A Rustic Spooktacular Trip for Two: A Trip Report - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Those bites look painful. My son used to be allergic to bug bites. Mosquito bites would get all swollen and awful. Thankfully no other bug ever bit him or it probably would've resulted in a ER visit.

Thank you! I'm feeling much better now! Yes that market just opens up that area to hang out there more. I love it!

Oh yes that spider bite was bothersome for a few days but he is such a trooper and didn't say too much. Yes it was so nice to try something new at Disney its always nice to see the new stuff.

Hey guys!! Thanks for the pixies! I did get worse before I got better. I had a temp of 102 and I was not feeling well at all last week. The way I look at it is that I'd much rather be sick before vacation than on it! I am much improved just a bit of a cough and some drainage so nothing I can't handle with mucinex!
I have my pics uploaded for the end of this update which I plan on doing either tonight or Wednesday before we leave for our trip.
Once we are on our way I will not be able to update until I return from my trip!
Thanks for continuing to tag along, I so love sharing my trips. I'll be back later with the rest of the update from that day!
Sounds good! Where is this soon to begin trip? Perhaps, I missed your mention of the details of this!

Hey guys thanks I am so glad I feel better and just in time right? I know one of you asked what trip I'm doing, we are taking a cruise with Royal Carribbean out of San Juan PR. We are staying four days, 2 on each side in San Juan because we love it there so much! Im not sure I did say what we are doing but its not disney related so maybe I skimmed right over it We are beyond ready to go!
On with the show....Monday the end of the day after AK day!
So, as I said before, we relaxed at the hotel for an hour to allow for Eric to rest his bug bites, to redo the dressings and to relax a little before heading over to DTD.
We had an earlier dinner reservation around 545pm at Portabello's. We have never eaten here and we were so impressed with this resturant. We wore just regular clothes because we wanted to walk around DTD and hang out after dinner.
Once we arrived at DTD we quickly headed straight over to the resturant as it was close to 530pm. We took some pics along the way of course!!
It was so windy this day and when we went into the lobby the wind was blowing in stuff and balloons were blowing everywhere. It was crazy! Anyway once we checked in they said it would be about a 10 minute wait unless we wanted to set outside, My husband is not really an "outside" eater so we said we would wait.
We only waited about 5 minutes and we were seated right at the entrance of the resturant. It was a good table and the waitress was divine!
Our waitress was wonderful and I asked for the red wine sampler. It was a good pour for the price! The wines were great but my husband had a question and they sent out the wine waiter/who was from france. Eric told him we were going to france in the fall and had some questions about the wine. They talked for 15 minutes. The wine waiter was so nice and stated that its rare that people know so much or ask about the wine like Eric had done. It was a nice interaction for Eric and I"m glad they were so accomodating.
I ordered just a main dish, but they brought out bread which was delish! Then our main courses came which I had a ravioli which was just so good!!! I'm not sure what Eric had but here was the picture.
Eric said while his didn't look like it would be flavorful it was very good. We both had such good meals we definitely would return to this restaurant.
The waitress was the best, she was just perfect knowing our needs when we needed them. At the end I asked for their Chocolate Cake which was a double chocolate cake. Boy this was so worth the splurge it was so decadent and Eric had a few bites but I loved it! It had toffee in the center, so yummy!
Our dinner lasted nearly an hour or so and we were walking out around 7pm.
The price out of pocket for those wondering, I had a flight of wine, Eric had a glass of wine, we both had entrees and I had dessert and our combined meal was 90 dollars.
Once we were done we both had to visit the restroom and Eric loved this table in a wine room area...
So, once we were done we decided to walk around looking at the new places again and just wandering in and out of shops.
It was not near as crowded and we went to the boathouse and both bought shirts that we both love!!
Once done we decided to see if we could get a drink at the new Hangar bar.
To our surprise we walked right in and outside there was a table for two with no issues!!!! we both were really surprised but maybe because it was a random Monday night could be why.
We had drinks only here and we loved the atmosphere. It was really nice in there and the menu was so much fun to look at!
Once done with our drinks it was nearing 8pm. We decided to do some shopping and headed over to the World of disney shop and then all the shops in that area. We like to wander through and check out the new merchandise but somehow we got into making our own droids and did this for maybe 30 minutes LOL
I now wish I had bought one
We were ready to leave the DTD around 930pm. We decided to go catch a bus home to the resort and we walked right onto a bus and was back to the resort around 10pm.
We grabbed a few drinks and hung out in the hotel lobby which is just beautiful!
We were amazed there were people still eating at the Whispering Canyon Cafe, really??? its like 10pm there's no way!!! We hung out around the fireplace and finally around 11pm we decided it was bedtime.
We were in bed in no time with a day planned for EPCOT and F&WF day!!!
This day was just beautiful, the weather was perfect. I love how we can spend the whole day (really its like half a day) in AK and still have time to do other things. I'm really glad we took the time in the hotel to rest and we loved our dinner this night!
Up next (when I return of course) EPCOT F&WF day!!!

Glad you had a great meal at Portobello and quite funny with your husband and their sommelier! Seems like something I'd do regarding the wine as I have mine and am quite informed on it!
So cool that you enjoyed the Hangar Bar as it seems like a great place that I want to visit for the first time in October for my first ever F&W experience, which I will finally be doing.! DTD or DS will be tough with so many changes.....where do I begin? I plan on at least two nights in this area with at least two meals. Probably one dinner and perhaps, a lunch on my departure day as I plan on an early evening flight back to NYC/CT.
I'm still in the planning stages, but there are some things booked already. Won't give it away as there will be a TR on this. I first want to finish my cruise TR! There's still 7 1/2 months until I arrive, so plenty of time on October 15!

Have a fun time on your cruise!!! This day in WDW sounded just lovely Glad you enjoyed your dinner at Portobello so much. The atmosphere looked relaxing and your dinner looked like something I would have ordered. How nice that you were able to get a table for two at The Hanger Bar too! The Wilderness Lodge lobby is like no other at Disney for enjoying an evening by the fire.
Luke and I tried Portobello last May for the first time, and it is now a new favorite. I also had the ravioli, which was so delicious. This restaurant really does seem to be a great value for the dishes and serving sizes. In fact, you've made me think we need to return here in October. I love your relaxed approach to touring Disney Springs.
