As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Good news - just got our reservation for the 25th Anniversary DVC African Safari Spectacular. We are set for Tuesday 9/27!
Sully and I are set with the same date with our DGD and DGS. IF they can stay awake and pleasant that late...I think probably a nap will be in order that day!
What a horrible experience for all of you! I can only imagine the terror hearing the code called! And NOBODY said a WORD to you? Poor Chuck...strapped to a table and alone, how scary!

I feel so bad for Chuck and the experience he had to go through!

Just getting caught up. I can't believe what Chuck had to go through! And then you and the kids in the waiting room, with no word on what was happening. That is just horrible!
On a happier note, congrats on the DVC AK safari!!
That is absolutely ridiculous medical care...unfortunately being that my mom worked in the medical field for 50+ years - I've heard this way too many times. I truly feel for those who have no one to speak for them. I hope you find someone to discuss this with.
So glad though that chuck was able to have the procedure down successfully despite the other issues. What about seeing a dietician or cardiac rehab for help with a diet/exercise program for Chuck.

First - I am so glad that the procedure went well and that Chuck is feeling better!
About your diet - we have changed the way we eat. Lots of salad, fresh fruits and vegetables, lots of grilled or baked fish, chicken. Very few white potatoes, very little bread. Whole grain cereal for breakfast - almond/coconut milk on cereal and in coffee. We were told that Allen could eat very lean red meat 4 times a month.
So, I have done a lot of research and when we do have red meat, I try to serve him bison. It is very lean. Not to say we haven't had lean red meat from cow - we have, but when I can I serve him bison. The biggest thing for us is watching our carbs.
It is a complete lifestyle change. But we have to do it!
We both walk every day. Allen's job is doing a lot of walking and going up and down stairs. So on the weekends he will ride his bike - usually about 15 miles a day.
You guys can do this!
As for how things went at the hospital - that is just wrong! It really needs to be reported - all of it!
Now about your trip!!! So happy for you that you can get back to planning!
Congrats on getting the DVC AK Safari! My niece and I are going on the 22nd of September!
Continue healing pixies and prayers for Chuck!
The whole experience at the hospital was atrocious and as Luvsun said needs to be reported! No justification for this and no communication and the whole thing is just atrocious in every way without any communication from the hospital staff from what was going on with your husband and his condition during this time! No excuse for this and seems no one acknowledged or would fess up with the situation....take responsibility! I can't justify this in any way and it was just a matter of communication on their part to just let you know what was going on in simple terms!
Perhaps,I'm wrong but that the way I see it from my perspective!

Oh my goodness, I can't believe they did that! What a terrifying experience.
It was!

We are debating on whether to go to a different park in the daytime or just relax. We will probably play it by ear.

Nope. Nobody said a thing. I'm still upset because this is the hospital we WORK FOR. Not that we deserve extra special attention but seriously - if this is how you treat employees, I'd hate to see how you treat others. Right?

It was difficult. And we still are feeling emotional over it. Thanks. We are happy about getting the safari!

Especially since it's the hospital we work for! I'm ready to spout off an email to everyone and their supervisor but Chuck is hesitant. I'm backing off and letting him take the lead. He was the one mistreated.

I'm ready to send off an email but Chuck is hesitating. I'm just going to let him pursue it as he sees fit. We've done Cardiac rehab February 2016.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. We are trying to stay "plant based" and avoid animal products all together. Except for me - I will have yogurt and eggs. But otherwise, almond milk, no/low carbs, cut out processed foods and junk. It's not just a "diet" but a lifestyle.

I agree that it needs to be reported. Chuck is hesitant to do so. I'm not exactly sure why but since it was his care, I have to defer to him. I will be vocal to whoever I need to about it though.
Today was our 20th Wedding Anniversary. I took it off of work since Chuck only had a half day. We ended up going to Toledo. We went to Maynards (hardware store) and got some storage containers, peanuts and dog food. Then we went over to Dave's Running World and got new shoes (less than 70 days to break them in for Disney). We also got some moisture wicking socks and I got a pair of Chaco flip flops. I LOVE Chacos! After that, we went out to dinner at Tony Packo's for our traditional hot dogs. (Every year we have hot dogs and smores) - I have the makings for smores here at home.
This is the week that we do break our "diet" because we have our anniversary and Chuck's b'day is on Saturday.
This was a fun day. Really it was our first outing that wasn't to a hospital for a doctors appointment or rehab since December! Chuck was a bit tired at the end but we just went on how he felt and didn't do too much.
I asked one of my supervisors to change my vacation days off in order to save some vacation time. I was supposed to be off from 9/15 to 10/1 with only working 1 day. Well I asked to work Sunday, Monday and Tuesday 9/18, 9/19 and 9/20 - so I wouldn't have to take Friday 9/23 and Sat 9/24 as vacation time. I really didn't want to have to do this but if I didn't, I'd only have 5 hours vacation time when I get back! I emailed her and still have to hear if it's been approved. I'll keep ya'll posted.
Otherwise, health is getting better. Slowly building up stamina. That's the thing I'm really concerned about. But as Chuck reminds me - we have 9.5 weeks. I know it's going to fly by!
Happy Anniversary!!! Wishing you many, many more! Glad to hear health wise things are on an upswing! on getting the vacation days changed. Sorry you have to do that!
