Fall, Firsts, Food And The Final Frontier-WDW PTR - UPDATED 10/9 - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

So glad that you were able to pretty much get all the ADRS that you wanted although not at exactly the times that you originally wanted. We have Morimotos on the 20th as well but it is a lunch reservation. Some day I would love to do Victoria and Alberts but not sure I can convince my DH on the price point!

I saw you post on Cam's TR that you usually do the F&W Fest for 5 or 6 days! I'd love to do it, but as it will be 2 1/2 years, since my last WDW trip, there is so much more I want to do in the parks and especially with so many new eateries and the complete reimagination of Disney Springs! Perhaps, on my next WDW trip I'll spend more time at the F&W Fest. I'll be here for 7 nights and plan two days here, so I think I'll be able to experience it well!
I did get my adr times but it just meant going through Open Table for the Boathouse and direct for Morimoto's. I believe at the time I made my adr for Morimoto's that they had just opened up recently for adrs on the WDW site, so it probably wasn't quite worked out yet. My Disney Rewards card makes V&A's possible as the points add up and needed for a place like this!

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
We normally hit the other parks several days but always end up eating our dinners at the Festival. So in reality we don't spend all day there for 5 or 6 days. Also we go for 10 days so that makes a big difference also. But we don't usually eat any other sit down meals other than a must do of Sanaa and this time we will be trying Morimotos. We are small eaters so the small plates work well with our eating habits. We also usually do a couple of the culinary demos which are alot of fun. My DH doesn't drink so I always get his glass of wine

Your extra days makes a difference. As there are so many new experiences in WDW to take part in, I want to take advantage of them on this trip. I think my next trip, I may spend more time at the F&W fest and possibly next year. I also love my sit down meals and once again, so many new ones now! Good for you on the extra wine!

There are so many new ones to chose from and quite difficult in the decision making process and what to leave out! But then again, the others will be for my return!

What an awesome ADR list! You already know we'll be visiting several of these before you. Can't wait to hear your review of each one.
Glad you like my choices! I'm well aware of this as keeping up with your PTR!

This Is a Much Better Deal Than I Was Expecting!!!
Wednesday, May 4th I am on vacation this week, so this is a good week to do a lot of my trip planning. Better yet as it’s shaping up to rain pretty much the entire week!
I checked on the Disney site today and have a look at the park schedules. It seems I’ve picked the right parks for my days as far as the estimated park levels go. I am happy with that.
I checked on the various Disney ticket wholesaler sites and had another look around. Some of them were a bit cheaper than Disney, but not a lot except for one. Parksavers had a 7 day park hopper ticket for the price they usually charge for a four day pass. That’s in comparison to their rates and not Disney. I was definitely interested now! I went for it and got my tickets for $389 including tax and no shipping charges as I received my voucher through email. It would have cost me $467 on the WDW site! Quite a savings at $78! This was a much better deal than I was expecting!!! Within minutes I had my voucher, which I will exchange in the parks for an actual ticket or on a Magic Band.
In the Park Savers email they stated that I will be receiving another email in a few days so I can link this voucher with My Disney Experience account as well as Fastpass+ information.
Next, I called Mears transportation and inquired about whether they have transportation from various Disney area resorts to the Kennedy Space Center. I wanted to be clear on the transportation options, before buying my tickets online. They offer it Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Unfortunately, the plan is Thursday for me, so this won’t work.
I checked online with various websites and found a bus line that offers roundtrip transportation to the Kennedy Space Center from various pick up points in the Walt Disney World area. Gray Line offers this, so I went with them. My pickup would be at the Swan resort at 8:10 am for $59. I would just have to get transportation from Disney Springs to the Swan.
I thought about it for a while and gave Gray Line a call and asked if there was a pickup point closer to the B Resort in Disney Springs. They said there was at the Crossroads Plaza at Goodings Supermarket, which was a five minute walk or so from my hotel. The agent changed my reservation to this and I was all set! My pickup was now at 8:30 am and I’d be back at my hotel by 7 pm.
I searched around the Kennedy Space Center site to purchase my admission ticket as well as take a look at some special add on tickets they offer as well. I first purchased my visitor center ticket for Thursday, October 20th. This includes everything in the visitor complex including the Space Shuttle Atlantis, various exhibits, IMAX films and a bus tour to the Apollo/Saturn V Center. I am looking quite forward to the Atlantis exhibit, judging by Cheryl’s trip report from last year.
One of the optional tours, Up Close Explore Tour looks quite interesting. It begins about an hour after my arrival and lasts two hours. I’ll be here until 5:30 pm, so this will give me time for this and the various exhibits in the visitor complex. This one features a bus tour with views of the various launch pads, exterior of the vehicle assembly building and the shuttle landing facility. We will make stops at these as well as the NASA Causeway for views of the various launch sites at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Sounds good to me and I purchased a ticket for this as well. My cost for the two tickets is about $79.
After my tour is done, I will probably have lunch at our last stop, where options are available and then return to visitor center or have it there. I will still have more than four hours left after this tour to explore the visitor complex.
I've done a lot planning today and I still had time for more. I visited the Mears transportation site and see what offerings they have from Orlando Airport to my Disney Springs hotel as I won’t be using Disney’s Magical Express. They have the standard bus/shuttle van transportation for $23 each way, but I was thinking of splurging a bit at least to my hotel. A luxury sedan to the Hilton Lake Buena Vista is $79, which isn’t too bad. At home, if I were to take a luxury sedan to one of the New York City airports it would be nearly $200 with the distance about the same! I made the reservation.
On the return I called Mears about this as I couldn’t make a bus pickup from my hotel to Orlando Airport. The agent told me to call the day before, give them my hotel and flight information and make the reservation. I would pay the driver at pick up, which is $23. Sounds easy enough. I want to go in style to my hotel, so a bus/shuttle van to the airport is fine.
NEXT: Where Am I Staying Now?

I had never heard of Park Savers before.... sounds like you got a great deal; I will have to make note of them....
As for transportation.... Have you considered a rental car? I think you can get an economy rental car for under $20 per day.... That would be cheaper than some of the other options you are looking at and would certainly give you a lot of flexibility....

Parksavers was recommended on one of the Disney sites and glad I used them!
I will be in Disney for eight days and there is bus transportation to the parks from Disney Springs or a short walk to SSR, if I want to use Disney transport or from DS for certain options. I may look at the rental options but I don't mind the convenience of not driving. I don't think the parking is free either at my hotels.
