might be right that their canceling the 9:00 seating has made the MDR all but impossible to get. Or perhaps FWF is drawing more people who want to dine at the better WDW restaurants.
I'd really like to try Keller's Per Se sometime, but I suspect we'll have to dwell upon our memories of the River Cafe. Drew's parents took us there once after his mom won a $100 gift card for it in a raffle. Enjoyable but also no V&A's.

I will try and see what I can do. I know what you mean with the names but then again Astor went down with the Titanic! The F&W Festival may have something to do with it, but doing the one day at a time with ADRs there were other V&A's ressies available including QVR on other days as well. Just weird as looks so booked for the year and never seen this with this restaurant! I know Per Se in NYC as highly rated but seems way over priced, even though quite good. I think it's been around for about 10 years or so now. In the Time Warner Center I think in midtown? I'll look.

Per Se may well be overpriced these days for what it serves. It isn't the rowdy new kid on the block anymore for certain.
But, I'd still like to try it sometime because Keller revolutionized the "tasting menu" concept which then practically everybody else leapt upon.
Despite Chef Host Aimee's touting the Chef's Table's "bacon and eggs" by a young chef when we ate there, I thought it rather derivative of Keller's oysters and pearls, the much less prosaic original of quirky twists on commonplace dishes. If a diner knew nothing of Keller's work, they might have been impressed. It was visually appealing and tasted fine but had a discordant element or two. Keller's O&P is simply remarkable as a concept as well as a stunning combination of flavors, or so I've read.
But, not to derail the PTR train further as I'm sure you and I could rhapsodize endlessly about places where we'd love to eat someday.
